We all know the importance of feeding our bunnies correctly and allowing them the space and time to get proper exercise.
This thread is for hoomans!
What are your short-term and long-term fitness and healthy lifestyle goals? What are you doing to achieve them?
I currently weigh approx. 130 lbs., and am in general pretty happy with my weight considering I naturally don’t carry a lot of fat on my body. I occasionally edge up a few pounds if we have sweets in the house….oops. My goal in this area is to maintain my weight as I am pretty happy with it currently-and cut back on the sweets!
Another goal I have been trying but failing to complete is making sure to drink plenty of water. Seems simple, but I often forget in the busyness. The tap water we have here is fine, but not great, and it is so much easier to drink more when it tastes good. I have been buying bottled, but I hate how expensive it is and the waste that it creates. Have been considering a Brita filter or something of the sort. We used to have one and I recall it being pretty effective, so we will have to give that a go again.
Exercise is another big ‘Eek’ for me. I love being active, but often don’t find the time to commit. Yoga is something I enjoy and do quite frequently at home, but I often don’t get any good cardio in. I love running, but I lack in consistency to really get any better. I also enjoy going to the gym, however, I also don’t have a lot of regularity in this area as the gym is so far away from my home. My goals here are to improve consistency, even if I only go for a short run or gym visit each day. I know many of you are runners-any tips?
Lastly, I really need to work on maintaining a varied, healthy diet. I am a vegetarian, and while I love healthy food, the sweets are addicting and I find myself over-indulging quite often. I often eat when I am craving sweets, not when I am actually hungry. My goal here is to plan out meals and snacks so I don’t find myself eating a whole package of oreos at 2am or something of the sort. Another, more long-term goal I have is to become vegan and cut out most processed foods. Being vegan is something I strive for and while I don’t particularly enjoy eating animal products even now, it is a lot of work to eliminate them while keeping a balanced diet.
What about you guys?
I’m 5’6″ and want to get back to my 60kg – so I’m looking at losing (and hopefully never finding again) just shy of 10kg.
My diet tends to be very healthy in terms of ingredients, which is lucky because I love to eat.
Unfortunately, I’m 37 and this past year my activity level has dropped significantly, so my metabolism has probably dropped with it. I’ve been working 14-hour days between teaching and finishing up a novel, which spells lazy bunny.
My goal is to limit myself to three square meals a day (I don’t do well with small frequent meals – my tummy rumbles all day long). I also hope to get back out on the water a lot more frequently (I sail, SUP, and scuba dive). And one yoga class and one ballroom dancing class on weekends, money permitting. Inshallah (Arabic for God willing lol). ![]()
Great thread
I’ve been working on toning up a bit for some time. I’m 5’11” and last year was down to around what I consider my ideal weight which is around 65-67kg (about 145 pounds). Then my fiance arrived from the USA and we snacked more, ate more chocolate while watching movies etc, lol, and I put on a little and got up to 75.6kg…. ewww. It really wasn’t too noticeable except around my tummy which stuck out more than I liked, haha. Also it made me more unfit.
So since around Christmas I’ve been cutting back a bit, less sweets and treats, having a super tight budget also helps with that because I literally can’t afford those little luxuries. Just over a month ago I also moved into a more active role at work which has helped a lot with my muscle tone and probably helped to pull some of the weight off as well as eating much healther. A sandwhich and two pieces of fruit at work every day, can’t go wrong with that.
Last time I weighed myself (about 1-2 weeks ago) I was down to about 71.5kg. I suspect that Easter may have done some damage to that figure, but I’m not game to check, haha. I just really want to be able to maintain below 70kg, which is why 67kg is a good goal I think. I would like to be more active at home, but ever since losing Bandit I’ve been at a bit of a loss of what to do with myself around the house. He became such a huge part of my daily routine.
So I’ve already lost about 4kg since Christmas, which is a pretty big deal. Only a little more to go though I feel that’s the toughest part, because I’ve always been thin, but a big eater. Now I’m still a big eater, but being 28 my metabolism isn’t the same as what it was 10 years ago ![]()
See? See?! THIS is why I need to get back on my board. Squishy arms. ![]()
Book is due to the publisher on Friday, I’m going to blow off steam on Saturday, and then as of Sunday, these arms are in trouble.
I will join in! I’m about 5’10 and weigh 130 lbs so I don’t need to loose weight… BUT I have a fitbit and I’m friends with my family on it and every week they are constantly beating me with the amount of steps they take! I would like just one week that I’m not at the bottom of the step count. Just one.
Yay! You’ve revived the “movement” LEL!
Oh gosh. I had plans to start exercising and dieting at the beginning of March and, well, THAT never happened. *sigh* I’m 5’9″ and bouncing around between 165 and 170 lbs. Yikes! I don’t look big, but I’m definitely not comfortable in my clothes. I have a nice roll of fat on my tummy and it’s gotten to the point where I can’t hide it anymore. I’ve always had a booty, but my thighs are getting there now. My husband and I had plans for a second honeymoon in August and I really wanted to be swimsuit-ready by then. So far, I have failed miserably in even getting started. I sit at a desk all day, which doesn’t help. I used to work at a job where I was always up moving around, whether it was caring for animals or walking the trails. Now I sit and stare at a computer all day. =\ And, of course, there is my one weakness. Soda, soda, and more soda! I’m seriously addicted. I can more or less eat healthy otherwise, but I have to have that sugar/caffeine fix.
So, anyway, the plan was to come home and do some exercising every day after work (we have an elliptical, but it’s also getting nice outside). And to cut down on eating so much at work because I’m just sitting there. I had wanted to drop 20 lbs.
It’s pretty embarrassing when you have an interview, go to put on your dress pants, and find that you need to leave the button unbuttoned (don’t worry, I had a belt) otherwise you can’t sit down.
Oh well, at least I don’t have people asking me if I’m pregnant all the time anymore. That was always so mortifying. Oddly, I think I look more pregnant now than I ever did. But I work with a bunch of men now and they don’t ask silly questions like that.
LOL, LBJ. So true! I work at an all girls school with all female staff. Ooof… I miss the boys.
Ok… I know it doesn’t mean a whole lot at the very start, since it’s probably all water anyways, but I started my “be proactive” plan yesterday.
Breakfast: bowl of fruit salad, glass of buttermilk, a chunk of baguette
Lunch: sandwich (whole wheat bread, gouda, spam, mustard – Yes. I love spam. LOL), bowl of veggie soup (made by me!)
Dinner: small bowl of pasta with tomato and pesto sauce, big bowl of salad greens with a splash of lemon juice, glass of red wine (made by me!)
This morning the scale showed -1kg
So water or not, it’s motivational. I drink a ton of water anyways because I like water… so to celebrate, I went for a quick walk by the sea before work this morning (bleh… back to the grind… 12-hour day today)
Any news from you guys? ![]()
I’m 5’6 and about 140lbs so I don’t need to lose any weight, but I’m recently recovering from depression and I’m getting into running and biking again and I’m SO out of shape, a mile of walking and running has me wheezing where I used to be able to do at least 2 or 3 without nearly dying. I also am trying to eat a little better, but that’s a little harder for a picky eater like me.
My goal though is to eventually run a marathon, I haven’t set a time limit for it though, because I know it’ll be a lot of training and I’m starting college so I won’t have the time to focus on that alone. The one super healthy thing about me though is that I don’t drink soda. I usually have a huge bottle of water I drink during the day.
A marathon! Niiice… I fubared my ankles and knees during half a lifetime of ballet and martial arts, so no high impact for me. But I’ve always so admired people who run marathons (not to win, but just to complete it – what an incredible achievement!) ![]()
I drink lots of water every day, I always have. I don’t know how people can go through their day without drinking it. I get headaches so easily when I don’t drink water so I always have a bottle with me, or a glass of water by my side when I’m at home.
