Hi! I adopted my bunny, Ellie, around June-July of last year. I adopted her from the Humane Society so, they had some background information on her- especially since she was given up by a previous owner after 3 years. She was born without a set of ears. Apparently, she was bonded with another rabbit and after that rabbit died, she became very depressed. They also told me she doesn’t like dogs, but is okay with cats. She’s always been a very anxious, fearful, even sometimes aggressive rabbit since I got her. She had no health problems during the few months of caring for her. She was very distant though, so I decided to try bonding her with a rabbit in a foster home. They didn’t take to each other right away but they took to each other very, very well for their first meeting. I wasn’t able to adopt the male rabbit due to my father, so I left it alone. I had to leave for a treatment center for eating disorders due to my personal struggle with anorexia, depression and anxiety around the beginning of February. I was very, very hesitant to leave my bunny with my dad but I had to. I came back at the beginning of this month and made of horrific discovery of my rabbit invested with fleas. As soon as we could, we put Advantage for kittens on her and vacuumed, washed linens, etc. What I’m currently concerned about is a few things. She has a bald spot on her neck and white, flaky stuff that looks a lot like dandruff. She’s also covered in flea dirt and I spotted 2-3 fleas on her since giving her the treatment about a week or two ago. She lunges at me, scratches and bites linens when she’s upset, grunts, sometimes even nips if she’s very distressed. She won’t let me near her without panicking/dashing away. She won’t let me groom her and it’s an absolute struggle to clip her nails. (She squirms violently and her feet shake very badly) The behavior has been going on since before the fleas as well, I just wasn’t proactive about it. I honestly don’t know what to do. I really need help. Thank you.
