So after the vet visit, getting his tear duct flush and some bloodwork; the vet sent us home with eye drops, metacam and Enrofloxacin. On the Enrofloxacin it says to monitor him if he looses appetite and change in stool. I gave him his dose last night which is every 12 hours. I had to give it to him not exactly the 12 hours because I just came back from school. But I notice he only nibble on some food, less droppings, still drinking water. He seems sad, just laying down in the corner. I offer him lettuce but he doesn’t seem interest. I would call my vet but they aren’t open now. I plan to in the morning. I don’t have money to take him to the emergency, so hoping that is it normal maybe because I didn’t do the exact 12 hours or if I should stop. I’m very worry mom for my bun. He is a Rex and he is 7.5 years old. Thanks .

Enrofloxacin is an antibiotic so it can mess with an animal’s gut bacteria as well by killing some of the good stuff off, it is a side effect. It can affect appetite and consistency of poop. Maybe your vet can recommend a probiotic?
I would call your vet about it once they open to make sure it isn’t serious or possibly part of his illness. In the meantime I think keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn’t stop eating or pooping for an entire day or more (thats when it might be an emergency).

I don’t think doing exactly 12 hours is a big deal I have given my pets antibiotics like 10 hours apart before because of my schedule. Sometimes I accidentally miss a dose, oops. I wouldn’t go too far off 12 hours though…

It is often advised that a probiotic, such as Bene-Bac Plus, be given along with any antibiotics that a rabbit is taking. The Metacam can sometimes suppress appetites, so that, along with the antibiotic, could be a reason that he doesn’t want to eat much. Make sure that you have a good selection of all of his favorite greens on hand. Some vets give B-12 shots to give rabbits energy and to stimulate their appetite.

I hope that your bunny will feel better soon.

Update: Last week, Koko, my bun, is back normal. Yay! I called the vet the day after and she recommended to stop the medication, and he began to eat, drink and poo.

Today he is at the vet for surgery for his teeth trim and possible extraction.
