Happy new year, friends! Hope it’s been better than mine. I’m laid up with the New Years Plague for the second year in a row
at least I do’t have a fever this time, and I have a new set of cute bunny print sheets to rest and recover on lol. Lily’s still enjoying her Christmas alfalfa.
Happy New year Everybody!
Diamond– A lot of people get sick around this time, the stress from the holidays wears down our immune system.
I need to work on a New Year’s resolution. It’ll probably consist like “work out more, be healthy, get in shape, lose weight, train Tilly (rescue puppy) to not be afraid of new people, Keep fish alive,” ect.
Today was my sister’s birthday. She wanted a fish tank because I got one for Christmas, so me and my mom bought her a small 5 gallon. She opened it and was super excited, so we opened up the box to start setting it up and it was BROKEN. Like, a whole side was busted. We brought it back to the store to exchange it, but the other 5 gallon tank box was looking pretty beat up and had indents like it was handled poorly. We decided to just pay an extra 2 dollars and get a 10 gallon tank. We brought it home and you know the black rims on tanks? Well the bottom one had a pretty big chip in it (It was most likely a defect). It was kinda annoying but we decided to keep it since it still holds water (it’s more of a cosmetics thing) and isn’t that noticeable. But you’d think people would be careful with such a breakable item? IDK
Happy New Year, Diamond!
Moxie, I’m so sorry about the damage. It’s always so annoying when that sort of thing happens. They need to figure out who’s busting their inventory!
So we’ve entered into wild kingdom here. My Lucy is hitting four months now and Benni though neutered thinks she is irresistible. At least it’s not aggressive humping. She takes it all in stride though I swear I saw her roll her eyes when he mounted her backwards for like the billionth time.
Her spay is in early February I guess we’ll have some busy bunnies for a while.
LOL – “I swear I saw her roll her eyes when he mounted her backwards for like the billionth time”… !!! Bless him poor little chappie.
Years ago I saw a little dog doing that to a little beotch in the middle of a pub once, it was quite hilarious and the whole pub was watching them…. a bit perv really I suppose but it was the beotch’s face that made it so funny ! (And his confused face when he got down and tried again…)
LOL, animals really have no humility. I mistakenly thought that bringing a dog to meed my friend’s parents was a good idea. It went great until Bella (The Doggie) started humping their four year old…
Oopsie daisy
Moxie- Good luck with those, my resolutions never work out! I’ve stopped making them looooong ago.
That’s really a shame with your fish tank. It’s so frustrating when you buy something and you find out it’s broken when you open it. Especially when you’ve given it as a gift because then you feel bad for putting someones hopes up. :/
Muffinluv— Well I normally have a resolution WAY too long and I get overwhelmed and give up. I find it’s helpful to pick a couple easy things (like read a certain book) so you get motivated when you can check stuff off, and then 1 or 2 big things. ![]()
I’ve made a New Years resolution as well- “don’t worry.” LOL we’ll see how long I can hold that for! I’m a constant worrier… Ugh.
moxie- I’m so sorry about your fish tank… That must be horrible To get it as a gift for someone and then to discover it’s damaged. also, good luck with your new years resolutions! ![]()
CB – 3 mottos I live with now – – they’re very good bases to put a LOT of things into perspective :
=> “If you don’t ask, you don’t get” : ask with a smile and you’d be surprised…
=> “What’s the worst than can happen” ? : Really! Is it a life or death matter if you’ve forgotten the lemonade for tea with the in-laws ?
=> “What’s done is done and cannot be undone” : OK so you dropped a favourite coffee mug, it’s sad but its broken now, get over it !!
Hope that helps you ! :o))
Oh yes, I bought my CAT a treat ball for Christmas to put her food in as she eats too quickly.
Ok so she’s 13 and didn’t quite get the idea of it even after several hours / days on the floor with her showing her how to work it… so I thought oops waste of money buying that – then I thought, what, just what if I put raisins in it…..?
YAY !! Bun LOVES it…. chases it around and around, nudging with her nose, and had it worked out even before the first raisin had dropped! Mummy happy !!
How cute, Vienna! My Bam loves his treat-ball, he gets his pellets in it. But it took him 2,5 years to figure out how it worked. Then suddenly one day it dawned upon him.
“This too shall pass” is also a good “motto”. Useful during long painful spin classes f ex =)
So my mom finished my (crocheted) hat out of Moxie fur. I’ll have to post a pic. ![]()
Yes you definitely have to post a pic of the hat, Moxie!!!
Mine love their cat treat ball. I just put pellets in it and they roll it around.
Moxie – Yes, we must see this hat!
I’m just hoping to (finally) get my thesis done this year. There has been delay after delay (some my fault, some out of my control). It’s kind of sad thinking I finished my grad-level coursework in 2012. My thesis is the only thing standing in my way. o_O
I went to my office yesterday to do some data entry. It’s much easier when you have two monitors. I just have a tiny netbook at home, so data entry takes forever.
I wanted to go in today to do some data entry, but my husband said he didn’t want me to. He doesn’t like me being there with no one else there. He worries about me out there since there are a lot of sketchy people loitering in the area and there have been robberies at the surrounding businesses. So……. I picked up some of my surveys and brought them home. I’m going to try to do some on my tiny netbook.
I’m hoping to settle in and finish my course starting this week.
So I have learned something about bunnies and infections recently and now understand what the vet meant by ” that infection has been there for a long time. ” Rabbits have the ability to encapsulate an infection. I don’t know how long she has had that, but her fall caused it to rupture. I have only had her since the end of May 2015 and can’t ever recall witnessing signs of an ear infection. Yet Miss Josephine is as plucky as ever, still jumping off of things ? It’s not so much her face I feel bad about, but one of her ears is also paralyzed and has no movement. Kind of stuck half way up permanently.
I think I have one more week with these foster girls. I have really started to love black bunnies, they have sweet dispositions. The feral bunny will now take a cookie from my hand while hiding under her box, lol.
Was out trapping last night and saw the babies everyone is concerned about. Tiny little bunnies in below freezing temperatures
I hope eveyone has a great 2016 !
Yep, bunnies can do some strange things when it comes to infections. Unfortunately, that is part of why they can be so difficult to treat. What are you giving Josephine right now? Are you giving an anti-inflammatory?
I’ve gotten a little over 100 surveys entered in. *sigh* Only a few 100 more to go. People still baffle me, but I’m trying not to let it get to me. Like, for some reason, people are self-conscious about their age. For demographics, I have “year you were born”. I have quite a few surveys where everything else is completely filled out but they leave that question blank. Kind of annoying since age group is a common demographic to look at. I think I mentioned some of the notes I’ve gotten before. You know, where people are clearly very confused. One had written on it “this is a waste of taxpayer money” and I’m like, huh? How is my thesis a waste of taxpayer money? Oh well……
When I originally took her in the Dr said the infection had been there soooo long that she didn’t feel antibiotics would help. However Josephine was scratching at her ear so I went back for some otic baytril. No I stopped giving her metacam after I picked up the antibiotics. What is a bunny anti-inflammatory ?
If people don’t want to take the survey whey do the bother filling in the papers to begin with ?
Bunluv, Metacam is a bunny anti-inflammatory. It’s a NSAID (non-steroidal aniti-inflammatory drug) like the very widely used people-medicine diclofenac. It’s well tolerated by bunnies even for long-term use. We primarily use Metacam in rabbits for its pain-killing properties but it is an anti-inflammatory + it lowers fever as well (which is a factor one must consider since a sick bun can be hypothermic to begin with, and then the Metacam lowers the body-temp further.)