I do drink a little bit of soft drink (soda) though I’ve cut back recently. I didn’t drink very much of it at all, then my fiance moved here from the USA and he drinks a lot of soft drink so I starting drinking it often by default, just because it was there
I have much more self control on that front now, though I do enjoy maybe 2 small glasses of it twice a week (less than a can). Which is nothing really in the grand scheme of things.
My real nemesis is actually iced coffee. Fortunately, thanks to a tighter budget I can’t currently afford to buy them. Whereas a few months ago I was having one a day (600ml) which really adds up quick when you’re trying to save money. I actually had one today for the first time in 2+ weeks. But only because someone else bought it for me ![]()
I feel like this is some terrible confession.
I am 5’5” at about 150 lbs. (68 kg) I am not very overweight, but Ii definitely want to get in shape and be overall healthier (I have terrible food and exercise habits lol). Here are my goals:
*Drink more water and cut out sugary drinks! (Limiting myself to water, zero calorie sports drinks and natural stuff…baby steps ha ha)
*Go Vegetarian (not really anything to do with getting in shape. but any tips with that would be amazing
) and eat less
*Exercise More
*Lose weight. I haven’t picked a number or anything. But I’m thinking I’d like my final weight to be around 125.
Pizza. Yep, I had pizza for lunch. *sigh*
Technically, it has all 4 food groups.
I was just naughty myself and noshed on some banana-flavoured wafers because there was no time between classes to eat anything healthy from my lunchbag. *sigh* Teaching during my prep time this semester is brutal – it makes the day go by quickly, but no pee- or food- or fresh air-break is NO FUN.
Is it June yet? ![]()
I have consumed 1020 calories today and have done a little bit of exercising.
Going vegetarian while trying to lose weight is hard! ![]()
It’s dawn on Friday morning, and thanks to its being the glorious weekend, I can have a proper, sit-down, healthy, and not-rushed breakfast: brown toast with tomato, basil, and feta salad.
FOOOD, GLORIOUS FOOOOOD…. (sung to the tune from Oliver Twist)
Although honestly, sometimes I think the best slimming program is to eat only foods our buns love – I know that between Chewie eating some of my food, and my chasing after him to get it back, it’d be calorie reduction AND exercise. ![]()
I was imagining it more to the tune of the food song on Ice age 2(?), where the birds were singing “food glorious food, magical food!”
![]()
I have been vegetarian for 4 days. It’s getting easier and easier. (I’m not craving meat as much ect.) xD
For dinner tonight I had a small portion of “Sweet potato Apple hash”. It’s literally just sweet potato, apple, Italian seasoning and butter or oil (depending on preference). Then you just saute it up on a pan on the stove. ![]()
That sounds interesting Moxie. I’ve never heard of that before.
Let’s see, over the last few days I managed to eat fried chicken, two cheeseburgers, a taco salad, and teriyaki with rice. Do you see how hard this is?
You can add other stuff into it too (Like green onions ect.) But that was all we had on hand lol. =P
LBJ10 I’m totally coming to your house for dinner. LOL I’m sooooo hungry right now, and it’s only 5 in the morning.
I had mac and cheese tonight………
Mmm… Yum yum…
Haha! I’m going to break you guys of your diets just by telling about all the bad things I’ve been eating.
My father and I have a standing tradition of riding a tandem bike the 300 or so miles to my college. This semester I have definitely skimped on my workouts as my class schedule has gotten crazy so my current goal in getting ready for that ride again: stationary bike workouts 4 or 5 times a week, core exercises, and eventually adding back in some weight training!
Also, I’m working on being aware of what I eat since it is so easy to just constantly eat junk food as I’m studying. I’m working on drinking a lot more water/tea and keeping a food journal so I am conscious of what I am putting in my body ![]()
That is awesome Liv! ![]()
Liv, that’s so cool!
LBJ: Since I spent the day home yesterday due to food poisoning (bad fish) my stomach is so raw at the moment that even water makes me cringe.
((Q8)) feel better soon!
I started trying to lose weight 3 weeks back, having kept putting it off as not being the right time ever since my friend was killed in a road accident three and a half years ago.
I knew that a) in one week it was Easter, b) in two weeks my son turned 18, c) I had two science assignments to get the first half of both done, and I can’t do them without ongoing tea and chocolate, and d) it is never going to be the right time.
First week I did quite well, and dropped 4 lb.
Second week included Easter weekend, but 1 lb is better than none, right?
Third week, my eldest son only turns 18 once. My youngest will be away at uni when he turns 18. My assignments needed to be done. So a nice meal out, a couple of takeaways, and lots of chocolate weren’t really optional! Given which, I’m happy to have not regained the 5 lb I lost the first two weeks.
However, the boys are back at college today, and my science assignments are on pause for group work to be done.
So its back to getting the weight off.
I was vegetarian from my mid teens for maybe 8-9 years, but went back, initially to white meat only as I was underweight and anaemic, but to red meat too once my eldest was on the way.
I stopped eating chicken a few weeks ago, and the boys have accepted I’ve ‘just gone off it’, and have limited myself to small amounts of lamb or beef since. I don’t like fish, never have.
We had lamb kebabs for tea last night, which I’m hoping will be my last meat meal.
I’m going to see how I do going without meat for the next few days. I’d like to return to being vegetarian if I can, but I know that non-haem (non-meat) iron is much harder for the body to absorb unless some haem (meat) iron is eaten first. The haem iron acts as a kind of magnet for the non-haem iron to be absorbed, so its not just how much iron a vegetarian eats, its about the lack of haem iron.
If I can stay healthy, i.e. not anaemic, without meat, then I will join in with MoxieMeadows, and we can go vegetarian together. Apart from any animal welfare issues, I am also concerned how many hormones are pumped into the animals, and the accumulative effect that has on me. So it might boil down to struggling with anaemia versus not wanting any more hormones that aren’t actually there for the animals good, but to get them big and fat fast. I’m sure that has something to do with my weight gain, at least I’m hoping cutting out the hormones via meat will help the weight come back off!
I hear you, GJ. After yesterday I am seriously considering going back to vegeterianism. But I too am prone to acute anemia, so that’s always been a struggle in terms of picking the lesser of two evils. Maybe I’ll have a Saturday (Sunday) roast or something once a week and see if I get by ok with non-meat food the rest of the time.
It sounds like your non-food plate is really full – it’s fantastic that you still have the energy for the bunny bonding odyssey and the health-reboot. ![]()
Does lentil soup and a Wagon Wheel count as a suitable lunch?
I’m a student, even if a mature one, so that’s my excuse for the super healthiness lol
Now why can’t someone come up with iron enriched chocolate biscuits ![]()
Would a vegetarian sub from Subway count as healthy?
I mean it’s bread, veggies and cheese(optional), and condiments if you want. I mean it’s not *completely* terrible right? lol ![]()
Today was day number 6 being a vegetarian! =]
Bun with feta and tomatoes for brekkie, root veg & lentil pottage for lunch, tagliatelli with tomato pesto sauce and green salad for dins. Yes. I sprinkled on some fresh parmesan. And then had a very elaborate dream in which I was forced to buy black market Grana Padano Reggiano. ROTFL
Um… I think they got rid of the yoga mat foam chemical in the bread at Subway. So yes, it probably isn’t that bad.
So proud of you Moxie-6 days is great! Keep it up!
I’ve been experimenting with vegan and raw meal ideas, just to get to know what I like and if I can make it work. For lunch, I had brown rice pasta with a vegan spinach pesto, and two lettuce wraps with tahini, bean sprouts, celery, and ginger. Lots of fruits and veggies as snacks. I also caved and ate a few reeses cookies…not vegan…oops.
I did so well with the water for a while. I had a Fuji water bottle, two of those per day, all set. Kind of lost it the last few days.
Haven’t worked out as much as I should either… oops.
