  I adopted a 3 year old dwarf Himalayan, Penelope, a little over a month ago. She is really cute and very curious. She has a big personality and is bossy.Her and my little lion head dwarf, Felix, were fully bonded within days of me getting her. The past few weeks I have noticed that she steals Felix’s food right out of his mouth. I have been having to separate them while feeding or giving treats, or even batting her away from him. Yesterday I saw that he was fed up with her doing this. So whenever he was around food and she came near, he would nip her until she ran away, sometimes even changing after her. I have been trying to feed her first so maybe she won’t steal his food, but she still is. She isn’t starving and I feed them every day. I separated her and Felix for an hour and then put him back in their pen and they were fine. Is there a way I can stop her from taking Felix’s food?

  My rabbits do this to each other. Their intake likely varys from day to day as a result but I take the rather laissez-fairs view that as long as they’re not losing weight, get some food and have access to hay they’re probably going to be alright.

  Any time that I have had a pair of rabbits, they would steal food from each other’s mouths. Sometimes having a tug of war with a long piece of greens. It sounds like your situation is just one sided, though, with Penelope stealing food from Felix, but he is not stealing food from her. I’m not sure if there is a way to stop Penelope from stealing food or not. You can try saying no and holding her down to the floor when she steals, but that might not do anything. Do they peacefully share hay or any food?

  They usually sit side by side taking turns eating out of the food bowl or eating the hay in their litter box. This is the first time I have ever seen him react like this towards her. Maybe he was just upset?

  Mine will do this with treats. He is always finished first and will steal hers right out of her mouth. I have seen her do it once to him, no scuffles ensue though.

  Rupert does this to Kahlua all the time. If it’s a special treat, I make sure to give her hers first, and then give him his. She’s come around and will steal it right back too.
