        So I have been having problems with my bunny, Lucy, choking and sneezing. She’s on antibiotics right now for a upper respiratory infection but her sneezing and choking doesn’t seem to be clearing up just yet. She’s only been on the medicine for 2 weeks. I went to two different rabbit savvy vets, one is my regular and the other was for a second opinion. They both checked out Lucy and initially didn’t hear much upper respiratory straining. I asked for an X-ray to be done, and both of them said she has an abnormally narrow trachea. They even posted the X-ray on a bunny specialist board for more opinions, and several other vets had said on the board that the trachea was abnormally narrow.

        I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this problem before? Neither of my vets have any idea what could be making Lucy choke. She can eat her food, so they are mostly ruling out teeth problems. In order to get a more thorough exam they want to have Lucy go to Cornell university and be put under anesthesia, then have a scope put down her to see what is going on with her trachea. But honestly it will be really expensive and I don’t want to put Lucy under anesthesia unless it’s absolutely necessary. As of right now her choking has mostly stopped and she’s more sneezing consistently.

        Again, please let me know if you have any idea why her treachea could be narrow, or why she may be choking/sneezing?

        Thank you!!

          The only thing I can think of is if there is some swelling and/or scarring. Perhaps as result of her being intubated incorrectly in the past. I hope you and the vets are able to find a treatment that will help with her breathing problems! {{{Lucy}}}

              Do rabbits get intubated during a spay? Thanks for your input! It is so stressful, she’s just constantly sneezing and It’s so hard going to two rabbit savvy vets and neither of them are able to help me!

                  Do rabbits get intubated during a spay?

                  I *think* it’s routine… But some vets may not do so as it is tricky to intubate a rabbit.

                  Were the x-rays of her chest and head?

                  Have they thoroughly checked her molars and oral tissue?  I recall a member here had a rabbit who had problems due to a growth in the inner cheek.Sometimes they need to sedate the rabbit to do a thorough exam.
