Philomena has never been one for pets and cuddles and I do my best to respect that. I do steal pets from her once in a while because she’s just so darn cute. Well I broke a bunny mom rule and pet my darling while she was sleeping in her cage (she was just too darn cute). I made her aware of my being there by letting her sniff my hand so she knew that it was indeed her mummy that was coming in. She went back to relaxing and I pet her head a bit. Then something strange happened. She became more and more relaxed. Her eyes went shut and she began to purr and she let her head slowly fall into the “pet me position”. I continued the love and she began to fall asleep. My roommate came in and woke her up and I left her alone because she wanted to get up and move around.
I tried again later when she was lying on her side trying to sleep. She didn’t even get up from her position when I entered her playpen attached to her cage. I did the same thing and I got the same response. I let my hand rest on her shoulder very lightly (as though I was sleeping next to her) and she began to fall asleep again. I could even feel her twitch as she started dreaming.
My question is if anyone else has a bunny that does this or if Philomena is weird and only wants pets when shes sleepy. I know that a buns cage is their domain so invading it is often a no no but if she gets so relaxed and content when I pet her in her cage is it really a bad thing for her? When she is tired of me petting her she will push my hand out of her way and I leave her alone after that so I am trying to respect her while also getting some pets in too.
