Hi everyone, my bun Francis is an unneutered, male,5 month old holland lop.
I have had him for about 3 months and he has never had a huge problem
with it. Please note that he is not confined to his cage all day, I have
his pen set up where his cage us open for him to freely enter and leave
at his own will. I then have a large pet pen surrounding that area. Plus
I take him to the garden 3-4x a week. He has LOTS of stuff to play with.
A cardboard castle, multiple tubs of paper and ones with dirt to dig in.
But he is absolutely OBSESSED with digging the hard plastic at the bottom
Of his cage. There was a point in time were he had snuck back there a few
times and I found that he was chewing the wall. So I completely blocked off
access behind his cage were he squeezed in. And ever since then, he’s been
digging. I tried washing the area with white vinegar. But it doesn’t help.
It also seems that he mostly does it really early in the morning. Like
6am to 9 am. It’s not the end of the world. But I’d like to know why he does it.
I’ve also tried spending even more time with him. I sit in his pen with him
for hours and do my homework and snuggle with him. Everyday i make time to
groom him. Any ideas on what I can do? Or why he would be doing this?
        Thanks for reading!
        Haley

Give him a cardboard box, he will make a noise but he can dig in that, put some hay in it, I did that with Olly, it worked, Bunnies love to dig and chew, walls for some reason are great, but Olly has stopped chewing walls, so we. (Me and Olly) are decorating soon, but he knows not to chew and scratch walls, I did put cardboard against where he chewed and got fed of it, I did have a hole in my floor and he would try and dig it up, so someone fixed that and he doesn’t bother with it now.

BTW have you checked his claws? When I got Olly his claws were too long and the vet thinks that is why he was digging a bit too much, he also didn’t do it as much, Olly goes to have his claws done at the Vet because I can’t hold him and I’m disabled and wouldn’t want to get the clippers stuck in my hand and hurt him if I had a back spasm or something.