Poor little Josephine =(
LBJ, could you do the question with an age-span with suitable intervals? I think people are less reluctant to answer if it says f ex 35-45. People over say 25 never even want to think about how old they are =/
Oh okay thank you Bam. I gave her some this morning as she continues to scratch that ear despite the drops. I have a new concern as I have noticed the color or her ear changing. I’m concerned there is not enough innervation to that ear for blood flow as she has lost the pinkness of her inner ear.
r.jpgb.jpg)
They seem the same temperature, the darker one being a bit more stiff though.
If she loses blood supply to the ear, she will lose that ear. It happens with ear-injuries in bunnies, f ex when they get their ears badly bitten by another rabbit.
What to look out for is of course signs of infection. Wet gangrene means she needs vet care and probably amputation of the ear, to healthy tissue. Dry gangrene will make the ear necrotise and fall off in an “orderly manner”, and that’s the best case scenario when you’re dealing with ischemic tissue. (You might know all this, buit perhaps someone else reading doesn’t know, so I write it anyway.)
NSAID might help against swollen tissue, and that in turn reduces the pressure on the nerves so they can function as they should, so I think you should keep up the Metacam. Medirabbit says “Long-term use (of Meloxicam) appears to cause little adverse effects in rabbits”. http://www.medirabbit.com/Safe_medication/Analgesics/safe_analgesics.htm
(((((Josephine)))))
No I didn’t know any of that
Now I’m in tears. All of this due to a misplaced piece of cardboard which caused her fall.
Her ear is so tiny I can’t see in it. The only outward sign of problems is the darkening of the ear. She continues to scratch with the Baytril but not after the metacam dose.
I really wish my vet had not decided to leave for six weeks ! She seems more relaxed and stretched out on it so I will continue. Unfortunately it is the rescues medicine so I will need to look into having a vet prescribe some, her dose is only one drop ( .08 )
I have noticed she has begun sneezing in the last 24 hours. When one thing goes awry in a rabbit it seems to snowball ! Poor delicate creatures ![]()
According to that article she could have .1 as she is slightly over 1 kg.
Thank you for the vibes, I think she will need them ![]()
Don’t beat yourself up about it BL – if it hadn’t have been the carboard, it may have been something else later on, or a bump or whatever.
There was no way of you knowing.
She’s getting the undivided attention now and the care she needs, so she’s a very lucky bun.
Keep us posted and someone much more medical than I will be able to help – as you well know
(((((Get Well Vibes!!)))))
I totally second Vienna, do not beat yourself up about that accident, because accidents do happen and there’s just no way a human can prevent them all. Josephine has the best bunny-mommy and she’s getting the best care. And even if she should loose one external ear, which is not at all certain since you’re saying the ear isn’t cold, she’ll still be a beautiful bunny. As a house-bunny she doesn’t need to locate the whereabouts of predators and she won’t have to thermoregulate in high temperatures.
Medirabbit is a trustworthy source of bunny medicine. My vet goes by those dosages. Buns need higher doses of Metacam per body weight than f ex dogs, buns metabolize Metacam faster.
Oh no, Bun Luv, I wasn’t trying to upset you. Hopefully I didn’t. The reason I asked about an anti-inflammatory is because you have been talking about the paralysis not getting any better and sometimes it improves when the swelling is controlled by medication. Metacam is relatively safe and well-tolerated, as Bam said. I don’t know what is in the ear drops you’re using. They don’t have anything besides an antibiotic?
If the skin is changing color, but there is still adequate blood flow, then it could be due to nerve damage. Peripheral nerve damage can actually cause changes in skin color and texture in humans. I suppose that might be true for rabbits too.
Yeah, so I can’t exactly change the birth year question now. LOL I’m done with surveys. I’m just entering them in now. It was birth year so that way we could find our own natural breaks in age groups. I agree though Bam, people are more likely to say they are 25-34 instead of saying they are 34.
And yes, Bun Luv, I don’t get it. Why bother filling out the survey? Why bother sending it back? They have to go through the trouble of mailing it, you know.
Got our fish!
They’re SO cute and SOOO tiny! My sister got a little betta fish and I got 2 goldfish. A black moor (HE IS SO TINY AND SO CUTE!) and a fantail (Who’s the cutest little pig). I was also going to get an Oranda, but there was a dead one in the oranda tank and the others were eating it. I didn’t want to risk bringing an illness into my tank. So I settled for not getting one. I’ll be posting pics soon, although it’s dark and the lighting is terrible. My sister decided to name her Betta fish “Bubbles” although I’m waiting to name mine until I know they won’t die.
We also stopped at bath and body works (driving 2 hours to get fish, might as well go and “smell” lotion). They were having a great deal where a lot of their body spray/lotion/body wash/soaps ect. were 75% off (so like 3.50 when it’s normally 14).
I bought “Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte” unltra shea body cream, and “Coconut Lime Breeze” lotion. I was so upset because I could barely smell anything though since I’m sick. Good thing though, I probably would of spent all my money before we got to the fish! My mom bought “Moonlight Path” Lotion and Ultra shea body butter. My younger sister got a body spray and cooling lotion. I don’t remember exactly what was the smell. It was something to do with lemonade. My Older sister got the same latte one as me and then “Perfect Autumn Day” ultra shea body cream. That one smells good, I was going to buy it but I thought Maybe she’ll share? LOL
So we got quite the haul! LOL
((((Vibes))))
No worries LBJ I was more worried about Josephine losing an ear and not due to her appearance, but any pain involved for her. Since then I’ve decided to take her to the other rescue vet to have her checked out tomorrow. Interestingly enough the lady who runs the rescue also mentioned the pigment issue. Since her ear is still soft ( not quite as soft as the other one due to the nerve damage ) and shiny that is likely the issue, whew !
Thank you VB I’m trying not to and to be honest this little girl is certifiably nuts ! I thought rabbits liked traction ? I had the Christmas tree box lined up under an end table with a rag carpet on top. She would leap from the arm of the couch type chair in the living room, on to the table and surf across the table on the carpet onto the Christmas tree box….I have since taken that scenario apart. No more flying bunny, thank you.
Thank you Bam for the information and I will try not to beat myself up. This rabbit literally believes she can fly..
LBJ..some people have to much time on their hands or have a need to express their frustrations out somehow. Goodness knows the abuse the telephone surveyors endure.
The lady at the rescue believes Josephine could have a systemic infection and should be on a different antibiotic so we will see tomorrow. She gets a million kisses from me a day because since the incident with her face BB chins her ear but doesn’t seem to groom her anymore ? Maybe it’s the smell of the medication.
Tonight I was out trying to rescue some rabbits and there was a call to come and pick up some week old babies in a burrow in someones yard ? She was worried they’d eat her flowers..
and thank you everyone for the vibes ! xoxo
I think we should have a little BB survey oursleves, to find out age ranges on here….
I’m thinking it’s more in the ‘older’ range seeing the way people talk and write (and spell!) like REAL grown ups (lol), but then little sentences or phrases make me think maybe not everyone is all that old…. PS: when I say older, I don’t mean old! LOL – I suppose I mean over 40 ish (SHOCK HORROR, ancient !)
and of course no real ages and no names, certainly for the minors…. we could say under 20 to cover all of the super young – lol!
Just thought it could be interesting…
Well I’ll be 52 shortly and I can honestly say most of the women I know are 50 + also
.jpg)
I once saw a thread on here with pictures of members which I personally thought was nice, so I’ll add that also.
Yeah I saw that thread also, and we could fill out questions about ourselves (nothing personal, just like “what’s your favorite color?”) so we could get to know each other a bit. (Just a reminder, minors can’t post photos of themselves)
BunLuv – We just want little Josephine to get better. =) You’ll have to update us on what the vet says. I’m guessing the color change is related to the nerve damage, but you never know. That’s why it’s good to have a vet take a look.
