We recently adopted a new rabbit, Cha Cha, and successfully bonded her to our little lop boy, Evi. When they were going on dates, we couldn’t help but notice an overwhelmingly musky smell in the room… and even though they now share a cage, quite happily, the muskiness hasn’t totally gone away. Both are fixed, Evi for over a year, Cha Cha since June. Before we got Cha Cha, I never noticed any muskiness at all, so I’m fairly sure it’s coming from her.

Cha Cha just had her first vet visit, and had her anal glands cleaned…but they weren’t even that bad! I was brave enough to sniff the q-tips and I wasn’t even sure it was the same smell. Vet seems to think she’s healthy, but didn’t give any great suggestions about what the stink’s about.

Any ideas? Maybe the musky smell’s been in the cage so long, it just needs some time to dissipate?