For any of you dieting/calorie counting, I would definitely recommend the app MyPlate. I’ve been using it for a while-very helpful. ![]()
Day 3 meat free. Nearly messed up yesterday, was in town, and I sometimes pop in to the bakers and buy a fresh hot sausage roll (the kind in puff pastry, not bread). Was next in the queue when I remembered no meat, was soooo disappointed!
Gina.Jenny, I hear you. I’ve almost messed up a few times on stuff you wouldn’t think contains animal products! Like Marshmallows and Starburst candies contain gelatin. And Worcestershire sauce containes Anchovies ![]()
Today is day number 8 being Vegetarian!! ![]()
Currently eating a whole box of sour patch kids….. Whoops.
LEL! ![]()
I haven’t bee off to a great start diet-wise today! uhgg it’s all been unhealthy!! For breakfast I had one peanut butter toast with a little pineapple preserves on it. I then just had like 1/3 of a boston crème honeybun (it wasn’t that big but was packed with calories!!). (the whole thing was like 500 calories, so I was NOT willing to eat all of that in one go ha ha) It’s 1:12 PM.
Around 2:00 PM I’ll make a salad and have a glass of lemonade. For dinner we are gonna be having tater tot casserole uhggg, it’s sooo good but so bad for you ha ha.
Try not to be too hard on yourself Moxie. One cheat day isn’t gunna hurt.
Though I agree that tator tot casserole is heavenly!
Today was great! Only “bad” things I ate today were a small amount of sugar cereal and a tiny piece of cake.
Otherwise, I had zucchini pasta with steamed broccoli, a large salad, and a smoothie bowl for a big lunch, then a small amount of quinoa and apple slices with almond butter for dinner. All vegan and very tasty. ![]()
Sounds like everyone is doing pretty well. We had some excitement earlier this week so I bought some chocolate to celebrate which didn’t help things. But otherwise as a general rule I eat pretty well, fairly consistently. I still allow myself nutella on bread etc, I just don’t go overboard. I’m more of a weight loss through portion control and frequency than complete elimination person. I’m still hovering around 71.5kg, which isn’t bad, it’s just not where I’d like to be. Last time I was over 70 and lost weight, getting below 70 was the toughest part.
Yoohoo ! Smee !
Have you heard of the 5-2 diet – its all the rage in the UK and my best friend in Sydney has lots AND KEEPS OFF heaps of weight. Well done her !!!
It’s simple and can be installed for the rest of your living lifes. Something that cannot be said for most ‘diets’.
Its simple – 2 days (non consecutive) in the week you eat only 500 cal, the other 5 days you eat normally…. no double mega macs, but just normally. The days on which you eat very little, calls upon the extra energie in your fats cells to come a-runnning !! And you never really have that hunger feeling because you can eat the following day after semi-fasting.
If that can help any of you out there – then try it – choose the two 500 cal days (mondays are good after a heavy weekend!) and go for it !! LOL
I believe today is day 11 being vegetarian.
It’s been kinda hard (but not THAAAT hard) since all of my family are meat-eaters. It’s a lot of effort to cook something else or a vegetarian option, but I’m been doing good about it.
I’ve had no slip-ups.
As for losing weight, we don’t have a scale with batteries so I can’t tell for sure, but I don’t feel much skinnier, LOL.
It is day 11 for you, I’m on day 6, and started 5 days after you
no skinnier here either
I think Podge has done the weight loss for all three of us ![]()
Coming up for a week of no meat, and here’s me tucking into hallumi stir fry ![]()
Okay, if it wasn’t official before, it is now. It was 80 degrees today. I dug out my shorts so I could wear them and, well, I couldn’t even get them past my hips. Keep in mind, I was wearing these in September/October…..
Help guys. ![]()
Something to celebrate because in the past week I’ve managed to get below 71kg! I was hovering mid 71 for such a long time, so I finally cracked that about a week ago which was nice. It’s good to know that things are on a steady, though gradual decline.
That’s great, Azerane!
Breaking a plateau is SO satisfying.
I’ve been out of sorts this past week, so not grocery shopping = not eating much = dropped some weight, but not sure how much because I couldn’t be bothered to step on the scale. I just know because my skirt kept slipping down on my hips. ![]()
Today’s day 19 being vegetarian! I came close to giving up last night (I spent Friday night and Saturday (last night) night at my friend’s house). We made a Chinese chicken stir fry. But I just ate mine without chicken.
I think my mom is getting more frustrated with me the longer this goes on. I think she was/is hoping I’ll give up.
We were shopping today and we came to the meat section. It legit said “Discounted Pig Butt”.
I’ll be buying a weight scale so I can see how much I weigh. Fingers crossed I’ll at least have lost a few pounds. I don’t feel any skinnier. *Sigh*
Well done Q8, nothing quite like loose clothing to let you know you’ve lost some weight ![]()
Congrats on going strong with the vegetarian diet, I’m sure that I could never do it. We don’t eat a lot of meat, but when I don’t eat red meat for a while my body definitely craves it.
I had a great surprise this morning. Jumped on the scale to find a reading of 69.7kg!
So that’s just crazy. It’s probably because I’ve been sick the last few days, though I haven’t skipped meals and have been nothing but a slug so I really didn’t expect to have lost anything at all. So hooray for being sick? ![]()
Yay, Azerane! See what I mean? Feeling poorly is the secret to weightloss progress. ![]()
I’m jealous Q8. I wish my clothes suddenly felt looser. ![]()
I’ve lost like no weight. =/
Still vegetarian though.
What have you been eating Moxie? Sometimes vegetarian options are not very diet friendly.
Three weeks of no meat for me too
LBJ— I know! It’s super difficult. I’ve really been pushing salads/veggies, but will have the occasional unhealthy option. I’ve actually lost like 2 pounds but I don’t feel like that’s enough! Better off than on I guess! =P
The day after tomorrow will be day 28 (4 weeks!) vegetarian. ![]()
I would eat mac&cheese all the time if I could…
I bought some new Nike shoes so I guess I should start using them soon, huh?
Naaah… they make great bun toys, LBJ.

Yay for weeks meat free for me today
gone from really missing it to feeling queasy at the thought of it, just hope anaemia doesn’t become an issue
Great job, GJ!
I’ve been on a roasted veg with stewed lentils and lime rice kick… yum. Anyone else hungry? lol
GJ Great job! I’m still meat-free as well.
And the same had happened to me, really craving it to feeling queasy at the thought. It’s been a little over a month (32 days)
Also, how do you know if you get Anemic? Since I’ve never been veg. I want to keep a good eye on my health for a while.
There’s quite a few websites listing symptoms, this one seems quite detailed
http://www.webmd.boots.com/a-to-z-guides/anaemia-symptoms-treatment
Maybe an idea to be aware of the main symptoms?
Ok, thanks! ![]()
5 weeks meat free, and the boys are teasing me a bit less now ![]()
That’s great GJ!
I am so impressed by you guys in your switch to being vegetarian. It took me so much longer, I had such a liking of marshmallows (nasty gelatin!)
![]()
I’ve inadvertently been meat free for at least a few weeks too, although I haven’t counted, to be honest.
Right now (not healthy, I know) I’m starving and am zooming off to Chili’s with my friend for an after-school nachos and salsa and iced tea (no real margaritas here lol).
One more day of school, and then finals week, and then blissful summer…
My husband and I went for walks a couple of evenings last week and then…… nothing. *sigh*
My eldest has his second A level maths exam in the morning, and my youngest has a chess tournament tonight, so treated us all to a nice unhealthy fish n chips.
Our local chippy now has two vege options, a vege burger, or a battered cheese and onion patty. Tried the patty, followed by battered pineapple rings ![]()
Bumppity Bump!
How’s the vegatarianism going Moxie? ![]()
Great LEL, it’s been about 2 1/2 months now?