Funny you should say that. Just judging by the birth years in general, I’d say a lot of the participants do have a lot of time on their hands. I guess some just decided this would be a good way to vent their frustrations. I hate to break it to them, but telling me I’m wasting their tax dollars isn’t going to help them much. Mostly because their tax dollars were in no way used to fund my thesis. LOL
Thank you ! She has an appointment for 11:30 tomorrow morning. Such a helpful little girl helping me clean their room today lol.
I hope Wooly is recovering well
I can’t believe they took the time to write it and THEN mail it ? Guess one can never tell about people.
BunLuv, keeping my fingers crossed for little Josephine at the vet tomorrow. Get well now, girl!
BL – And you don’t look a day over 30 !! lol
Thank you VB that picture hides my wrinkles well, lol
Thank you Bam ! Someone was doing serious bunny 500’s this morning while I was in the basement tending to the fosters, probably BB though.
Oh man, ugh! Sophie is showing symptoms of snuffles. Her sneezing sounds mucousy. Which means Bam is exposed since they live together.
So little princess pretty pants ( Josephine ) still has an ear infection. Ugh when he took the thing they look at ears with out it was covered in pus…ewww.
Continue on with the drops and in a week or ten days come back for them to be flushed.
This was one of the rescues vets, I really like him. There was another lady with me who asked what the importance of good teeth was..WELL..that started a conversation including props showing misalignment etc. I had the woman who runs the rescue on speaker phone..should of hung up and called back .lol..
No necrosis, ear looks pink. If anything the discoloration is dried medication I believe he said ? I think some may be the scratching also.
I can relax now. I think she is getting used to travelling, she was eating hay while on the table in the coffee shop, in her carrier.
Hi everyone my name is ShariLeigh and I just joined the group. I am excited to be here! I am in the middle of googling runny nose to death as I just noticed my Slurpee girl is a little wet. Anyway I ca,r across this group. Oh. And I am al out 30 since I see some talking about age 🙂
Poor baby. I hope Josephine gets better soon. What ear drops are you using? The vet gave me ear wash formulated to dry things up. She laced it with Baytril though. We thought that would work better than an oral antibiotic since it has a hard time making it from the blood to the ear. We wouldn’t have done it if his eardrum had ruptured. You have to watch out for that.
Wooly is about as good as he gets. LOL He will always have an on and off stuffy nose, unfortunately. His ear has been much better though. The vet wants me to maintain it by doing the ear wash once or twice per week.
Hi SharliLeigh and welcome tio the forums!
BunLuv, that vet sounds great, I’m so glad her ear had no necrosis, just dried meds on it! Yay!! But the pus is certainly not yay.
You do look great on your pic btw. I agree, not a day over 30 =)
NBO, your Bam has been exposed, but not all buns are sensitive to the bacteria causing sniffles. Rabbits often, or some say always, carry those bacteria in their noses and most never get sick. Keeping my fingers crossed for them both.
Hi ShariLeigh !
He seems quite good and very informative. He also didn’t charge because he said we are angels for taking care of the rescues bunnies !
When there he showed me how to put the drops in by holding the ear tip, putting the drops in and then pressing down on the base of the ear to shut and open it creating a vacuum effect to suck the medicine in.
LBJ I was prescribed Baytril Otic on January 28 so I should continue that for another 10 days and then have them flushed. He said I can leave her on the Metacam also.
Thank you Bam
I was hoping others weren’t so shy lol..but I suppose I understand internet anonymity. It’s just nice to know who one is talking to ![]()
On another note, the rescue trapped a bunny at the auto mall today that was lactating. So a few people spent hours digging and using a drain camera to find the babies ! Happy to report they found 5 of them about 2 weeks old. Not sure what they are going to do with ten new babies ?
They were having issues finding nipples etc for the first five !
Maybe I will get to foster some babies in the future ![]()
My ugly mug is already on a photo somewhere with me holding Zoubidoo the megarabbit… let’s just say, mid forties !! lol
BunLuv, I’m so impressed with your rescue. It’s so heartwarming that there are people who care so much about bunnies. There’s nothing like it here. There’s plenty of cat-rescues though.
I feel joy being associated with this rescue every day and thank you Bam.
I tried attaching the picture of the wee little face that popped up on the camera they put down the burrow hole but for whatever reason I can’t get it to show up ?
So here is the link to the entire story !
https://www.facebook.com/Rabbitats/?fref=photo
Josephine may begin another antibiotic as the lady at the rescue feels we should be more aggressive with her treatment.
.jpgResize.jpg)
After the vet visit
She is becoming quite the traveler ! She flopped this morning, best sight in the world.
This city started one of those ” Cat ” cafes in December and ran out of cats to adopt and closed for a few days ? Mind you they only accessed the SPCA. So many more cat rescues they could have utilized in this area.
The thoughts of a bunny cafe has been noted but to be honest adopting a bunny is much more involved than a cat. The awareness of a bunnys daily living needs, the realistic ones aren’t well known so education would be necessary.
LBJ I’m glad Wooly is feeling better
I wouldn’t know how to do an ear wash.
Ugh can I get everything in one post…my apologies.
VB I seriously doubt your mug is ugly
I don’t recall seeing the picture anywhere ?
Here’s a pic of my Moxie wool hat! It’s SOOO soft!

Moxie, awesome hat!!! Is it mixed up with lambswool or is it just Moxie hair? (It’s so light in color). Next year or so maybe she can knit a pair of wrist-warmers for you. Wrist-warmers are great in cold climats + they’re pretty small so they don’t require a lot of yarn. Did you send the fur out to be spun or did your mum do that too?
BunLuv, how good to see her flopped out like that! What antibiotics will you be trying next? I read a bit about azithromycin, it’s effective against bordetella but not pasteurella. Could the rescue vet do a culture of the ear-goo?
Bam— It’s pure Moxie hair. Her wool is light gray (the wool is always lighter than the rest of the bun. A black bun produces gray wool, a dark brown bun produces more of a cream color, ect.). My mother spun the wool herself on a drop-spindle and than crocheted it. ![]()
What a clever Mummy….. and how SOOOOOOOFT it must be !! And probably really lightweight !!
She’ll be getting orders soon from the rest of the BB family !
BL – well I can’tt find the photo, NO idea whether it was in a photo thread, a chat thread, or another thread, or even which month….?
I was holding Zou in my arms, legs up in the air (HER legs, not mine !!).
Her head was at the same level as mine and her bum level with my waist… LOL she’s a long bunny – and basically just looked like a huge fluffy toy!
Vienna I’m almost positive it was in the December thread. The chat or picture one I’m not sure which
<3 Josephine
Moxie that is so awesome!
Yeah so I’m at work. I grabbed a package of apple slices for lunch cause I’m lazy. I was sitting at my desk snacking on them when I thought they smelled a little odd. Huh. Then I see down at the bottom a very brown, mushy slice that smelled ferment-y. Eww. Nice to know that after I had eaten quite a few slices.
FOUND ME !! LOL
14th Nov 2015 – NOV PHOTO THREAD – page 4 !! Phewie !! (for anyone curious to go and click !) LOL
It’s cold and rainy here in France today – the sort of drizzle that prétends its raining, you can”t see anything but you get wet outdoors!!…. so no motivation to do anything, but I will force myself to go out for a power walk or my NY resolution will not have lasted 10 days !
We had snow this morning. So pretty! But it’s nearly all gone already.
Moxie, how clever of your mum! I didn’t know that about black buns. Bam is black, he has gray feet and gray wool (but not as light as your hat). I always thought that was a flaw.
