you need to find a vet in your area asap-left untreated infections can be serious or worse in a short period of time. Not to mention uncomrotable. Rabbits are not a wait and see type of pet, you really must treat asap for anything.
If it’s simple, a vet trip is affordable. If you are tight on money, let them know in the exam and ask if they accept post dated cheques, payments or can offer care credit cards.

Yeah, there are few things with bunnies that can be “watched” before action is taken. As KK said, something not too bad right now can get bad really quick. Anything to do with the ears should be looked at sooner rather than later, especially if you aren’t sure what the cause is. Just considering what you described, we can only make speculations. It could be anything from ear mite to the early stages of a bacterial infection. The good thing is that most of those things can be treated relatively inexpensively if you get it taken care of right away rather than waiting for it to get worse.

Vet fees are going to vary widely. My vet charges $46 for an office visit for a “new” problem. Medications tend to not be insanely expensive. I don’t think I’ve ever paid more than $40 for something. But it could be different where you live. I like KK’s idea of asking the vet if they will take payments, etc. Ask them before hand about how much it will cost and let them know you’re having financial difficulties.

If it’s a light brown scaly color on the inside, it is most likely ear mites…but you will have to look in there and see.  Mine had them and I didn’t even see it until it had gotten bad. He got a shot from the vet, then another one two weeks later and it cleared up pretty fast.

if a vet would only cost less than 100$ and take delayed payments that would be ideal. i was nervous that it would be hundreds!

ill start searching tomorrow, hopefully get her in that day or the next.

we started givng her collodial silver and feeding her thyme, rosemary, garlic, onion greens, echinacea, licorice root and have been sure not to give her treats that are sugary since it contributes to inflammation. i am also going to make her some turmeric tea

we got some ear drops today but i haven’t used them they contain :marigold, calendula, st johns wort, chamomile, horehound, clove, southernwood, penny-royal and witch hazel

we made her some newspaper toys, and shes been playful and friendly, but def scratching at her ears and seems uncomfortable.

i had an ear infection a few months ago so bad my left ear bled for three days. i know that stuff hurts. what can i do to make her more comfortable?

also i looked inside them and i cant see anything unusual looking. i should mention shes a lop ear

                thank you for your responses

Lops are more prone to ear- infections, just like down-ear dogs.

If it is an infection, and it sounds like it might be (do you notice any smell?), she needs antibiotics. It’s important to get it treated asap since an infection that “takes hold” may become chronic. The infection can spread to the middle and inner ear and cause problems with balance (head tilt).

If it is mites it is very easily cured with selamectin (spot on) or ivermectin(injection). Do NOT under any circumstances use fipronil (Frontline, Effipro etc) or let anyone use fipronil on your bunny. It has caused death in rabbits. A good vet should know this, of course.

A third possibility is a yeast infection. That also needs vet treatment with fungicidal ear wash.

Garlic is not good for bunnies to eat. Nothing from the onion/leek-family should be fed to bunnies because their red blood cells might be damaged (hemolytic anemia) http://www.medirabbit.com/EN/GI_diseases/Food/onion.htm

I don’t think colloidal silver is useful unless applied to the ear, i e topically. It has microbicidal properties (can kill germs etc) but it needs to get in direct contact with the problem-area.

The ear-drops I think you should ask your vet about. Sometimes herbal remedies are very potent, meaning you shouldn’t use them “lightly”. Some meds may interact with f ex st Johns wort. A vet can tell you if this is ok or if it might make the itching worse.
