Hi everyone! I got my Holland Lop Oliver just over a month ago and as a new bunny slave I have a few concerns.

        1. Is it normal for rabbits fur to change colour? When I got him he was a broken White and Black, but now all the black is start to turn brown. Is this normal?

        Before:

        After:

        2. He had a “mass” right beside his tail that went away in a week. Now there is a bald spot there and what looks like a scab. Is this something to be concerned about?

        3. While cleaning his cage I was refilling my spray bottle of 50/50 vinegar and water mix when Oliver ran up and nudged the bottle over and I ended up dousing his head in vinegar. There is now a little bump on his face but I can’t see if it irritated or not because of the fur and I’m not to sure what to look for in terms of pain reaction since when I’m holding him or close to him he always constantly licks me. Should this bump worry me or should I just wait a day or so to see if it goes away?

Hello there, fur colour changes are quite common with rabbits as they grow and shed into their adult coats. Some usually only get either lighter or darker for a year as they’re growing, but others change from year to year.

As for the lumps, it’s hard to know whether they’re an issue, the one by the tail could have been a tick or similar? Since he’s a new bunny anyway, I always recommend a vet visit for new pets anyway to make sure things are going well and there’s no obvious concerns.

In terms of a vinegar/water solution causing problems, I wouldn’t think so, but if it happens again I would wipe him off with a damp cloth

Could the “lump” by his tail have been his gland?

Also could a tail lump have been a small matt of hair? When we got out boys they had a lot of bum matts – and they are scary because they feel like lumps of skin. If it was and its gone because he’s managed to get it off that could have caused a scab..?
