Xrays yesterday showed that my sweet Marlee has a large blockage in her stomach.  We’re giving her sub-q fluids, metacam, and simethicone.  No motility drugs unless the blockage softens.  Any suggestions for getting her to drink more on her own (can’t add anything sugary to her water)?

Marlee is still somewhat active and is feisty as ever so we have hope.  Moshi is keeping her very well groomed and rarely leaves her side.

We could really use lots of healing and poop vibes!

        Thanks!

          (((((((Marlee)))))))

I’m so very sorry to hear this, JR. I have no tips for getting her to drink more that doesn’t involve anything that has sugar.

The only thing I have to suggest is perhaps syringing water into the side of her mouth. It’s not voluntary, but it will certainly help. Sending best wishes.

I heard a rumor that there has been poop. Is that true? How is Marlee now?

A vet would know, its difficult to find anything that has no sugar in, sugar free is packed full of chemicals, very dangerous for us too, but in fruit there are natural sugars, I was thinking fresh pineapple juice from a pineapple watered down?
Its good for if we can’t go too, dried pineapple is good for sore throats and tonsillitis in people,

Vibes for {{{Marlee}}} ! It’s good to read she is somewhat active. That will help.

If it’s not full obstruction, maybe oral re-hydration salts could help. They do contain glucose. That’s a ready form of energy for her if she’s not eating. So not a bad thing but do talk to vet first. Many of human re-hydration products have aspartame in them, so ideally, get something through the vet. You could even ask if making your own with just salts would be worthwhile. Salt will help water stay in the body longer. Rabbits often go for the saltiness too. Gooseman has been lapping at the paper towel I’ve used to mop up saline lately. There’s a thought… Maybe check with vet if okay to give bit of the SubQ saline orally??

If the impaction hasn’t softened and moved, she might need to get fluids intravenously. If you do go to gut motility drugs, Ranitidine might be the go. I only know it as Zantac, not sure on its other names, sorry!

                      Keep us updated.

Marlee is hanging in there. Friday was rough and we thought we were going to lose her. We went back to the vet on Saturday. Her stomach wasn’t quite as large and had softened a bit so the vet added Reglan to her meds. She has started pooping some which is great. She’s still fighting taking her meds. Not out of the woods yet but we have much more hope now for a recovery. Thanks for the vibes.

I’m so happy Marlee is doing better. If she is fighting the meds, then that is a good sign. That means she doesn’t feel so awful that she doesn’t want to put up a fight. Hopefully the meds will do their magic and she will continue to poop. I hate it when stuff like this happens over the weekend.

I’m glad to hear she’s doing better! Fighting meds is a good sign, I totally agree with LBJ. What you don’t want is a bunny who’s lethargic and can’t muster the strenght to put up a fight.

                            Sending her many continued-healing-vibes ((((((Marlee))))))

Thanks. She definitely hasn’t lost her attitude. I was down on my elbows and knees this morning trying to talk her into taking her meds like a big girl and got thumped at. Apparently Marlee does not want to be a big girl when it comes to anything in a syringe now!

What about Critical Care? I’m using that with extra water for Smokey since she has kidney disease and needs extra water. She loved CC so much she knows exactly what time I give it to her lol I’m not sure about sugar content though since the majority of it is crushed hay.

I’ve been following you and Marlee and your tummy troubles on Facebook – just wanted to give vibes over here on BB as well, to (((vibe))) as much as possible! I’m glad to hear she’s doing better.