It’s pretty cool. The color of the rabbit (at least in angoras) is decided by the color of their head/ears. So even if Moxie’s wool was completely white or had brown in it, she’d still be considered a black rabbit because her head is completely black.
What a spectacular hat !!! Not itchy like my wool hat I’m sure.
This is the antibiotic she is thinking about
http://www.drugs.com/vet/chlorpalm-250-can.html
He didn’t seem to feel the need to, lord knows he had enough of a sample on his ear looking thingy. She seems to be getting better each day now that i learned the method of getting the medication to actually go in her ear vs just putting drops in and massaging. Suction is the key ! You can tell it is more effective by her efforts to get loose. She managed to completely flatten herself out and scoot away last night ! Cheeky girl.
We had snow the other day also, never lasts long
Sadly VB I have never been able to access the November picture thread, it still reads as an error when I try ?
LBJ..eww, just eww..![]()
Well, I didn’t die so it much not have been that bad. It smelled pretty gross though. I was shocked there was one in there like that.
Moxie – I believe you ! I’d never paid attention before but I had a handfull of light grey fur this morning !!!
BL – here it is again, but then that’s it…. my photo will disappear for everrrrrrrrr :o))

Your bun looks so big! How much does he weigh? Moxie is 9 pounds.
6kg = 13.2 pounds methinks.
Like most buns, she has huge and heavy backside !! LOL.
That is a lovely picture, Vienna!
And a lovely bunny!
What a spectacular picture of both you and the bunny ! I agree, that is a large bunny, wow. Mine are about as long as an ear..lol
OMG, look at that big bunny! LOL
I’m so angry at Leopold right now. I was glancing down the hallway and saw Leopold grooming Wooly. Aww, I thought to myself. Next thing I know, he was in full-on hump mode. I went to shoo him away. He just got mad and circled around for another go at it. I shooed him away again and scolded him (a lot of good that does). I left the room and saw Leopold at it again. I don’t want him pulling Wooly’s fur out again. So I marched over there, he saw me, and he took off. When he stopped to look back at me, I see a chunk of fur in his mouth. *sigh*
It’s always a good idea to scold a rabbit, LBJ. They so really listen and learn. Always eager to please their humans!
Well truth be told…mine DO appreciate hearing ” that’s a good bunny ! ” when I’m trying to get them into their pen, rather than ” don’t be a bad bunny. ” So I think they listen to a degree
Last night I left them free range on the main floor while I slept on the couch. Think I will do so this evening also. I was out at the rescue, they have been locked up and I don’t have the heart to do so, so soon. We saved a bunny from the streets tonight
She is safe in the shelter !
I received three new black bunnies last night, all beautiful of course
LBJ I’m so glad neither of mine have ever done that..
Good job, BunLuv!
My buns listen to a degree too. But it’s pretty useless to tell Yohio not to bite holes in my bed-linen f ex =) And it’s completely useless to ask him if i can sleep just 10 minutes more. No amount of begging will achieve that.
They do come running when I speak in my bunny voice though. The bunny voice means food and pets! A funny thing is that when my bf calls Bam to give him a treat, Bam comes running up to me to get the treat.
By the way, I was so sad to hear about the death of David Bowie. It feels kind of unreal, that he’s gone.
I agree it’s quite useless to tell BB to stop pulling tissues out of the tissue box, lol. He loves to do so ! I do however cease them from chewing on the couch with a sharp NO !
Yes the ladies were quite shocked about the death. I was aware of who he is, but wasn’t really a follower of his music.
BL – your rabbits are the length of an ear !! LOL – So 2 could sit up on her head !!
Yes that was a lovely photo and it’s such a shame that it was the last one of her in my arms.
But now we have roll around sessions on the floor where she gives me a head massage… (I see head massage, she sees climbing up higher to get a good look at something!)
Zou chews the edge of “her” carpet mat – (only the edge though. when we were away the edge was out of her reach and she didn’t bother digging for it!!) which is sort of fine as I bought it second hand for her as I knew she chews…. but then I don’t really want her to destroy it !
So I do say a sharp “NO”…
But she looks up – as if I’ve sneezed and dared to interrupt her – and then gets straight back down to chewing again…. even if I put wood or her chew rosewood mat right under her nose….. hurumph. I won’t win….
BunLuv – You don’t have to follow his music to love David Bowie. Just watch Labyrinth. You’ll love him.
Well, if Leopold didn’t think he was being punished last night, he thinks he’s being punish now. He’s been sulking for the last hour or so. I clipped his nails. He wasn’t happy with me.
Wooly knows what “no” means. Leopold doesn’t know what anything means, but that’s because he can’t hear me.
Yep, she could have a bunny each for ears !
Nail trims will have that effect, lol
I get the bunny butt for that usually, though I take mine to have them done.
He had been avoiding me, but they needed to be done. He put up quite the fuss, but I knew that going in. LOL I was only bitten once this time. He’s a biter.
Got an email. We’re apparently doing mandatory thesis meetings. Why was this never discussed with me?
Yes, one of mine is a biter also. Never feel safe petting and watching TV because all of a sudden he will nip !
Do you get to discuss those options, lol ?
Bunluv – Well I would think at least the day/time should have been discussed with me.
I hate clipping nails! And Moxie struggles so much I’m scared I’ll hurt her. 1 human vs a 9 pound bun. The bun will ALWAYS win. ![]()
Do they need clipping if they live on hard floors most of the time?
(PS : if anyone saw just this page, they’d think it was a forum for dark rabbits (and B&W too LBJ !) !! LOL
IDK, I guess it really depends if their nails get long enough so they have to be trimmed. Our husky and our GSD mix puppies never need their nails trimmed because they run around a lot and dig holes so their nails get filed down. But my mini dachshund needs her nails trimmed because she doesn’t do those things. ![]()
I’ve had offers to cut them in exchange for a batch of cookies ! I usually take them to the vets. Apparently the rescue has bunny spa days and something called hoppy hour ?
Now if I can just catch Wooly to give him a good brushing. He does NOT trust me right now. =\
*sigh* I’m so tired. The data entry continues. I calculated it out. About 15% are incomplete surveys. That seems like so much!
BL : “Hoppy hour”! Well found the rescue place!! What does the bun get to drink during Hoppy hour ?!! lol
Errr I wonder why he doesn’t trust you ??? Maybe it was the ambush for a nail trim !!
That is a high number of flaky people not finishing the survey !
Good question VB, I will have to find that out..perhaps the bunny parent drink, LOL. Actually it is a place where all rabbits play together. With all the scare of diseases I’m not sure I’m comfortable with it ? They did this at the rabbit festival also.
I’ve seen YouTube videos of Hoppy Hours, it seems so amazing that all the buns seem to get along, that they don’t just get into a huge fight so it all ends in a blood bath. They are colony-animals so maybe they instinctively know how to behave (and not behave) in a “colony” of sorts?
I’d be wary of mites, fur mites are often spread between rabbits on rabbit-agility shows. But it’s not like the end of the world of course if your bun gets fur mites, you have to weigh the risk against the benefit as always.
Btw, Bunluv, I saw the little black rescue-bun on your rescue’s Facebook page. You guys do amazing work.
He’s still distrustful after all the meds I was/am giving him.
Yeah, I’m pretty disappointed with these surveys. That’s the problem with doing them by mail though. =\
Eh, I don’t know if I’d want mine running around with a bunch of other bunnies. Plus Leopold would probably be trying to hump all of them! o_O
Ugh, I can’t catch a stress free break ! lol
I got home after the 3 months taking care of my grandmother, for my spouse to tell me essentially that 3 months away with other women hitting on him and the freedom to do whatever he wants has made him want to split up. He decided to inform me of this on Christmas Eve, while we were at dinner at a restaurant. So, now I am in planning to move out mode. Trying to figure out how to safely get 2 rabbits and 1 parrot down to Florida to my mom’s, separate bank accounts and all that good stuff.
