I use wood pellet litter, the brand here in Australia is oz-pet but I’m not sure what the brands are overseas. I know that people in the USA often use horse stall bedding or wood stove pellets (the plain ones without any fuels added) as they are much cheaper to buy than branded wood pellet litter for cats or small animals, but they are essentially the exact same product.

I find it controls odor well, paper litter is paper litter, no matter the brand so you’re better off trying something different.

I use hardwood stove pellets, no accelerants. I compost the used litter.

My vet recommended using one called “Feline Pine”. I’ve liked it so far, seems to keep the odor under control.

We use aspen pellets or pine pellets along with carefresh. I was hesitant at first with the pine pellets because of pine causing liver disease in small animals but upon further research the pellet form removes all the oils that are bad. Her litter box is grated though so we don’t have the dust kicking issue. I believe all pellet form of litter turns into dust once wet but in my opinion it is the best type of litter for urine absorption and odor control. Also, the particular type of pine pellet litter I use is meant for cats and I noticed that it is cheaper and absorbs/controls odor far better than the litter meant for small animals.

Wood stove pellets (no accelerants, like Bam said). They are ~$5 at hardware or tractor supply stores. They control odor very well.

Aspen pellets have already been mentioned, but in case you are interested in those, one brand name is Aspen Supreme. It is sold at Petco.

Hardwood stove pellets no accelerants. I tried aspen shavings and paper litter. Nothing absorbs liquid AND odor like wood pellets. You have to use enough litter though. No good to use a small amount so that there is still liquid in the literbox. It must all be absorbed in order for odor control to work.

I use wood shavings and ive experimented that after 4 or 5 days the urine starts stinking.

I agree with the wood stove pellet recommendations. Paper products created a cesspool of yuck around my babies footsies in only one day. I use a brand of wood stove pellets called “Lignetics”, and it’s safe for rabbits, and costs $7 for a 40lb bag. It will turn into sawdust when peed on, but that’s because it’s doing its job. You can always place a screen or hay on top of the pellets to minimise mess. You may prefer “Feline Pine” because I found it to be too strong for my nose, so that may work better for masking an odour.

I find the oxbow straw based pellets “eco-straw” work really well, but they are expensive.

Oh, and I forgot to add, tossing a handful of hay over the litter also helps with odor. Especially handy if you can’t change the pan right away.

My bag just says “hardwood”.
