My hubs works out of town during the week and comes home on weekends. He just called to let me know he had bought me a female flemish giant! I just posted the other day about how I was considering getting a chinchilla buns but would have to get Oz fixed before I could. Well, this giant buns will be here tomorrow! Can my dwarf buns mate with her? Oh, goodness. I’m going to have to come up with a huge area for her call home (Oz has a cage he can go into when he wants. It’s his personal space when not roaming the house). Of course, I’m excited, but I really wish I would have had more of a heads up. Lol. Does the care of a giant differ from that of a standard/dwarf buns?

That is one great husband!!! A Flemish giant for Christmas? How cool is that?!

Dwarf buns can mate with her so they mustn’t be together until fixed + healed. Buns can mate through the bars of a cage, so be wary.

I’ve never had a Flemish giant, so I can’t say if the care is much different. I highly doubt it though, she will need hay and pellets and greens like all other rabbits. Just a lot more =) There are some owners of big buns here though, so I’m guessing they will tell you more.

Hi, a female flemish adult or baby ???? lol
If baby you’ll have time to make her secure. if big…. well, you’ll have to see !!!!
The litter tray will have to be bigger, and tey’re generally gentle giants…… and they’re certainly cuddly if you get down on the floor !
You’ll have to keep us updated and photos please!!!! LOL
Yes bigger portions for bigger bun. !!!!
            Enjoy !!!!

They are rabbits; they can breed swiftly and quietly. They can even breed through bars. Size doesn’t matter.

Keep them completely separate till she is spayed, or he’s been neutered for more than a month. Males can store live sperm for a long time.

I know! I couldn’t believe it when he told me (he couldn’t keep it a secret. I had to have time to prepare). I really wanted to adopt a buns, but I got the impression this buns was meant to be someone dinner (gasp! Not in this house). I’m not sure if a baby or adult, but I think she is a juvenile. The only thing I know for sure is that she is white with black eyes. I’m a little worried about Ozzy being jealous. He’s so used to having all our attention. He’s a small buns with a big personality. One of my fears is that she will be older and scared (more so than usual for a rabbit) of us. Ozzy came to us very young, so it took all of a week for him to want to be a lap baby (and a demanding one he is). I have been trying to post pictures of him, but since I only have my phone to login from, it hasn’t allowed me to. Either being I don’t have the right flash or due to the image being too large.

I’ve rescued four rabbits in the past ranging from juveniles to oldies and I’ve never really noticed a significant difference in our ability to bond. Granted, all rabbits will have different things that they are comfortable with, and some may never truly be comfortable sitting in your lap or cuddling, but that doesn’t mean they wont be comfortable with you and grow to love you. I think going slowly, and letting your bunny get used to her new home will foster a place where you can all grow together

Hubs got off early from work today so. . . WE ARE GOING TO GET A BUNNY! I’m so excited. I found out a little more info. They are 8 weeks old. I thought hubs would be bringing the buns home with him, but since I get to go, I’m not going to say I want any particular one yet, but look at their individual personality before I pick. I’m so excited.

I ended up with a gray flemish. My daughter picked. I’m not 100% sure about its sex, but it was the friendliest and came to us immediately. At 8 weeks old this buns is already bigger than our Buns at home, but has a completely different personality so far.

We love HER! I checked again when we got home. Definitely a girl. I said I thought we should name her jelly bean. Hubs thinks either Samantha ( from Bewitched) or Sassy (because he said her feet look like they belong to a sasquatch). Its still in the air. I set up the baby play yard for her to get used to us. It’s not an excersise pen but similar. It’s a lot taller and the openings are higher off the ground and denser. My daughter let Oz out ( I know, I know! We had a talk), but he just ran around the pen a time or two and then went to chew on his paperbox. We got him put back up pretty quickly. Hopefully I can get her spayed soon and start bonding them. I hope I can figure out a way to get pics up soon. She needs a good cleaning since she was an outside buns and was in an area with red dirt. She’s so sweet. She’s already climbing all over us and into our laps. I can’t wait to see her grow!

I thought a giant would be so great to own! Sadly, I currently don’t have the space for one. I hope they and you bond well! Have fun! I think I like the names Sassy and Jelly Bean! Both are so cute. =:3

Congratulations!!! I hope you can get a picture up-love giants!!

Be VERY careful about those two-maybe you can get your boy neutered asap-(though note that they can keep sperm for up to a month I’ve heard, so you want to keep them separate for one month after the neuter)

I plan to keep them separated completely. They are in separate rooms and the incident earlier was my fault for not explaining to my daughter why it’s so important to not allow them together. It definitely won’t be happening again until one or both are fixed. I’m going to call Monday and talk to my vet about who would be better to have fixed first. Ozzy is older, but he’s still pretty small. Soon to be named is already much bigger but younger.

I think so, too. We’ve decided on the name Sugar Plum to keep with a Christmas theme since she is my Christmas present. She has been following us everywhere. And her Binkys are so cute to see.

I think Ozzy is a handsome buns, too. Even if his scraggly neck hair does make him look like he might be part troll. . .
And, yes, we have two french bulldogs. The one in the picture is going through an identity crisis. He’s not sure if he’s dog or bunny. He let’s Ozzy cuddle with him and expects his share of carrot or apple when I’m passing out treats.

I know that type of food-wise identity-crisis, my dog is a sufferer too! Since I got the buns she’s realized that she absolutely loves kale, cabbage, carrots and bunny pellets. Thankfully she’s never been interested in hay, so the buns get to have that for themselves at least =)

French bulldogs are adorable dogs. I have a German Shepherd.

Bam, my grandmother has a German Shepard, also. He is the biggest gentle giant I’ve ever seen.

Little puffy tail, I would be divorced by now. Lol. I come from a long line of animal lovers and rescuers. We don’t have a shelter in our community, so I volunteer with a group of women who take it among themselves to rescue. We foster quiet a few animals at any given time, plus our personal pets.