LBJ – I hope he gets over the meds “I hate you” attitude. Stickers did that to me for so long after I had to medicate her for a month. Little brat.
Aw Stickerbunny, that stinks, I’m sorry. (((Hugs))) from me and Moxie!
Ah no!! Stickerbunny that really does stink…. Bas**ard. Great timing as well !
Separate bank accounts? Absolutely!!!! (and transfer ALL the dosh in the joint one to yours!!) !!!!
(I hope you told him about the sexy male nurse looking after your grandmother with you that you can’t wait to get back and see as a ‘singleton’ …..!!) (WINK)
Yeah it’s sometimes hard to get a hold of Josephine for that reason also. Quick little girl that one !
So I entered BB into a ” cutest pet contest ” feel free to vote for him ! It’s under the name ” Bonnie ” on FB.

Thank you ! Hopefully there is a car pool heading out to that part of the lower mainland on the Sunday. Looking forward to seeing what that event is all about !
and Sb, you don’t need a man in your life who doesn’t value you. Honestly the way that went down was despicable.

I’m sorry, Stickerbunny. I agree with BunLuv… that’s absolutely horrible the way he talked to you.
Does anyone else on Binkybunny know of the Midwest Bunfest? I went last year, and it was great! It’s sponsered by the Ohio House Rabbit Rescue, and it’s an absolutely wonderful chance to get to know other people who share the same obsession!! I’m looking forward to it this year (of course, it’s in November, so I’ll be waiting for a while for it to roll around again
)
I agree with you guys. Pretty lame. Stickerbunny, he doesn’t deserve you.
cinnybun – There used to be members here that went to it. I haven’t been to it myself.
@stickerbunny – I’m so sorry. It sounds like you deserve so much better than that.
Stickerbunny, I’m so sorry – at the same time I’m glad you “got away” before you had 4 kids and a mortgage. It wasn’t nice to spring that on you at a restaurant on Christmas Eve, to say the least.
Yohio has gone into full molting-mode.
Today is Zero’s 6th birthday. So I made the dogs so pupcakes to celebrate.
I got my repashy fish food today. Super excited because It wasn’t supposed to be here for at least three days. I just made a batch and am waiting to see how Squiggles likes it.
My new water test kits won’t be here until thursday though.
Thanks, guys.
Bam – Haha I never want kids and owning a house just sounds like a pain in the neck, so I don’t think either will ever be a worry for me ![]()
*sigh* And the saga continues.
“Typical biased university research with questions loaded to obtain the answers you would like”.
“Your results will be worthless unless your goal was to make the questions [so vague] to skew the results to promote your own agenda. REALLY.”
I will be seeing my adviser on Wednesday, but he will just shrug it off as people not knowing what they are talking about. There is such hostility and it really hurts when people accuse you of being dishonest in your research. My study is on a proposed project (has not happened yet) and just because of that people seem to think I am in some way associated with said project. Trust me, my graduate thesis will have absolutely no impact of whether the project actually happens or not. I don’t have an agenda. I was genuinely curious about the social aspects surrounding something like this. “Luckily” for me, there just happened to be a proposed project right here that fit the bill for my study.
This certainly doesn’t help my anxiety. And my adviser wonders why I have been struggling so much to get my thesis done. =\
LBJ— (((Hugs)))
So I had to take ALL of my gravel out of my fishtank today, because Squiggles ate a piece. (Which could kill him by compacting his stomach or making him feel full so he doesn’t eat and starves or causes swimming issues) I think he puked it back up, but am not sure. I took out all the gravel though so he wouldn’t eat anymore. I don’t know how he managed to eat it though, since he couldn’t eat his pellets which were smaller. T.T
Sorry the situation seems to be such a struggle. I hope things become less anxiety causing in the future !
So I took Josephine out to the rescue vet today ( with the lady who runs the rescue ) and the infection is STILL hideous, so on a systemic antibiotic she goes ( chlorpalm ), as well as Polysporin antibiotic ear drops, metacam and ear flushes. Glad the ladies demonstrated the ear flush ! Trimmed her nails for me also
He also gave me drops to dissolve the ear wax. I don’t think that Baytril was even penetrating the intended target.
I’ve begun a bake fest of rabbit cookies for the rescue to sell at the upcoming ” pet lovers ” event.
The poor little girl has had this infection for at least a month now.

LBJ, I’m sorry, I’m quite convinced you’d never try to steer the results of a scientific survey in a previously chosen direction. Because obviously that would make it completely useless unless you’re planning on a career as a lobbyist or sth. I’m sure lobbyists have regular courses in skewing poll results in their favor =)
BunLuv, so sorry to hear that Josephine still isn’t well. (((((Josephine))))) She’s getting such great care though, no efforts spared.
Thank you Bam !
She has been washing this past month and trying to pull that ear down to wash it, but could never quite get a hold of it. After it was flushed out last night she was able to finally pull it down and wash it. It was such a beautiful sight !
I could have had a culture done, but the vet said it is quite expensive and wasn’t all that adamant it was necessary. I suppose though if this treatment fails, that would be next.
They seem to think the questions are biased. I guess the connection to nature ones might come off that way a little bit, but it isn’t my scale (one of the professors on my committee developed it). When you’re looking at the survey though, you probably wouldn’t know that that is what the scale is trying to measure. Combine that with the fact that there is a lot of hostility toward this project (and misinformation) and people who seem very distrusting of the government and you have people accusing me of having an agenda. Oh well.
I’m actually getting ready to go to work for part of the day. It’s a holiday, so no one will be there. I can print out as much stuff as I want and no one will be angry with me for hogging the printer (I’ve been having to print out A LOT of stuff, 30 copies each).
Aww, poor Josephine. I think the ear wash and stuff will help. Did the vet make sure her ear drum is intact?
I’m hoping the first vet did when she removed the ear wax ? I did read up about drops and ruptured ear drums before the first set of drops. I really can’t imagine how anyone can see anything with all that pus ?!?!
I’m quickly learning how to give medication to a rabbit, such a tiny little mouth, lol. I don’t want to use fruit because I noticed last night she had soft poop which usually occurs with fruit intake. I even cut out carrots. I doubt it was from the antibiotics a few hours earlier ? Something I need to keep an eye on.
Good thing you aren’t paying for the printer ink. That is a lot of copies !
If fruit gives her soft droppings, you might want to ask the vet what they mixed her meds with. They typically flavor bunny medicines and will often use some sort of fruit juice, or fruit flavoring. My vet uses pineapple margarita mix.
For meds, they have a tiny gap in their teeth at the back, even if they try to keep their teeth shut. Syringe slipped through that is what I did with Stickers. They are such brats about medicine! Hope the infection clears up OK.
Guys I saw my bunny sleeping for the first time today. I have been watching to see if I could catch anyone asleep but I’m always at school during their sleep time but today my one bunny was flopped over and his nose stopped twitching and i was like yes finally gotcha it was honestly the cutest thing i have ever seen he was so peaceful.
Moothebun – They are cute when they sleep. Except when Wooly sleeps with his eyes open……
I never knew they sleeped with there eyes open until I googled how to know when your bunny is asleep and apparently they have three eye lids that allow them to do that to watch for preditors
Oh yes, and it’s so creepy. I walk in and Wooly is laying on his side with his eye open and his pupil all constricted (because the lights are on). Freaks me out each time.
