  Since my baby buns aren’t spayed yet (too young), they have some hella strong urine smell. Their poop don’t smell at all especially since I changed their hay back to timothy and they started pooping less uneaten extra smelly cecal already. BUUUUUTTT, what litter do you guys use??? The current one I use is recycled paper based litter (it’s not yesterdays news cat litter) that I got from PetCo, but I feel like they don’t lock in much odor :/
  I used puppy pads to line the bottom of my litter box in an effort to reduce odor but that hasn’t been helping either The bunnies themselves don’t stink at all. It’s just the litter box that gives my room a funny odor sometimes and when its combined with the strong smell of hay, its kind of a nightmare for somebody who has a sensitive nose like me. I clean out their cage and litter box everyday (really hard for somebody like me who has back issues).
  I like the smell of hay but i really really REALLY need help controlling the smell of their urine….. it’s driving me nuts. I’m going to spay them in 4-6 weeks as recommended by the Vet, but until then please give me advice on some good litter that I could use to control this odor.

  Yes, wood stove pellets are fantastic! They are adequate for odor control, but the best thing is that since they are so inexpensive, you can change the box more frequently without feeling like you’re wasting money! A large 40 lb bag usually goes for about $5-7 dollars. I buy 3 bags or so and it lasts a full year with one bunny.

  You would buy them from a hardware or tractor supply store. They are wood pellets that are used as fuel in pellet stoves. Look for the kind that don’t have an accelerant added.

  I buy mine at Lowe’s or Home Depot (bc those are our local hardware/home improvement stores). They come in big 40lb bags. I’d suggest calling your local stores and asking if they have them. They are the wood pellets that people use in wood burning stoves. In some areas they are seasonal though! I buy them once a year (in the winter) bc stores don’t typically stock them in warmer months.
  
  Another alternative is horse stall bedding if you have tractor supply stores near you.

  You can also buy wood pellet cat litter, which is essentially the same thing as wood stove or horse stall pellets but more expensive because it’s sold as cat litter.

  I wish I could get them spayed sooner so the smell would go down and their litter habits would be more consistent, but gotta wait until the buns are at a healthy age.
  I don’t know why they stink so much. The bunnies themselves don’t smell but their litter boxes can make me go *gag reflex. Now that I have 20lbs box of timothy hay in my room, everything is exacerbated so I need to find a different place to store their hay. I’ll try those wood stove pellets though. Sounds like they work.
  My room is starting to smell like a funky farm and my parents would be mortified when they come get me at my college housing complex if my room smelled weird.
  I actually have to let my friend (who also has a bunny) bunny sit them for a bit at her house because I need to go on vacation with my family and get checked up on various medical issues. So I was hoping I can get rid of their scent by the time I leave my dorm room so when I come back (after picking up my rabbits from my friend of course), my room doesn’t smell funny. By then, I would have to wait just a lil longer to schedule their spay

  I use pine pellet kitty litter. I’ve had my bunny pee in his outside litterbox with only carefresh and puppy pads and OMG, it was stinky! I bulked up on Fline Pine at Walmart lol. My attic is full of them. It really does wonders!

  I use Yesterday’s News cat litter. I only buy the original, nonscented one. It is sold at PetSmart in 30 lb bags for $19.99 (in Canada) but is very often on sale for $16.99. If you sign up for their emails, you will get coupons for $10 off a $30 purchase- buy two bags, on sale and use the coupon and you’ll have 60 lbs of litter for $24. plus tax.
  This stuff absorbs the urine so well that there is NO smell. My rabbit’s cage is in my living room and no one can believe he is even there.
  Last point: Never buy clay litter, especially the clumping type- very dangerous since rabbits tend to chew their litter and clay cannot be digested. I love the fact that the newspaper pellets are both made from recycled paper, and can also be recycled.
