  Hi everyone, I’ve been working with my rabbit to increase his free-roaming space and had a few questions for those of you who have rabbits hopping about your home. Right now he has a large, two-level, full-time condo. I attach an x-pen when I let him out in the evenings. I started with the pen pretty small to monitor accidents and have been gradually making it bigger as he has been really great so far.
  
  For those of you with supervised free-range buns, how often (if ever) do they have accidents? Droppings are expected but I’m most interested in preventing urine accidents/marking. I realize all buns are different and they are bound to happen, but I’d just like to get an idea if it is possible to have him eventually be free-range in my bunny-proofed living room when I am with him in the evenings (3-5 hours).
  
  As of right now he hops back into his condo to use his litter box (no accidents in the x-pen). Any advice in terms of increasing the boundaries beyond the pen? We’re making progress and I don’t want to reach too far and have to start from scratch.
  
  He is six months old and neutered.

  No accidents ever of any sort.
  Lancelot and Guin: They share half a bedroom. I open the door at night and Lancelot plays in my bedroom. He has never peed or left a stray poop anywhere. He didn’t use the litterbox in my room or in the hallway. He always uses his box in his room. Guin won’t leave the room.
  Avalon and Morgana: They share the other half of that room. I haven’t let them out the room since they aren’t bonded with Lancelot and Guin, although they live happily side by side. No stray poops or pee anywhere. The room is 12×12.
  Depending on how many x-pens you have, you could start expanding a panel at a time. I would at least expand it to the hall outside the room.
  However – I just opened the door…

  Mine have free run of the middle floor of the townhouse. Hardly ever find a poop anywhere, never pee.

  Thank you both! It is really encouraging to hear it is possible. I think I might expand the x-pen panels every few days (if he behaves accordingly). Once I have exceeded my x-pen capabilities I’ll probably open them to use as “fences” so I can get him acclimated to half of the room first, then work up to the full space. Here’s to hoping! So glad to hear your buns have done so well. :]

  Be careful not to give him too much room too quickly. My bunnies have free range of the entire downstairs of my home- they are very good about not peeing, but yes a pellet here and there but no biggie. I let them upstairs with hallway and a bedroom, and every corner had pee in it – from both of them. Baby steps! Good luck!
