Alright so this is going to be a LONG post but please bear with me because the internet has scared me…
Philomena was recently hospitalized for an obstruction of the cecum (about a week almost two weeks ago). Shes been fine sine they sedated her and manually broke up the obstruction. She was on Meloxicam and Cisapride. She has stopped those medications Wednesday. Her diet has been mostly hay (tim and orchard) with kale, parsley and cilantro. I haven’t been giving pellets or treats as of late because I cannot afford another $1000 vet bill as of right now. I’m letting her body have extra fiber and goodness for a while so she can fully recover.
This is where I’m starting to get worried… Philomena has been drinking A LOT! Like two bowl full a day. She has also been peeing it all out. Her urine is clear and thin with no calcium residue left over. When I say she’s peeing a lot I mean that she has peed 5 times in the span of 20 minutes. She will pee while drinking… She has also been partially incontinent. She has also been a bottomless pit. She has been eating hay like no ones business. I haven’t limited her hay intake at all.
I looked up her symptoms and they are calling polyuria and polydipsia. It can be caused by many things (drugs, diabetes, kidney failure, ect.) I looked up diabetes and it says that it can be accompanied by excessive hunger.
I think she may just be bored drinking or its still just a side effect from her meds. I’m really not in a position to take her to the vet again to run more expensive tests. The internet is scaring me telling me things that could be wrong when actually this could be normal. It would mean a lot if you guys could just tell me that I may be overreacting.
If this behavior lasts for 2 weeks I’ll take her to the vet. But for now I just need someone to tell me that this could be a normal reaction to her meds or shes just bored.
