On Friday the 12th of Feb. My bunny’s got Spayed. They still are not using their litter box religiously and they have been litter trained since they were babies. they are 9 months old now. We got them a little over a week ago and they both have one bedroom to themselves to roam and play. Just until they get used to our hardwood floors. We do pick them up to cuddle with us on the couch to show love and groom them. they lay right on my chest. they are so comfy. They do not have accidents in our family room. If they do pee on the foam matts in their room, I do clean it up with the paper towel and put it in their litter box, also with the poop. then I wipe down the surface where they peed with a stain remover to get the smell off the floor so they don’t pee there again. I hope to get some answers.

        Thank You,
        Heather

Hay in the litterbox always makes my rabbits eager to use it. My rabbits are a tad older and desexed, but they will still leave occasional droppings around the box, and sometimes this happens if they suddenly jump out and pebbles pop out as they do so, haha. I have seen it happen. They also do this when I put a clean litter box inside, so I’m not sure if it’s a territorial thing or what, which is maybe what yours do when they pee. Yours are also healing after the surgery and they are most likely dealing with hormones, so I wouldn’t worry too much, unless it becomes a real big problem. It took about a month for my boy to stop humping the chihuahua’s or my leg, which was really funny, because my dogs are so low key around the rabbits. I think your rabbits need a bit more time, that’s all.

Because they were almost 9 months old when spayed, I’m assuming they were having regular pee accidents. It may take several weeks before you start to see improvements in their toilet habits. It takes roughly 4 weeks for all of the hormones to leave a rabbit’s system post spay/neuter, and those hormones would have likely been the reason they were regularly missing the litter tray. You are doing the right thing in how you are managing the messes, just give them more time and I’m sure you’ll see improvement.

What sort of stain remover do you use? You can also use a 50/50 water/vinegar solution.

I’m going to pick up some vinegar. It isn’t harmful to the bunnies right? and Right now I just have some carpet cleaner, it’s for urine too. Also they are chewing up the foam mats, but doesn’t look like they are eating any but I would like them to stat in good condition. they work great for cleanup . I just hopy no pee is getting in between the puzzle pieces. Do you know of any kind of spray that turns them off of chewing on the mats, the mats are all over the whole floor. Something safe for bunnies. I know I just have to be patient with their Litter training, it is just so frustrating LOL

              Thanks,
              Heather G.

Yes, white vinegar is safe for bunnies, and they don’t much like the smell of it either. You may be able to spray it on the edges of the puzzle mats to prevent them from chewing. I liked to use vinegar for pee messes because Bandit was a big floor licker and I didn’t want him licking up remnants of cleaning chemicals, however I’ve not used it on carpet so I’m not sure what rules apply there. Otherwise I have heard that some people use apple cider vinegar as a chewing deterrent (although I’ve also heard that some bunnies love it). Bandit used to chew on his puzzle mats, he just used to rip pieces off, and not ingest any fortunately.

They rip pieces off, but I would like to keep them nice and in tact. LOL they rip off the middle pieces that pop up off of the puzzle pieces, they aren’t flat. they are like a metal pattern. grey and are used mostly for exercise equiptment.

                  JUST LIKE THOSE ONES

And I hope they don’t like the vinegar taste. I can spray it on and wipe it dry all over but then that would be a lot of spraying, it covers the whole room, I thought to put down cardboard over the whole room over the puzzle pieces but then it defeats the purpose of buying the puzzle pieces, they weren’t cheap. lol

                    I NEED ADVICE!!!!

Kennys hutch is 2 parts, a little hidey hole which i put a brick in to keep her cool and then a playing area (also where food and water is), i figured out early what corner she preferred to litter in and i put a litter box there, she did poop and pee in it but she also did that everywhere else but mostly in the box, as she has gotten a little older she gets more bored (we give her a run every day to help that) but during the day when everyones out, she runs around the cage so much she always knocks the litter over and all the litter goes all over the cage and  it ends up smelling awful, i have now just stopped putting it in but i have to clean the cage almost daily!!

how do i stop her from knocking this over???