I’ve been really working on drinking more water and less sugary/chemically drinks like soda and juices. Which is a big pain, because I’ve never liked the “taste” of water. =P Really been pushing on the veggies. I’ve lost about 5 1/2 pounds… Only a billion more to go, ha ha ![]()
Nice job, Moxie! I hate drinking flat water too, but I love carbonated water, I could drink it all day. Maybe you could try that?
think this is right topic. Why we don’t work out more>
LOL !!!!! I have NO idea what that machine is – there are no oars for a rowing machine and no feet holders for a cruncher… but I spotted the bum-cheek seat !!
Lol
Its the rowing thingie. Oars are folded you can se one on the pick and feet holders are on the other side. Cant see it properly on the pick but had to share it.
And mind you, that was not the only time he sleeps like that. I would have to be stone cold hearted to move him.
Niamian, that’s the perfect “excuse” for not working out more! It’d be bordering on cruelty to animals to claim that machine for yourself.
Thank you bam. This is way not me or my husband has been using it over half a year now.
I mean it would be just too cruel.
My husband and I both need to go on diets. OMG, we have just been so awful lately, despite the fact that I had started out trying to do the right thing. *sigh*
I had a taco salad for lunch today. Yes, I ate the shell. Is that bad? LOL
Just looked it up. It’s 720 calories!!! =O
Nah it should be fine. It was a whole meal.
But the thing that bugs me is that I can destroy little chocolate bar in a split second and have to run 45min. to spend it… shh. Just saying, not fer.
Btw. Anyone have any questions about anemia I can help since I’ve been dealing with it on a serious level whole my life.
Uhg, I went to a friend’s graduation party and totally failed my diet. Ate a bunch of potato salad and chips (since everything else was either meat or had meat in it) grr. ![]()
Don’t worry about it, I had three ham and cheese croissants yesterday along with other food at a 1 year old’s birthday party
That being said, I’m doing very well at having two pieces of fruit at work every day and my sandwich and while I haven’t lost anymore weight I have managed to maintain my weight at about 69.6kg for some time now, which is a great achievement for me staying under that 70kg level. Which is pretty pleasing given that I still eat occasional chocolate and desserts etc.
One bad meal here and there won’t destroy you, just gotta keep the whole thing in perspective ![]()
Azarane, I know, but it feels like it will. ![]()
This is a nice thread! I’ve been actively working on my health since 2011, because I got a chronic rheumatic disease in 2010. Low-impact exercise is the key here, so I do a lot of walking and cycling (at least an hour of it every day, whenever I’m physically able). I’m trying to get more exercise which is not too hard on my joints and muscles. Yoga didn’t work for me, but when my budget improves I’d like to go swimming. My weight is 64 kg at 1,63 m. Not exactly slim, but not too chubby either. I have a tendency towards broad shoulders, large breasts and a bit of a tum. My BF thinks it’s a great snuggle-figure, and he uses me as a pillow when we’re watching a film together ^_^
My food is very natural because of a food allergy, I have to cook nearly everything from scratch. The food industry here sure seems to love its gluten, it’s fricking everywhere… Cooking takes a lot of time, but my BF is quite enthousiastic about my cooking. Lately I’ve been cutting down on animal protein because of health and ecological concerns. I’ve swapped most of my dairy for soy-based varieties, and I’ve reduced my meat intake. Trying to get 2 days of vegetarian dinners, but my BF is not too enthousiastic about that. He has iron deficiency and does high-impact sports 4 times a week, and he demands his meat. Going part-time veggie is still a bit of a puzzle, because dairy doesn’t sit well with me, and most meat substitutes are made with wheat and other grains. Appearantly gluten reigns supreme in veggie-land… I usually choose unprocessed tofu, beans, nuts and legumes.
Because of recurring lower back (SI-joint) problems I’m trying to work on my core. It would also be good if my tum tightens up a bit, so I’ve been looking for back-friendly core exercises. My lower back is quite curved, and together with a bit of tummy fat I’ve been congratulated a lot lately. I’m not pregnant darn it…Just a bit out of shape, thank you! Hope that more exercise will improve it.
You should give Pilates a try, Ellie. Strengthens the core, low impact, and the mat exercises can be done at home for free. ![]()
So I’ve been vegetarian for nearly 4 months. Lost 16 pounds. I will hopefully lose at least another 9 pounds, then I’ll be happy.
Currently I’m 5’4” and 3/4” (so nearly 5’5″) and 139 pounds. 125 to 130 is my goal weight rn. The drs said my BMI is just fine, but I still wanna lose some. Maybe I’ll bump up the exercise?
Come visit me, Moxie. You can sit on the beach in the world’s largest steam room, and quickly sweat off those last few pounds. ![]()
Great idea Q8bunny
Looking up some exercises now that are lower back-friendly. When I was choosing my clothing this morning my yoga mat fell off the shelf and hit me on the head. How many signs do you need? ![]()
rofl Ellie !!
Yes Pilates very good – you MUST do it right for it to work though. 3 ‘must dos’ to strengthen and protect the core (and not put your back out again doing them!)
1) Lower tummy muscles – pull them !
2) Lower back must be flat, not arched – so if on floor you can’t put you hand under your lower back
3) Tighten ‘down below’ like you’re holding a wee in
And don’t forget to breathe properly – don’t hold your breath…
Difficult to explain, but they are the 4 things to remember and remember again once you’re concentrating on other stuff too. “are you still holding your tummy muscles in?”…. err noooooo ![]()
I feel like with all the summer activities and graduation parties, I’ve gained like 5 million pounds. =/
With how busy and stressed I’ve been and having a slight stomach virus, I’ve lost about 5 pounds in the last week (I’m like 134-135 now). I’m glad the weight is coming off, but I also know that losing weight that quickly isn’t that healthy. =/
It’s probably just water weight Moxie.
LBJ— Probably.
Okay, I weighed myself last night and I just about cried. I have never weighed this much in my entire life. I feel so fat.
I’m scared because my brother-in-law is 47 and he had a stroke last week. He’s okay, but wow, talk about wake up calls.
Here’s my problem. I cannot stop drinking soda. I just can’t. I’m so addicted to it, it’s ridiculous. I also want to eat….. french fries, burgers, pasta, pasta, more pasta, cheese, cookies, cupcakes, and other various sweets. ALL THE TIME. I feel stressed and sad all the time. I want to eat things that make me feel better. Then I immediately feel guilty because I know I shouldn’t eat that stuff. But then I feel stressed and sad again and I want to go eat something bad. OMG, did I mention pizza? I will stop and get a slice of pizza for lunch several times per week. I’m naughty, naughty, naughty.
Good things? My husband and I have been taking walks in the evening. Not every night, but a few times per week. It just depends on how hot it is and how late it is. I’m also getting a standing work station at work.
Help me ladies! It’s more than simply telling me to stop doing what I’m doing. I start out with good intentions, but then cave halfway through the day. Especially since I don’t drink coffee and soda is my only source of caffeine. =\
Okay, I know I sound crazy to a lot of people (
), but if you take it slow, and get plenty of sleep, you could wean yourself off of needing caffeine. Could you start substituting some of your sodas with flavored 0 calorie sparkling waters, 0 calorie so be lifewaters, or something healthier that you like you could start substituting your soda with?
I used to have a bad soda addiction (It got so bad I could go weeks without drinking water), but I started substituting, and now I drink water and some zero calorie drinks. ![]()
LBJ10: did you know that extreme carb cravings are often linked to depression-like symptoms and stress? Here’s more about that: http://www.webmd.com/depression/features/craving-carbs
It may be that stress is making you crave “quick energy”, and the eating stresses you out even more because you feel guilty. Many people in this situation also label their day as “ruined” if they’ve made a slip-up and indulged in an unhealthy snack, and continue to snack more that day because they feel they already blew it. If this is the case for you then maybe a counselor can help you manage your stress and feelings of guilt about eating, to get you out of this vicious cycle. You’d be surprised how many people struggle with stress-eating, and it’s no shame to ask help from a professional.
