It’s lucky that I check on Chomondeley every morning before I leave the house… because today, when I went to see him, he was not in his X-pen. Anywhere. I freaked out…. he’s never escaped before and he could get hurt easily, or slip behind couches and tables. I started calling, “Where is he? Where is he?” To myself, before I saw some grey fur behind another X-pen that I have propped against the wall. He was squashed under there and I freaked again, grabbing him and pulling him away- I was so worried he had hurt himself. I was so angry and scared for him. I checked him over, doesn’t seem like he’s hurt. I think that there was a little gap between the wall and the X-pen that he must’ve squeezed through, so I closed it up with bricks and attempted to make everything safe. However, I don’t really know how he managed to get out. Do you think he could’ve jumped? I have a little shelf for him above his hay bungalow, but it doesn’t seem like he could jump out, and I’ve never seen him hop up onto the shelf…. I’m still freaking out. Please help!! Thank you!!

How high is the x-pen? I know of a rabbit that was able to clear 48 inches. Mine is 36in so I cover it at night with a blanket or for when I go out.

          How big is your bun?

Jumping height depends on size, age, and general laziness of a bunny. Hehe! Some bunnies can clear 36, even 48 inches. My buns have a baby gate that is maybe 30 inches tall. They have never once tried to jump over it.

Is the x-pen just sitting on the floor? Could he have squeezed underneath it?

I measured it, and Crysta can almost clear 30 inches. I thought it was only 24, but she used a hidey house, and even with that, it still measures 30 inches. So yeah, it’s definitely a possibility that Chomondeley made it over the ex-pen.

Pippi managed to jump over our settee, front to back, which is a massive jump. He launched himself from the floor, barely touched the seat of the settee with the tips of his paws, to give a bit extra lift, and flew over the back, thankfully landing fine. He weighs 2.6kg, so not a big bun.

The first time I saw him pull this stunt of was week or so before he was due to be neutered, needless to say the vet said to make sure he couldn’t access the settee again til he was thoroughly healed!

Thanks for responding you guys! The X-pen is taller than Chomondeley, but I’ve pushed bricks up to the sides so it stays put, and I was wondering if he could’ve hopped onto the brick then jumped out. (He’s a jumper; he hopped on top of a huge cardboard box.) Chomondeley is a 4-month-old Mini Lop, and getting bigger all the time. I don’t think he could’ve squeezed underneath the X-pen…
