Hey!  We just brought home a lop (supposed to be a holland lop, but he seems big, I will weigh him later) and he moves so low to t h e floor.  Our other bun is a Rex (mix?) And is very bouncy.  I’ve seen him bound up as high as my son’s low loft bed.  The lop seems to be creeping along the floor.  Is this normal?  He is also two yearsSo,  so full grown, and he seems so big with such big feet so maybe that is why his walk seems so heavy.  Our baby rex (3 months) is petite and bouncy with tiny feet and moves like he is flying or prancing.  So it’s quite different.  Is a slower, lower walk normal for an adult bigger lop?

So I did some bunny weighing.  Our lop is 6 lbs and our Rex is just over 3 lbs.  He seems to be walking taller now, maybe it was just the car ride?

My Leopold sort of lumbers along when he’s casually moving about. He’ll go faster if he’s excited though. He isn’t much of a binkier either. It might be a lop thing. I don’t know. You might also want to consider the fact that he is in a new home. He might be acting cautiously if he is unsure of his surroundings. A cautious bunny will often move slower, even to the point where they aren’t even hopping anymore but walking.

After having him home for a bit, he was walking normally again. It was like a belly on the floor/army crawl for a bit. I think it may have been the car ride. It sort of reminded me of when a person gets off a horse or a boat. He has since been moving around walking and hopping. He binkies, but not to the extreme of my rex…my rex prances like a gazelle. So it’s funny to see how differently they walk. He’s more cautious too. He kept getting “stuck” on his second level of his crate. I had to put some boxes down to make steps for him. My rex will jump up and down from twice as high. It is just an interesting difference between the two.

We definitely noticed this when we brought our French lop home after being used to a New Zealand Red! Her gait is much more lumbering, less fluid and she’s just slower and less hyperactive. I was worried for a while, but after even consulting a vet about it and concluding that there’s nothing wrong with her motor function, we concluded that it’s just a “lop thing”.