Remember that you’re already doing great things for your health. Taking those walks together is good for your mood, your relationship and your self-esteem. Standing and walking on the job also forces you to be active. Keeping a diary and writing down all the positive changes you made also works wonders for your motivation. Keep making those small changes in your life and your lifestyle will change for the better ![]()
You can do it LBJ10! If you’re having trouble stopping, consider cutting back a bit instead. Don’t prevent yourself from having what you’re craving because a slip up tends to lead to over indulgence. If you have 4 sodas a day, cut it back to 2 or 3. If you’re having a big glass, perhaps use a smaller glass to reduce the size, or a can instead of a bottle. With muffins and cupcakes, cut them in half. That was you can still satisfy the craving, but it’s not as bad. The same goes for serving sizes of pasta. Use a smaller bowl or just reduce the size of the serve. I know it’s very tough, I found it very hard to quit regularly eating/drinking certain things, but it’s worth it and the cravings pretty much just fade away after a while.
I’ve been awful (I repeat AWFUL) with my diet and excersize. I just can’t resist the sweet stuff! Cookies, donuts, etc. I don’t buy it but if it is accessible I eat it. I haven’t gone to the gym in ages…. I also have been forgetting to hydrate. Oops….
I have been trying out more healthy vegan recipes in the midst of this, though. I tried out a suprizingly delicious pesto zoodles (zucchini noodles) dish, as well as vegan 2 ingredient pancakes and lots and lots of smoothies.
I literally eat whatever I have around, so I need to make a greater effort to surround myself with healthy options. I don’t shop as much as I should so often we run out of healthy fruit and veg. Will try to make a better effort on that.
Here’s the plan for tommorow-walk to the gym in the morning, bike to the new smoothie shop down the street. See if I can hit up the farmers markets for dinner ingredients.
I’ll let you know how that goes. LOL
I want to be a pastry chef when I grow up, so I bake a lot (around once a week). It dosen’t really matter of you eat something sweet once a week as long as you go outside all day or whenever you can (I know most people work). It’s summer! But I personally prefer autumn and winter to play outside, because of the leaves and the snow.
Another thing to do is make smoothies for breakfast! Put rolled oats in it, it makes it taste really good like no-bake cookies without the chocolate. If you don’t like greens like my weird sister, then maybe you should put a banana in it to make it taste sweeter. Also, it fills you up more if you put chia seeds in it because they get bigger when they soak in water (or when the go in your stomach). But if you do this, eat it fast because chia seeds might make the smoothie turn goopy if you leave it out too long, like if you put it in a to-go mug, or if you close it up in a mason jar (that is what we use for cups because they are cheap and look cool) to eat later. Or maybe it was the oats, not the chia seeds…
And if you go vegetarian or vegan, eat beets! I think they are gross (I like everything except beets and raisins), but they have lots of the good things meat has without the extra fat. Also eat lentils too.
Ellie – Yes, I’ve been pretty sure for a long time that these cravings are linked to my depression cycle. I have a hard time controlling myself most days. If I could just stop sneaking out for pizza for lunch, I probably wouldn’t be doing so bad. It’s almost guaranteed my husband will need to go somewhere when I get home and we end up grabbing a burger. Just today, my husband needed to go to the hardware store… across town. So we ate at a burger place over there. Luckily, I ate fruit for lunch because I had an appointment at 11am and it ended up lasting until 2pm! I ate some fruit when I got back to my office because the express lunch pizza was over. I most definitely would have stopped on the way back to my office if it hadn’t been 2pm! It was calling my name!
I don’t, however, feel like the day is “ruined” necessarily and say screw it for the rest of the day. It always, just, happens. =\
Azerane – People drink 4 per day! o_O Jeez! No, I will have like 2. Unless I’m really thirsty and the place we’re at has refills. When it’s hot, I’m tempted to drink more. I do break the giant cookies in half. Unless I’m just not caring that day. Then I’ll eat the whole thing.
LEL – OMG, they keep having leftovers at work. Cake, cookies, donuts. An email will go out that there’s free whatever and everyone goes running.
I rode my bike to the gym this morning. I haven’t worked out in forever, it felt good.
Been eating lots of fruits and veg today. I can resist the sweets if there is fruit around!
Well done LEL
Have a great day!
@LBJ10: if you’re an always-on-the-go eater, it helps to be prepared with healthy and easy alternatives. Especially if you have a very busy lifestyle it helps to have food ready that takes very little time and effort. It’s also important to always have 3 decent nutricious meals in a day to reduce cravings and binges. Eating too little also contributes to being overweight: your body gets stressed out and goes into “hunger-mode”, converting everything to fat. Make sure that every meal has protein and a dose of healthy fats (nuts, olive oil, fish, egg) to keep your metabolism up
Some ideas for easy snacks:
hard-boiled eggs can be stored for 4 days, cook a few and put them in the fridge. Easy to carry with you, very filling and nutricious: lots of minerals, healthy fats and proteins.
fruits and snack-veggies
25 g of unsalted and preferably unbaked nuts (again: healthy fats are awesome)
sesame or peanut bars (Again: healthy fats and a bit of sugar. Break them into small pieces, because a whole bar is too much)
If dinner is difficult, try to make your own stuff and freeze it. I have an entire freezer full of homecooked ready meals: pasta sauce with loads of veggies, self-made soups, hutspot with meatballs (Dutch dish made of potato, carrot and onions, all mashed together), baked rice with veggies, taco filling etc. I cook large batches of food when things are on sale and portion them. It may seem like a large time-investment, but in 1 evening you can cook up a large batch which gets you at least 12 portions. Doing this every other week will give you more variety in the meal options. It’s more time-efficient and more economical than cooking every day. Plus, you can regulate how many veggies and how much salt goes into it.
Meal-prepping is a great idea. I usually do smoothie bags (fruit and greens in a freezer bag ready for blending) and I always chop up fruit and veg so it’s ready. Mason jars are my hero, I often pack meals in them and just grab one when hungry. ![]()
SUGAR IS OUR ENEMY (well too much of it is
)
OK – to stop drinking soda (= 10 (TEN!) teaspoons of sugar per can! Our bodies need 2 (well that’s just ridiculous imho)) or to cut down, take only water with you to work and no loose change so you can’t buy one at work. If you cut down to one can (saving 10 teaspoons per day, 70 teaspoons per week !!!) , drink the soda only in the morning and none in the afternoon – absolutely no soda in the evening.
If you crave the bubbles how about fizzy water? – Perrier darling?
I’m a sugar freak too. I don’t eat healthily. But I always ALWAYS take the stairs.
I watched a prog on sugar the other day which made me… well it didn’t change much but I am much more aware if that makes sense.
Instead of having 2 sugar cubes in my tea I have cut down to 1 (and crumbs from the bottom of the pack! lol)
“Not much” I hear you you say ?! Hah, well if I have 6 cups of tea a day (which I do), I have reduced my daily intake by 6 sugars (42 sugars PER WEEK! Oh yes,, maths is my forté !!) by not even trying !!!
Also the TV prog (amazingly) showed that our bodies automatically produce a shot of sugar in the evenings to ‘survive’ through the night. So if on top of that we have a sugary drink or sugary food then that evening sugar level flies up high, peaks even more and then because we go to sleep there is no immediate burn off and it goes straight into our fat stores…..
So – the saying goes “BREAKFAST LIKE A KING, LUNCH LIKE A PRINCE and SUPPER LIKE A PAUPER.
And NO (or considerably less) sugar in the evenings.
Add a BRISK evening walk to that (no point plodding along being overtaken by snails – that’s doing nothing) – and the pounds will fall off. Without even trying !!
Come home to a camomile, or mint or raspberry tea drink (or whatever rocks your boat), but NO sugar in the evenings.
Or at least make an effort to cut down….
re the too often pizzas – a (rather grim) visual aide is required…
When you have the triangular slice of melted cheese in your hand, imagine you slap it against your bum or your thighs or your belly and it just sticks there…..adding those exact centimetres to your chosen area.
