        Hello all…

So, I think my little girl is a boy! Not a girl at all actually…  I was playing with her/him the other day and I went to check for poopy butt and I ended up seeing these 2 tan looking… bumps on each side of bunny’s private area!  I was told by my vet bunny was a girl.  I tried to get a better look and flip bunny over but bunny really hates being picked up and I just couldn’t do it by myself without the potential risk of bunny hurting himself.  I can get a really good look when he is flopped and it most definitely looks like testes to me.  It’s not round like other mammals though? It is sorta pointy?? Looks like an upside down “V” sorta… Is that normal or is something very wrong?  When I thought he was a she, I was going to get bunny spayed due to health reasons.  Bunny will be going on 5 months next week and so far he shows no hormonal behavior other than circling but I think that’s just goofing around rather than courting.  He is super cuddly and so affectionate.  Shows zero aggression.  Is it absolutely necessary for males to get neutered?  Or can I just let him be?  I can’t really find anything on the net about health risks of not neutering a male, only health risks of not spaying females.  Does anyone live with an intact male rabbit? Would he spray without the presence of a female bunny to seduce?

        Thanks all!

Neutering males is done for behavior and pregnancy prevention, not health. 5 months is pretty young still, so it is possible he will develop problem behavior, such as spraying,in the next few months. If you plan to get another rabbit in the future, it is a good idea to have him neutered while he is still young and healthy. If he never develops problematic behavior and you have no plans for another bunny then you can skip the neuter.

I wouldn’t have described healthy testes as “pointy” but they aren’t round ball or like most other mammals testes. They are long ovals. Also, they are not held together in a single dangly scrotum, they are separated to the sides of the genitals. They are sort of angled. The appearance of them varies depending on temperature and mood. They can even be sucked completely up into bunny’s body and disappear when bunny feels they are threatened. (I have seen Porky’s testes numerous times, but our vet never has.)

            Thank you for your reply.
I just rechecked while he was flopped. I was able to spread his legs and he actually let me take a better look. It’s not pointy. Earlier today when he was in a squatted position, they appeared to be pointish and I got quite alarmed as I’ve never seen anything like that before….but now I see them as 2 long ovalish shaped ones. He has one on each side.
Thanks so much for your help!