So my adviser read some of the juicier notes. He said he wasn’t surprised. Then we had a nice discussion about why these particular respondents probably responded the way that they did. We even came up with ways to reword the questions/statements to make them sound a little less biased. Maybe we can relay those suggestions to the person who created the scale (for future reference). For now, I’m just going to keep going. I’ve got my data entered. Now I need to get everything set up for SPSS.
Please tell me if this is just me? I find myself doing stuff like this when I’m waiting for an order!
When you are waiting for a package and it’s taken forever to get here and it should arrive today:
Tracks package
“Yay it’ll be here today”
Waits and waits for mail to come, but there’s NO sign of it coming
“Hmm”
Still no mail
“I wonder if today’s a holiday?”
Research holidays
“Oh no, it’s national hugging day, the mail is definitely not coming!” (
 ![]()
Mail comes
“Yaaaaayyyyyy”
Package wasn’t with mail
“Oh I see how this is. send it with a delivery truck. cool. okay.”
Eye twitches
“Uhhh I can’t wait any longer!!”

No way Moxie, it’s squirrel appreciation day! ![]()
I totally don’t do that… nope…never… *cough*
I took a video of Josephine recently nodding off. Unfortunately I didn’t catch the first part when she was falling to the side, lol.
http://www.facebook.com/bonnie.mcmu…mp;theater
She’s like..huh..what..no I wasn’t sleeping !! I’m a prey animal, don’t be RIDICULOUS mama…
Okay little princess if you say so….
It’s been a crazy week. I just tried washing off the medication stuck in her fur…that I thought was IN her..I was wondering why her face looked more contracted than it did before. It was because her fur was caked in antibiotics…I really have a hard time giving her that. Even if I put her back against me with her feet sticking out, how do I see her tiny little mouth ?!?! Ugh.
My regular vet is back tomorrow so we are all going up. BB has been shaking his head and acting bizarrely lately, including peeing on me while I was sleeping on the couch..So much stress since she became ill that it affects all of us.
I don’t like waiting for packages and am eternally grateful when they arrive first thing in the morning !
Have you tried bunny burrito? I find that the easiest way to get Stickers her meds. I put her on the kitchen counter, wrap her in a towel and put one arm over her, holder her head still and the other syringes into her mouth.
I’m serious, it actually WAS national hugging day yesterday! LOL
LBJ— LOL, just saw it was Squirrel appreciation day yesterday too, lol! We should of went around giving hugs to Squirrels lol! ![]()
Sounds like an excellent plan for next year Moxie. ![]()
Yes SB by 1 am I resorted to the bunny burrito..wrap, wrap, in the mouth and POOF done. What a beautiful discovery..
I had the vet check her ear today and there is very little pus, so continue on with ChlorPalm etc and add in a probiotic for the loose cecals.
BB on the other hand, who has NEVER had a check up..has tiny little tooth spurs causing a slight misalignment but the risk of sedating isn’t worth it at this point. My vet is leaving in two months to move to Toronto and will assess and do the filing before she leaves.
She has asked me to mail her cookies and suggested retailing them out in Toronto which she would assist with. Obviously that would mean free cookies life long for her ! I’d of sent them if she paid the postage anyway
I need a company name for my cookies before they are for sale at the pet show. I was thinking to use ” BunLuv ” but that name seems to be all over. Any suggestions ?
Hug these huge squirrels around here you’d be lucky to still have a face !!!
*sigh* Wooly has a doughnut of a mat on his chest. Since he hasn’t been feeling well, I’ve been lenient with the grooming. He gets so upset when I brush him and I worry he can’t breathe. I managed to snip what was on either side, but there is still the part under his chin. He will not let me touch it.
Wow that sucks. Feeling grateful I have short haired bunnies ! I had to wash princesses side of her face and under her chin because it was caked in ChlorPalm. Can’t even imagine trying to comb a knot out of that magnitude.
I like squirrels! When i was in London there were squirrels in the parks, not at all like the squirrels we have here but big fat agouti ones. Ours are brown/black and much smaller.
Yesterday was a beautiful day here with snow and all the trees had ice on them like in a post-card. We went hiking in a nearby nature-preserve. A small blue tit came flying and fluttered around me, begging me for food. He seemed all weak and desperate. I only had an apple. He was so cute, so tiny. The apple seemed to perk him up after just a few nibbles, and he started singing. I tried to get pix, but as you know, all animals know it when you even THINK about taking pix.
Except those fat London squirrels, they didn’t seem to care. Here’s a pic of the very fattest one we saw:

Wow that is a fat one bam !!! Yes the squirrels are not afraid ! lol
a friend has asked me to the National (UK) Pet Show in London in May…. the Brit’s are SUCH animal lovers and doing things (generally) the right way for our pets with positive reinforcement and kindness and love & hugs etc….
here’s the link…. http://www.thenationalpetshow.com/page.cfm/link=18
Very tempting !!
Bam we have that color running rampant in the townhouse complex, as well as brown and black.
Hope any of you on the eastern side of other side of the pond are OK with the snowstorms we’re hearing about.
Take care now !
Oh yes, hope you are ok all Americans! I’be been reading about Snowmageddon
We’re getting + degrees and rain now, winter is over, but it was just beautiful while it lasted!
Bunluv, I bet you have the most amazing wildlife in Canada! My mother’s hubby was an “Ax Man” in Canada when he was young. Your forests must be so beautiful.
Vienna, those were some breathtaking jumps! Bunny agility is a big sport for kids here.
I’ve always felt that the UK is a country were bunnies are appreciated for their beauty and personalities. Beatrix Potter and Richard Adams!
I just love squirrels! We have Fox Squirrels here and they get pretty big. I remember the ones that would sit under the bird feeders at my old job. They were so fat! LOL Squirrels can get pretty bold, especially if they are used to people feeding them. I remember them climbing all over the screen door when I was a kid. One even rang the doorbell once, but I’m pretty sure it was accidental.
There will be bunny agility at the upcoming pet show here also. Though they use the rubber interlocking pieces for a floor, not cement.
My girlfriend has one do spiderman up the side of the apartment building to take peanuts.
I love squirrels. I have a funny story about squirrels when I was little, I’ll have to tell it in my next post lol
Okay, now a little rant about veggies
:
So my sister wanted to try and plan dinners for 2 weeks. I mean that’s great. I get a break from cooking, she gets to be responsible and learn how to plan and make things last ect. It’s great. But….Now to my complaint. There’s only 1 veggie I just CAN’T STAND, I literally just CRINGE thinking about them. They are gross and nasty and their texture is nasty. They pop in your mouth. Yup you guessed it, PEAS
She literally found a way to work them into pretty much ALL of her recipes! It literally took me 1/2 an hour to pick out all the peas in the pot pie we had for dinner because the pot pie was SOOOO heavily loaded with peas!
(And she knows I hate them and wouldn’t even eat smashed peas as baby) ~sigh~
Oh no Moxie, that’s no fun. I’m not a big pea fan either, especially canned peas. Eww. I will eat raw garden peas (the big ones that are sweet) in salads and stuff though.
Frozen peas are the best !!!!!!!!!!!!
Mixed together with a bit of ketchup and even grated cheese if required !!!!
I could eat a WHOLE plate of them.
I am talking about UK peas, small and dark (and yes Moxie, which POP in your mouth !!), not the mushy light-green big peas.
Moxie, I’m sorry, it’s awful to have to eat sth you detest. But peas are good for you, full of protein ![]()
I truly love frozen green peas. They don’t have to be all thawed even. When my dog was really young we used to play with frozen peas on the kitchen floor. She set them into motion with her nose and seemed completely fascinated by the whole thing. When the peas thawed, she ate them.