Also – eat it with smaller bites and chew lots. You’ll trick your mind into eating more. It does work – it does it does.
If you see real big people eating, they tend to ‘stuff’ food (any food) into their mouths, hardly chewing, hardly swallowing before the next is stuffed down. It’s like a chain smoker smoking, it’s such a habit, they don’t really know they’re doing it.
Take your time, enjoy the food, let your body & mind prepare for it as you chew. Poor little tummies….
Good luck – it WILL be worth it !
Did people invent Dessert before they knew about the sugar our bodies produce in the afternoons?
The problem with pre-made meals, even frozen meals, is they get left uneaten. They just sit in the fridge or freezer until they go bad…
Vienna – I never heard that saying before. I figure that if I can go all day without drinking soda then it’s okay if I give in at the end of the day because then it would just be that one…..
LBJ: That’s because Vienna’s phrase is a modernization of the ancient Roman saying “Eat breakfast alone, share lunch with a friend, and give your dinner to your enemy.”
True story.
Huh? LOL

Meal-prepping is a great idea. I usually do smoothie bags (fruit and greens in a freezer bag ready for blending) and I always chop up fruit and veg so it’s ready. Mason jars are my hero, I often pack meals in them and just grab one when hungry.![]()
I have been following this subject on and off as I also have a serious sweet tooth. The smoothie bags are a great idea! I just started doing breakfast smoothies (with lots of Kale and Spinach with limited amounts of cucumber, apple, a bit of banana, blueberries and a few strawberries.) A sort of twist on the “Glowing Green Smoothie” by Kimberly Snyder. Anyway, I have to say this has really helped me so far. I drink about half of it for breakfast and then sip on it til about 1pm when I have lunch. I am on day 4 and it so far has left me feeling full, energy level is great, and less cravings. It’s still new so we will see how I feel in a few weeks! But right now, I am rather amazed actually. I am trying to get my husband to have some but it looks pretty gross to him. He said the only way it tastes good is if he can’t see it. LOL. It does look like green sludge.
But it is kind of hassle to make especially if I am in a hurry and the pre-made bags are great. Though this smoothie can be in the fridge for a couple of days so I can make smoothies a just a few times a week instead of every day. I am going to try pre packing the smoothie bags.
LBJ. lol. Q8 said the same as I did, but posher.
No sugar in the eve. Full stop.
Also… the 5-2 diet works a treat. You eat relatively normal for 5 days and 2 days of the week (non consecutive) you eat hardly anything. It works longterm because you know you’ll eat properly the following day. The days you eat less your body will call upon the fat stores….
Pick two days per week and stick to them. Monday is an easy one…. and maybe thurs…. or sunday? Depending on your routines.
Go on…. Try it for a month.
It’s not even dieting, really ![]()
What’s your guys’ favorite meals?
My dad does great with the 8:16 diet. Eats anything he craves during an 8-hour window, but then nothing but water or herbal teas for 16 hours. It’s just another form of intermittent fasting. He lost weight, felt great, and some of his health issues became way less troublesome.
Oooo, that sounds good Q8 !
Breakfast at 8, then Munch Munch till 4 pm, but then nothing…. every day…. until next breakfst…? Hmmm. Sounds harder than the 5-2. Maybe we could do one week 8:16 and one week 5-2…..
@LBJ – I was thinking of you earlier and wondered if you had thought the extra weight gain & general pfffftttt feeling recently is related to the loss of Cash….?
I know mine is related to Kyra and that was 9 months ago….
Once we face something, sometimes it’s easier to turn it around (( ))
Vienna – I’ve been steadily gaining weight since I stopped working at the nature center (end of 2014). I sit all day at my desk, unless I venture out to a job site or go to an outreach event. I was working on my thesis and I was on a time crunch for a few months (up until just recently) and we did nothing but eat fast food the entire time. I’m chronically depressed. I have been my entire adult life, but it cycles. When I feel down or stressed, I want to eat bad things. =\
Vienna: He does herbal teas until about 10 (very Regency of him lol), putting off eating as long as he can in the morning, and that allows him to have dins with the fam around 6.
Ellie: You’re so right about the boiled eggs. I bring the carton of 12 home, boil them all right away, and have them in the fridge to grab throughout the week. They stay fresh and yummy and are my favourite breakfast food. ![]()
How’s everybody doing on their health/fitness journey?
I seem to have hit a “stumbling block”. I just can’t seem to lose any more weight. I’m now about 132 (starting 155), but haven’t lost anything in like a month. Uhg. I’m definitely going to have to up the exercising. I’ve been doing a lot of exercising over the last couple of days, I just need to keep it up. Still a vegetarian as well…
Sore subject. I don’t think I’ve ever weighed as much as I do now. I keep thinking, okay this is the week I will start getting my eating under control. Then chili and cinnamon rolls are back and that all goes out the window. Dang, that’s soooooooo good.
In other news, I did get my standing desk. I haven’t been able to use it though because a part was missing in the box.
I need to figure out how to stop these cravings. Seriously, I have no self control. Like I said, I start out thinking I’m going to do the “right” thing, but come lunch time I have such a strong urge to go out and get something bad. *sigh*
Help me. ![]()
Want to know how bad it is? I have one pair of jeans that fits me. One pair. I have tons of jeans, but I can’t fit in any of them.
My biggest tip to you, would be to home cook all your meals and pack your lunches. I know it takes time and effort, but it gives you more control about the quality of the food you are putting into your body, and home cooked meals tend to be less in calories and fat than fast food. I recommend the documentary “super size me”, it’s on netflix and it’s really an eye opener about how bad fast food really is for you! Also, one of the things that helped me was to read labels. Was putting all this sodium/fat/sugars/calories into my body worth it? Nope? And I’d put it away.
Also, you’ll be less tempted to eat cinnamon rolls if you have to mix everything together from scratch and bake them…It’ll be a lot easier to just grab a banana…
Another random thing that helped me, was brushing my teeth—A LOT! I don’t like eating food when I have just brushed my teeth because it messes up the flavours etc. or when I felt snacky I would brush my teeth lol. Even if it doesn’t work, you’ll still have fresh breath! ![]()
Oh Moxie, I try taking food to work with me. But that craving hits and I head out to get something and whatever I brought with me goes uneaten. It’s bad, really bad. I literally cannot help myself. The urge is too strong.
I feel so awful about myself. Disgusted, really. I look at myself in the mirror and can only think about how much weight I’ve gained. I’m not morbidly obese or anything, but I’m definitely uncomfortable in my clothes. I can’t hide my belly anymore. It just sticks out. I feel uncomfortable when I’m sitting because there is this bulge there. Like physically uncomfortable. I worry every day that this is just the beginning. I will just continue to gain weight and then it will be very difficult to lose it. At the same time, it’s like I’m powerless to stop myself. To top it off, my husband makes comments about my weight all the time. This definitely doesn’t help and, for some reason, makes me feel even less motivated.
Have you ever tried keeping a super accurate/detailed food diary? It can help you spot patterns in your eating habits: like your most frequent cravings, your eating triggers, etc. It’s easier to find ways around the poor habits if we understand why we turn to them in the first place. Unlike many of my friends whose triggers are emotional (stress, for example) I’m a blood-sugar level eater. So if I allow myself to get hungry enough, I get grumpy and tired and will order in rather than prep food. So I get around that now by prepping high-protein and complex carb meals right after I eat dinner. That way the next day my 7am meal keeps me full until 1pm and my 1pm one until my 7pm dinner. Dinner is light because I can’t act on the munchies when I’m asleep (usually in bed by 8).
When the hub makes a comment, enlist his assistance in healthy grocery shopping or meal prepping. Or set a lovely reward for yourself every time you reach a weight loss goal (say, 5 kilos lost and you get a mani/pedi). That can help motivate AND it’s something that can make us feel even better about ourselves.
