As a warning, this isn’t really graphic, but if you’re sensitive to stories of animals getting hurt (or in this case, almost getting hurt) proceed with caution.
ALSO, sorry if this isn’t the right place to put this! I just really need some advice. If there’s a better place I could post this just let me know.
My dad and I own two dogs and my rabbit. She stays upstairs and they stay downstairs, and have never crossed paths before. We always make sure the door to the stairs is closed so they can’t bother her. This time, however, we must have forgotten or they pushed it open because they got up and tortured my poor bun
She’s completely fine, thank god. She walked (hopped?) away without a single scratch. One of my dogs, however, was covered in his own blood from trying to pry her cage open. Then they chased her all the way downstairs to behind the TV, where they couldn’t reach her. She’s covered in some liquid that definitely is not blood (dog slobber? do bunnies sweat?) and I’m not sure how to clean it off of her. I’ve heard that water stresses rabbits and I don’t want to stress her more than needed after that experience.
I moved the bloody cage out of my room and put her in an old cage. I feel bad for her, because all of her toys got ruined. Other than the mysterious liquid, she seems totally herself. Hopping around and acting completely normal! Still, I’m really worried I’m gonna wake up tomorrow and find her dead of a heart attack or something
I wanted to call her vet but they, and all other exotic animal vets in the area, are only open during daytime hours. We’re talking about putting the dogs in crates while we leave because we’re worried that now that they have her scent, they’ll never stop trying to get to her.
Thoughts? Ideas?