Oh Moxie, I’m sorry, I dislike peas too… I’ve never tried frozen peas. I like snow peas, but those aren’t exactly peas I guess.
About squirrels… squirrels. Well. In the US, they’re just a nuisance! I have chickens, and they always eat the feed. I’m not saying that squirrels can’t be cute, but still…
Yeah, I’ve never liked peas! One of the first “solid” foods my mother gave me was smashed pea baby food. She wrote in my baby journal that I spat them out and wouldn’t touch them, lol!![]()

Okay, now to my squirrel story!
When I was little (about 4-5 years old) I was at a big park with a lot of big trees. My mother was sitting on a bench a little ways away, and I was enjoying my lunchable. Well all of a sudden a fat squirrel ran up to me and darted a few feet away, ran up to me again and darted a few feet away. Me being a little kid, decided to follow the squirrel. I followed the squirrel quite a ways away, when he ran up a tree and started to head back. I followed him back to where I had been eating my lunachable. There I saw a few other squirrels had carried my lunchable up a tree, and the fat squirrel I had followed joined in to eat it! I quickly told my mother and she went to check it out. She told me she wasn’t going to try and take it from them and to just let them have it. So a squirrel lured me away while others stole my lunch, lol!
Welp, all I can say is that they were smart squirrels, ha ha!![]()

OMG, that’s so funny Moxie! Yes, squirrels are very smart little creatures. I remember bringing a pumpkin home to carve into a Jack-O-Lantern. I sat it inside the garage so the dog wouldn’t find it. Later that day, I opened the garage door to get out a rake or something. I forgot something, went back in the house, and when I returned (not 2 minutes later) a squirrel had gone inside the garage and gotten to the pumpkin. It had a BIG hole in it. LOL
Really clever squirrels =)
I read up a bit on the gray squirrels, apparently they’re American and were imported to the UK, Ireland and Italy to be “ornamental” in private parks. Now they’ve just about out-competed the domestic red squirrel completely. They are bigger and get more offspring and have the ability to store lots of body fat so they fare better during winter. The one I photographed certainly had taken that about storing body fat to heart =)
So they are Eastern gray squirrels then Bam? That’s what it looks like in the picture. They are about half the size of the fox squirrels we have where I live (we have both species).
Those Agouti squirrels scamper through the yard endlessly all day. I’m fairly certain as one ran by the patio door it dwarfed Josephine. They are HUGE ! Very pretty too though, love their coloring.

Cool map, Moxie!
LBJ, Eastern grey squirrel it is. I can’t believe you have squirrels double the size of those heffalumps!
Edit: Had to look them up, really cool! I’d probably be scared of those. Our squirrels will sometimes bombard you with small twigs and stuff and chatter in a very upset voice. I’m guessing it’s if you get too close to where they have their babies.
There are definitely more fox squirrels than gray squirrels around here. It’s funny because I’m so used to seeing the bigger ones. Then there was this tiny little squirrel on my undergrad campus. He was so freaking adorable, always sitting under the same tree next to the path. I kept thinking to myself, why doesn’t this squirrel grow any bigger? LOL Pretty sure he was a gray squirrel and not a fox squirrel. ![]()
Squirrels are pretty cute.
I think though that Mantis shrimp are SO COOL THOUGH! You can read about them in this fun little comic “why the mantis shrimp are my new favorite animal”:
http://theoatmeal.com/comics/mantis_shrimp

I do like the grey squirrel – there are loads and loads in the South of England, (so much so that my dog looked liked
she was in a Benny Hill fast forward episode chasing each squirrel up a different tree and going off and finding
the next available one to chase!!) but they are chasing away and taking over from the lovely red squirrels which is very sad.
You can see the tiny little island at the very South of the UK is the Isle of Wight and I read somewhere that they
“got rid” of all grey squirrels for this very reason and kept the native red ones safe. Yay!
For those who have pups in their homes here is a recipe for them – I FOUND it in my clippings –
never made so can’t confirm if the dogs like it!! lol
I think we’ve got FOX SQUIRRELS in France……. !!!!
They are VERY rare though !! LOL

Vienna, that’s an impressive squirrel ![]()
LOL Vienna, that’s one unique squirrel!
The grey squirrels we have here are smart. The first year I moved here, I planted tomatoes in my garden… I would find the tomatoes with one bite in them and then abandoned. I finally figured out that it was the squirrels! They knew exactly how to annoy me!!
Errr yes, very unusual squirrel VB..![]()
I’d like to show you my latest fosters ! A bonded due staying with me due to Cleo ( the smaller one ) having to receive panacur for a month. She has a cataract on her eye, the vet believes due to EC. She has had the same spot for a year and she is a year old. I read up on EC and how the parasite passes in utero resulting in cataracts in the babies. She is not contagious and he doesn’t have any symptoms.
.jpgRESIZE.jpg)
Mr President or ” Prezzie “
.jpgRESIZE.jpg)
Cleo
She is much easier to give medication to than princess !
LOL, I love it Vienna. On a side note, someone is very talented.
Bunluv – Aww, they are adorable!
Thank you !
Sadly they need to be switched out already, due to the effect the male bunny is having on BB. Princess ( Josephine ) and BB have been bonded for 9 months and I have NEVER witnessed humping. I think I saw one backwards attempt early in December when princess was first sick. Since the arrival of Prezzie, BB is relentless in his humping. Poor princess tried hiding behind the curtains to no avail…
He is extremely agitated and so we will switch them out for girls. Unfortunate because they are really fun bunnies ! Big one poops a lot though ? Never seen so much poop..They have a double x pen in the basement, most of the area..covered in poop !
Princesses tummy didn’t like the Chlorpalm, to the point she stopped eating and pooping. She has began again after the medicine was ceased, which is good because feeding that girl CC is a not pleasant. For a 2lb rabbit she is a serious challenge medicating or feeding with a syringe. The vet recommended Chloramphenicol drops but doesn’t know where to order them. The rescue can get a hold of that medication in ointment only. Bunny burrito doesn’t work on that rabbit, she either shoots out or does the turtle head thing.
Ahhh I long for an uncomplicated existence. Haven’t been to the gym in forever ! One more day..the bunnies will be picked up in a few hours. I will be taking the lady who runs the rescues little dwarf and partner ! Love me some dwarf bunny ![]()
LBJ – I can’t take the praise for that one I’m afraid…. ![]()
Bunluv, life with buns keeps you on your toes, or so I’ve noticed with my own bun-life. Both my buns tummies have gone out of whack, and it’s in all probability because their favorite hay isn’t available any longer. I ordered a probiotic fiber-supplement for them and the company sent me a supplement for dogs and then a person at the company claimed I would have to pay for the dog-supplement because I’d ordered the wrong thing. By law you have the right to return stuff bought online within a week, regardless if you’ve ordered the wrong or the right thing, so I knew that guy tried to trick me. And I so hate that sort of thing.
The worst thing is of course the buns didn’t get their tummy supplement
I also ordered orchard, oat and botanical hay and papaya fruit plus and do you think the buns will have anything to do with either of it? Not even the papaya fruit plus befalls these worthy, fur-clad little gentlemen
bam – If you want to try a French brand… I can send you some !! (No really! us Europeans need to stick together… even if the UK will be voting soon whether to stay in the EU !!!)
Hay with carrot, natural or with wild roses added.
It’s greener than the other brands (and more expensive) but Zou gobbles it up when Madame doesn’t have fresh cut grass at her disposal !!
You’re so sweet, Vienna =)
But I think we’ll have to go to the vet tomorrow. Bam is not eating. He’s gotten some CC
I got the right supplement today, after I wrote that last post. (My bf called them yesterday and complained, apparently that took effect!). I can’t say it’s a raving success, but Yohio actually has eaten a few of the pellets.