I know it’s not easy peasy, but you’re a bunny mommy – you can take on anything you really set your mind to. *hug*
Sorry to hear you’re having such trouble LBJ. I know how tricky it can be to kick cravings, they can be quite overwhelming.
Do you often crave the same thing? Or different things. Something that has worked for me, is to actually portion out things that I crave, or buy a smaller version if available. That way, you’re not cutting yourself off completely, you’re still allowing yourself to give in to the craving, but you may only be eating half as much of it. That way, it’s a bit easier to wean yourself from craving it, rather than going cold turkey. So for example if you keep a block of chocolate in the pantry, and happen to just pick the whole thing up when you want to eat some. Instead of doing that, either buy individually wrapped mini bars and force yourself to only take one at a time, or when you first buy the block, divide it up into smaller portions in individual bags.
Once you manage to deny a craving, or simply reduce the amount you have a few times, the feeling of succeeding and achievement actually becomes something you will crave too which will make it easier.
Q8 is right though, you can take this on
Don’t get yourself too down when you slip up, because that’s only a recipe to lead you to crave more. Instead, just accept that you’ve slipped up (we all do it, more often than we like to admit) and just tell yourself you’ll do better next time (and make sure you do).
Even the thought of us taking a vacation next spring isn’t enough to stop me. LOL I just say to myself, I’ll start next week. Let’s see what have I been craving lately.
Chili and cinnamon rolls are back for the season at a local fast food restaurant. It’s a very popular item here. They used to serve that at school for lunch when I was a kid. The chili itself isn’t that bad. Only 290 calories, with lots of beans for healthy fats and protein. There’s a lot of sodium in it though. The cinnamon rolls, on the other hand, are 500 calories and have 41 grams of sugar in them. That’s if they give you the standard serving. Sometimes you get lucky and they give you an extra big piece. LOL
![]()
You can do it LBJ, we believe in you! ![]()
I picked up a supplement at the health food store. It’s supposed to help balance your blood sugar and some other stuff. I guess it can’t hurt. I’m hoping it will help me resist the urge to eat certain things.
So glad to see this thread come back, I really need to be held accountable to my exercise and food habits. LOL
LBJ, sorry to hear you are having such trouble kicking your cravings. That is difficult to do.
Sounds silly, but sometimes when I crave something I will eat it, but I have to only eat it with your non-dominant hand (and a fork!). Slows me down a bit, and half the time i just get annoyed and decide it isn’t worth it.
Also it’s pretty funny to laugh at how clumsy you are.
When I was terminated from a job I was about 245 – 250 lbs, now I’m at 228 and dropping fast. I’ve really cut down on what I eat portion wise and not eating out all the time. I think for me, the worst part was working at a fast food restaurant where it’s unlimited self serve soda (pop) and pizza to no end. I got to experiment with different ingredients, but when they went into my stomach, they never really had a habit of LEAVING.
I’m working out at least five days a week, working on getting better cardio in and eating better. My plan has been to hit 200 by 1 Jan 17, or at least have less bodyfat %. Either way, I’m healthier and maybe attract one of these other hoomans called GIRLS I’ve been hearing about. I can’t be Old Maid forever ya know.
Doing great JPetrucci, wishing you well in your continued weight loss
And try to find a girl that matches your new more-active lifestyle, so you won’t rebound into bad habits.
Yay, I finally found a sport for me: aqua-fit. The rehabilitation centre just around the corner has a therapy group for people with physical problems. They give aqua-fit lessons in a heated pool of over 32 °C. Ah, it’s so good and wonderful, I felt the musles in my foot loosen up as soon as I dipped one ankle into it. First we have a 5 min warm-up, then 15 minutes of exercises and then 10 minutes of free swimming/floating/whatever you please.
Last time I was rewarded with a wicked muscle-ache, but it just goes to show that I need to exercise more. Tonight is the next time, looking forward to it already!
My mom does that at least three times a week to help her wacky joints.
Sounds heavenly.
Thanks Ellie!
I also found this website if it helps anyone who wants to calculate how many calories per day/week/month/year they want to burn to get to their desired weight:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/bmr_calculator.htm
Bodybuilding.com is also a great website for learning about fitness, being healthy, nutrition and more. It isn’t about looking like Mr. Universe, and certainly helps for those who like me are mistaken for a beached whale.
I know some of you are ballet dancers too – i’m loving this YouTube channel
https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCbUN4EOchmBbZ9ZjKi9IRVQ
I like this thread. I liked it so much I decided to try and get my act together so I could join in and be a part of it.
I went on a mile run in the local park up here. While I was there I noticed these public exercise areas, that have gym like equipment. I figured “when in rome” decided to have a go at it. (Also the endorphines/delirium of running had clearly gotten to me) I tried what’s called a ‘dip stand’ -two parallel bars that you use to raise yourself up on and then lower yourself down-all upper body type stuff.
I could not have messed up harder if I had tried. Jumped up on them, went to straighten my arms, failed, crumpled and literally face-planted myself directly in front of the area with the highest concentration of people-beside the playground and the football pitches.
I have never felt so betrayed by my own limbs before.
Also Ellie and Moxie, you might like to look at this website : http://www.the-gluten-free-chef.com/gluten-free-vegan.html
It’s not overly detailed or anything, and there arent that many recipes it’s just kind of a nice ground place to go from (in terms of replacing and supplementing things)
LBJ, this might be a fruitless suggestion, but sometimes when trying to cut something out of your diet, you end up eating more of it…because you spend so much time thinking about not having it, it amplifies the craving.
I know for a few of my friends they found that starting a good exercise routine, but continuing to eat what they wanted eventually led to them naturally craving more healthy things-because their body started to want it…but they wouldn’t have to make themselves feel bad for eating what they wanted!
I really need to step up the exercise, I’m just so busy and once I get free time, I just want to be lazy! LOL!!
![]()
You can also try to make more active choices while doing your daily routine. Exercise isn’t just about sports, and it’s easier for people to be more active within their daily routine than to try and force yourself to become a gym rat. The recommended exercise time is 30 min. a day, everything that raises your heart rate and breaks a slight sweat is seen as exercise. It doesn’t have to be 30 minutes in a row as well, even 3×10 minutes counts, or 6×5. This all includes taking the stairs, lifting groceries or heavy objects while doing the household, a brisk walk or playing frisbee with a dog, taking a bike somewhere instead of a car/bus. Weekend activities: dancing, going on a hike with friends, short bursts of cleaning up. It’s also handy to keep a notebook, writing down all activities. You’ll surprise yourself, and it feels great to take your lazy time without worrying about having to exercise.
Dface. Laughed out loud. Sorry.
(no I’m not, it was funny…)
Ellie is right sometimes it’s the simple things…..
When I go up steps (always stairs, never the lift… Even in London’s underground
) I don’t just trundle up, I go up with effort, almost running up but not quite. It says “BOO” to the heart which gets racing. Even the stairs at home….! Try it. Free exercise !
I don’t park in the space next to the shop’s entrance. I park a bit away and walk.
If you get the bus or public transport, get off a stop before the one you were due to.
Other than that I can only say again about the 5-2 method.
On 2 non consecutive days of the week, you should eat very little. Make a REAL effort about not binging. Your body will call upon “energy” you are storing in your tums or thighs…
Knowing you can eat normally the next day really helps.
It does work !
Bunny parents can do anything.
If it helps, there could be a weighing in thread started….. Weighing in once weekly revealing to all the ounces lost. Like an online bunny weightwatchers meeting…. It might be a motivation tool? Certainly, partners’ remarks usually have the opposite effect…. ![]()
Oh laugh away, when I finished dying of shame, I too saw the funny side!
I like to think my story might help others…Nothing you do now will be as embarrassingly awkward as me exercising.
I’m a huge believer of incorporating excercise into your day!
