I have 5 Holland Lops that are all spayed and neutered and their sizes range from 2 lbs to 4.4 lbs. They are all 6 months to 1 year. Currently, I give them 1/3 cup per bunny of oxbow adult rabbit food, unlimited Timothy hay 1st or 2nd cutting and 1 cup of dark leafy greens per bunny every day. They are also let outside daily but don’t always stay out very long and sometimes I can’t get them in.

I googled dietary information and some sites say never give them broccoli and some give them plenty. Some say minimal parsley and Some say all they can eat. I went to the breeder that I got 4 of my buns from and she offered me suggestions and then some sites said never give them those things. Some sites say at least 3 cups of leafy greens per day………I should have never googled that cause now I think I have cancer. LoL

All my buns are healthy and their weight is stable but they do attack their fresh greens like I don’t feed them at all. I keep sugary fruits to a minimum and don’t feed them any prepackaged treats. Everything they eat is organic and fresh.

I guess I just want to confirm that I am feeding them a proper diet.

         Thanks

Your diet sounds fine.Though, mine get a lot of veggies, cause they are little piggies haha so probably closer to 4 cups between them.

The reason there are places that say feed broccoli and some say not to, is because it CAN give some bunnies gas. For parsley, there is some division over high oxalic acid foods and parsley is pretty high in it. Oxalic acid binds with calcium in the body to cause small crystals, that get ejected from the body in urine. It’s been linked to kidney stones and such in humans, as well as calcium deficiency in birds. I have never seen anything conclusive about not feeding it to bunnies though, mine do fine with it.

House rabbit society is generally a good source. A lot of things you find just googling are going to be from blogs and such, with no research or sources to back up any claims.

Yes, the HRS has a good list. Really, I wouldn’t worry about food that have more oxalates in them. As long as they aren’t the only veggies being fed, then it is fine for the majority of bunnies. That’s why I like the spring mix because it has a good ratio of veggies.

Everything else is fine. If you want to feed less pellets, you could up the amount of veggies. Mine get about 1/8 cup each of pellets and they are a Holland lop and a Jersey wooly.