Cleo (cat) isn’t doing well again and we still haven’t been able to figure out what’s wrong yet. Hopefully the vets will squeeze us in tomorrow. *sigh*
((((((( Vibes for your babies bam )))))))
Bunlife is a nitemare presently. BB is still on his incessant humping thing. Poor princess can’t eat, or use the litter box AND she can’t completely close the eye on the nerve damage side. I break them up and put him in his pen and her in a little cage while at work or sleep. It is really getting on my last nerve.
Oh (((((((vibes for Cleo ))))))) Moxie !
Oh (((((((vibes for Cleo ))))))) Moxie !
Oh no, I hope Bam and Cleo are both doing better. Seems like lot’s of pets are not feeling well lately.
Bam is better today. Got an apt for him on Monday. I hope it’s “just” his teeth. Teeth are after all manageable. He was so cuddly this morning, came and begged for food and demanded pets and sat for nose-rubs for the longest time until I almost got worried over THAT!
I hope Josephine will be fine with her meds, Bunluv. Syringe-feeding is such a hazzle. And I hope BB’s humping-spree will soon be over when his system “realizes” there’s no other competing male around.
Many vibes for (((((Cleo))))), Moxie. I hope you can figure out what’s causing this.
Edit: And what do you know, Yohio finished all his supplement-pellets during the night! Yay, what a good little yellow boy!
Yay for Yohio ! (I always feel like yodelling when i same his name out loud…!) Yo-hi-oooooooooooo
Come on you other boys and girls !! Get better, you’re all causing your own Mum’s stress (is it the funny weather out there at the moment?)
(I hope I never have to burrito Zou, I’d need a bed blanket and a digger truck with a bucket on rather than a towel and my arms !!! LOL)
Got divorce papers settled and currently in Georgia at my cousin’s house. The bunnies are in their spare room to be away from the dogs/cats in the house. They don’t appreciate the barking, but they aren’t freaking out too too bad about it. I stopped at a hotel yesterday and they had banana and pellets for breakfast. Their droppings are a tiny bit smaller than usual, but still coming, so no stress stasis. Yay.
I’ll be leaving today probably to head to Florida. 6 hours of driving left. Ugh. I am so sick of driving. lol
Hope everybun is doing OK this weekend!
The vets can’t squeeze us in until monday at the earliest, but I think we’ve decided to wait until tuesday so that we can go to Snickers’ vet instead, because we feel like Cleo’s vet isn’t thorough. They just give her a quick “feel”. They didn’t look in her eyes/ears/mouth and didn’t take her temp. They just gave her a butt-swab and looked under a microscope, said they couldn’t find anything and prescribed her “Albon”.
So my sister wants her to go to Snickers’ vet instead. But she still has mucusy bloody stool. We think it’s coming from her catching a couple mice because this all started when she caught one, went on meds and it went away, then she caught another one and now it’s happening again. ~sigh~
Got all the dogs registered yesterday and went and saw the new Kung Fu Panda movie. I think the new movie about the boat looks pretty cool. It’s called something like “The finest hours”.
We have been rehoming some of our roosters. We re-homed a Speckled Sussex to a nice old man who had some rhode island red hens, he drove a little over an hour to come pick him up. And then we have somebody who will be coming today to pick up 2 roosters. She’s driving nearly 2 hours. She’s interested in our Salmon Faverolle and our Silver Laced Wyandotte. She want them for her hens. I’m glad they’re going to good homes where they won’t have to fight over the amount of hens, and the hens will have a protector and won’t be over-mated.
(((((Vibes))))) to everybody and everybunny that needs them!
Eating mice can lead to a roundworm infection. I would be careful about kitties eating mice. They could be consuming poison if, say a neighbor, was putting out bait and the mice were eating it.
LBJ, we’ve had that problem a lot here lately since rat-poison was banned last year. Only extermination companies can use rat poison now. You can still buy mouse-poison though and people use that instead and it’s even worse for cats and dogs than the rat poison, but people think it’s more or less harmless so they spread it all around =(
Kitties will eat mice though. I don’t think you could teach a kitty not to?
LBJ— Cleo doesn’t eat mice. She doesn’t even kill them. She’ll catch them in her mouth, and then drop the live mouse onto your lap or next to you, talk about an adrenaline rush! LOL
Moxie, that sounds like a truly lovely experience
But it is sweet of her to share! From a kitty perspective it’s of course a very nice present.
Thank you SB weekend is going okay, hope yours did also !
( Besides the annoying driving )
Princess ( Josephine ) never went on that other drug. I actually used the ear wax/flush drops and the expensive Baytril Otic. Doesn’t seem to be any scratching beyond when I put drops in ! She is eating me out of house and home also, lol. Many kisses bestowed too
BB is learning that humping in not appreciated ! Princess is not the type to defend herself, so I give him a time out when he does so..beyond the ” no’s ” during the day. They have not resided in the same pen overnight for days. I think that may be in the works shortly though. It was very heartbreaking to watch their bond lessen. Whether it be from the male in the house or the trips to the vet without him, I’ll never know. From now on no matter if going out frightens him or not, he is coming..
Bam, no you can’t teach a kitty not to, but I’m one of those people who doesn’t believe cats should be allowed to roam free. Too many dangers lurk outside. I know some cats will drive their owner’s insane wanting to be let out, but if they are kept inside from the very beginning then they don’t seem to know the difference. At least none of my kitties, anyway.
Moxie – You said the problems seemed to coincide with Cleo catching a mouse, so I thought perhaps she was eating them. That can definitely lead to worms! LOL
BunLuv – It’s nice hearing that Josephine is doing better. Has her paralysis improved any?
StickerBunny – Again, I’m so sorry you’re having to go through all of that. I hope you get to where you’re going soon, safe and sound and with the buns.
LBJ— Yeah, she catches them, but doesn’t eat them. I think she’s only ever managed to kill 1 a few months ago. Normally if we find a dead mouse it’s because Zero (dog) killed it. She’ll bring them to him and he’ll finish the deed. She’s one weird cat, LOL!
Sadly no, he face, eye and ear are still contracted. Her ear never goes down fully, eye doesn’t close fully either. I’m now worried she is eating too much ??? She has been eating non stop for two days. She does need to regain weight though, she lost .4 of a lb.
She has resumed her spot at my feet in the kitchen. She sits down there and if one doesn’t drop greens down ones foot is scratched !! She took a bit of banana today also, hasn’t done that in forever.

The view I always have in the kitchen. Usually no poop though..that is BB. Although this humping is annoying, I’m starting to burst out laughing at him trying to be stealthy ! Silly rabbit.

It doesn’t take much to read his mind. Poor princess, lol.
Bunluv, BB certainly looks stealthy. I must say I’ve seldom seen a bun look stealthier!
I think it’s great that Josephine is eating banana again! That salad looks super-yummy. Nerve damage can take a long time to heal. In humans facial nerve paralysis often take many months to resolve itself.
LBJ, I’m not a huge fan of cats roaming free either and I just don’t see how anybody dare let their cats roam free in cities. I’d be worried sick all day long. I was just thinking Moxie’s cat perhaps is a free roamer since it’s farm country and all.
Yes, he is like ‘ She has no idea I’m back here….” sneak attack !!!
She is still stuffing her face today, such a hungry girl ! I hope it heals. I will be taking her for a re-check of her ear soon. If it has not cleared up I will have a culture done. Should of went that route to begin with. Always costs more when you opt to not take the most expensive route first..
Thank you Bam, I’ve been told I make a mean salad ! I’ve begun taking pictures for my new FB page.