Walking and cycling to places you’d normally drive to is a wonderful way of letting exercise sneak into your life.
Having a way to monitor how much you move during the day is a great way to become more active. I have a fitbit, because I tend not to run Jun-Sep due to humidity, but still wanted to keep active. Well, and I wanted to monitor sleep too. A good old pedometer does the trick of figuring out if you’re keeping your 10.000 steps a day
Also, for the geeks out there: Pokemon Go has made me walk way more than my 10.000 daily steps :X gotta catch’em all!!
Vienna, I would be interested in a weigh-in/check-in thread. This thread is great support-wise, but I think it would be more motivating if we were all setting goals and being held accountable.
In other news, I did pick up some capri leggings (Eek!) and a moisture-wicking shirt. I also ordered a long pair of leggings for as we head into winter. I went for a brisk walk around the neighborhood today, then came home and went on the elliptical for a bit. Not too long since my walk was about 40 minutes long.
My supplement seems to be helping some. I’m not having extreme hunger signals anymore. I think that’s what causes me to binge. I get super hungry (or think I’m super hungry) and then I just want to stuff my face.
Considering me and my sister’s birthdays are 4 days apart, and Halloween is coming up, I really need to exercise my butt off and make healthy eating choices in between all the junk!
A good tummy filler and not high in kcal is a CUPPA SOUP – I’ve just had one for lunch…. (with a slice of bread)
So when you’re craving mid afternoon, boil the kettle (at work) and stick a soup in your cup !!

good tummy filler and not high in kcal is a CUPPA SOUP
Soup in general is actual amazing diet food, because it makes you feel more full than regular food-the water that normally exits your tummy during a regular meal actually gets trapped in soup, so that you stay full off of water weight! (If you imagine a coffee filter-water gets through, coffee beans that are ground have air space(letting you feel hungry) and soup is a weird in between -it cant get throught and there is no air space -so you feel fuller for longer)
If you aren’t into cuppa soup, making your own is ridiculously easy, and seeing as you are all Bunny Parents I can guarantee you have vegetable drawers that are well stocked! It’s perfect for veg that is getting a little bit too old to be keeping!
Hehe, guilty as charged ^_^ Breintje gets the tops of 3-4 carrot every day, and we cook a lot of broth with all the excess carrots wilting away in the veg drawer.
I am fla.ber:ga.sted !!
I’ve just looked at the contents of my ‘real lemon’ lemonade I had yesterday in the car (no activity = minimal sugar!) – chosen as a conscious decision not to have sugar ridden Coke. (Diet/zero coke = YUK !!)
27 kcal – so far, great !
I saw 11g of sugar – not too bad…
But then, OMG ! OMG ! OMG !! (breathe breathe)
I saw it was per 100ml… and the bottle was 420ml!
So 46g – FOURTY SIX grams of sugar in the one drink !!! That’s more than in a Coke !!!! (And equal to 3x 4-finger kitkats which I would have enjoyed more!!)
THAT, my friends, is why the world is getting fatter !!
Be careful – be VERY careful when you’re looking at labels….

THAT, my friends, is why the world is getting fatter !!
….
That, and the fact it’s so easy to eat a 2-portion lasagne by oneself when the 2 portions are in the same packet !
(I forgot to stop half way) ![]()
Food should be packaged in single serving portions. But not hungry orphan portions. Sensible human bean portions. ![]()
But not hungry orphan portions. Sensible human bean portions.
I dislike those ‘serves two’ serving guidelines, because Im not sure in what world those people live but they must be perpetually starving. There is no way half of those are anywhere near accurate!
I’ll eat a package of ready rice by myself. Says it serves 2, but it feels like one and a half servings. =\
My issue is I tend to “deprive” myself a little too much, of food during the day, so then when I have a long evening and I’m still up at 11:30 pm (uhhhhggg literally right now), I won’t be able to control myself, and I’ll binge eat tons of carb rich food (bread, cheese, cake, chips, pasta etc.). =/
Mmmmm, pasta……
I was told if I start to want to eat chocolate then drink a low fat hot chocolate, like slim fast or options, but the body tells you what it needs.
I lost a bit of weight because I couldn’t eat because I was ill, but most of it is fluid retention, I wish it would go away.
Yesterday we jogged the mile. 9:02 mins. ….
I went to a friend’s place for dinner tonight. We had roast lamb with veggies… then apple pie with icecream…. then chocolate while playing board games. Whoops! ![]()
Resse that’s really good. That’s a healthy steady jog….. keep it up for 6 miles (10k) and i’ll be really impressed!!!
Az – lol yes whoops. It all happens so quickly… ![]()
Okay guys, I need to beat last year’s time at the 5k. I try to remind myself that I was 25 pounds heavier, much more out of shape, and had a small dog who couldn’t run the entire way, but it took 45 minutes!
*gasp* What do you guys think would be a reasonable time to run 3 miles? (It’s December 3rd, so the trails will be icy, if not covered in snow, so that should probably be taken into consideration as well)
If it’s icy, don’t run. Simple !
If it’s snow I’d say…. 36 mis 30 secs….. ![]()
Wow, these aquafit sessions are more intense than I thought… In the water you seem practically weightless, and it’s really easy to move your joints and muscles. I decided to go full-out yesterday because I had a really good day.
We do 5 minutes of warming up, 15 minutes of exercise in the water, and afterwards there are 10 minutes in which you can do what you want. I’m trying to build some muscles again, so I decided to do a couple of laps of front crawls and back crawls. Woke up with the worst muscleache I had in two years. Totally worth it though, dear lord, am I out of shape…
I haven’t gotten as much exercise as I would have liked this week. I think I tore a muscle when we moved that car. My shoulder hurts pretty bad. =\
Ouch, best let a doctor or a fysio check that out. The sooner the better, because if it needs treatment it’s most effective when started soon after the injury.
Unfortunately I haven’t been able to work out all week. This head cold has had me groggy ALL day. I feel like I got run over by a truck. Then the truck reversed over me just for good measure. The good thing is that since I’m not going out I get to spend more time with Cinder.
Undeterred by my previously failed attempt at exercise and general healthiness, I once again chose to get out and be more active with some friends.
At the time it all seemed fine, but the next few days I felt really uncomfortable in my breathing.
Bruised ribs
That’s what you get for trying ![]()
I give out about Sampras being a clutz and a disaster bunny, but I’m now sure he’s just taking after me!
Granted Im now under orders to be lazy (Well he said take it easy-but I read that as stay in bed and watch tv for the foreseeable future) ![]()
Haha, sorry to hear that, Dface. I think if being clumsy was something that can be passed off to pets, my poor Cinder would be in a LOT of trouble.
Ellie – It feels better now. We were just pushing way too hard. Stupid car.
JP – Yeah, nothing makes you not want to exercise like being sick. Hopefully you’ll have more energy soon.
Just went for a 40 minute brisk walk through the neighborhood with my husband. I’ll probably try to get out again tomorrow. The weather is really nice.
Sounds soooooo lovely. I miss fall. It’s my favourite season.
It’s nice right now, but it won’t last long. It has been a roller coaster for the last few weeks. I hate it. =\
Well done LBJ – try to do that as often as you can – but 40 mins brisk is going some
– 15 mins per day and you’ll be as fit a fiddle in no time. ![]()
I’ve gotten like no exercise this week lol. I’m on my feet walking around a lot throughout the day, but I wouldn’t count that as “exercise” =/
I went out this morning. It was eerie outside. It was kind of warm, but it was foggy. Then the wind picked up while I was out there. I went around the neighborhood. I forgot my watch, but I think I was out there for 30 minutes or so.
Well done
Brisk walks are a great way to boost your metabolism. It very injury-safe as well.
They say you have to do something 19 times for it to become a ‘habit’…. so keep on going LBJ ! Well done !
It’s always good to have a circuit so you know how much you’ve done each time, and happy when its completed.
(it’s nice to mix it around too….)
