George and Marvin have been together since George was about two months and Marvin was about 8 weeks. They have recently been neutered and everything went sort of well for them. Marvin is healing perfectly and george had to have his stitches removed and glue applied due to him having a reaction to the stitches. They have been separated since a couple weeks before their neuters due to fighting. I noticed Marvin was beginning to sexually mature and that was when I began to find a vet to neuter them. There was small chasing and nipping incidents before Marvin began to develop, hardly any incidents once he developed, and about a month later it was full on attacks. Marvin was taken to CVS one early morning due to George breaking into his cage and attacking him, leaving him with a gash above his eye that required stitches. They are currently in a 3 cube wide by 7 cube long multistory C&C cage. George has the bottom floor and Marvin has the top. I have closed the ramps off with plywood and closed off any unnecessary openings. Even though there is no way for them to get to each other through the cage, when they have their play time, george will try to attack marvin through the cage and vise versa. I have also observed that marvins scent glands go crazy when ever he sees George or comes into any form of contact with him. When I say attack, I mean full out launching at each other and clamping down onto the other one through the C&C openings. I read several threads on fighting, but I could not find any that actually was full out trying to kill each other. Most that I found were just chasing and nipping. Since they have been acting like this, I have been giving them play time in separate rooms of the house.
Am I ever going to be able to rebond them?
Should I place one in the outside hutch again for a little while?
Is there a way to help Marvin’s scent glands not be so pungent and strong?
