a few days ago I posted here concerned about my boys behavior, and I got lots of tips and reassurance from other bunny parents- for that I thank you all!
I’ve got a few updates now about his behavior. His cage is on the floor so in the morning/afternoon when I get up, I open his door and put a barrier in front of my room door so he won’t get out of the room. I let him have free range of the room for most of the day, until things settle down in the evening and I’m getting ready to get in sleepy bed mode. Now that I’ve been letting him out EVERY DAY- which I didn’t used to do in fear of how him and the cat get along, he’s getting very comfortable with our routine, and the room as well as me being around while he’s doing his thing. He now flops down in more open spaces of the room, and not just under things. Today I was doing some sewing on the floor (I’m making a duvet cover) and he flopped down under my bedside table right close to where I was sitting and let me pet him while he was laying down without even flinching away! I was super happy. He seems to have gotten more comfortable around me
he’s more okay with me touching him while he’s exploring too, and when I walk near him or by him, he doesn’t bolt away!
Still hates being picked up though, of course- I haven’t been doing it at all really, because I’m trying to get him comfortable with me. I had to yesterday because he got stuck inbetween my bed and the wall, and I pet him in my lap for like 5 seconds and he went and angrily loafed under my bedside table for 15 minutes. So I’m just gonna leave it for a while.
I’m also trying to get him to eat more – he doesn’t seem to like any fruit or veg other than carrots and apples. He’s a bit on the skinny side, so I make sure to give him unlimited hay and pellets. I’m trying to find more greens and fruit he will like, I’ve tried bananas, strawberries, blueberries, cauliflower, cauliflower leaves, spinach, lettuce, and a few others, but he just chins it and runs away. He likes fresh carrot tops, but they’re only available in the summer when carrots are growing. I’m going to see if I can try fresh herbs like coriander and parsley, I’ve heard buns like those. Other than that, does anyone have any suggestions on anything to try? Is there any supplements I should be feeding him as well? Fresh produce is on the pricey side here these days because it’s winter, but I’d like him to have a more varied diet.
I’m very happy with the progress we’ve made together!
