As of last Friday, Butterscotch has passed away. He declined fast and unexpectedly. When I took him to the vet, she said it was something internally wrong with him and there was nothing else that could be done. He had no muscle and no fat, the start of diarrhea, and was bleeding from his urinary tract. He was fine the morning I left before work. I came home and he wasn’t. I only had him 5 months but I loved him. Cared from him when I got him from the breeder with an ear infection so bad the eardrum burst and he was left with a permanent head tilt. Changed his cage around so he was safe throughout his head tilt. Loved him even though he couldn’t be picked up like normal bunnies because it threw his equilibrium off. Now he is over the Rainbow Bridge with Reese’s.
The breeder I got her from breeds sick rabbits and is nasty when confronted. The rabbits are not protected, were so hungry whenever I saw them, and I was told about how sometimes the rabbits get out and the dogs (german shepards and golden retrievers) chase them around causing a stress head tilt. This is the second rabbit I have gotten from her that lost all fat and muscle and died unexpectedly. Reese’s was only 4 months old; Butterscotch only 9 months old. Be forewarned so you don’t have to go through the heartbreak and loss I have.
