So I finally remembered my original account’s password haha. So I just got Butterscotch’s second week of penicillin shots (he had one last week too) after the vet saw his one eardrum was burst. Other one is fine and both ears have no redness. He doesn’t dig at them and they were never hot to the touch. He never stopped eating, drinking, peeping, pooping or acting like a normal bunny. He just always looks slightly confused (haha) and has a little trouble with balancing here and there, but goes in/out of his litter box with ease.
So my question is: Has anyone here had a bun with an ear infection and used penicillin to treat it? How effective was it?
Before giving Butterscotch the penicillin they wanted to give me baytril. Had that with my poor Gizmo and he turned full anorexic. She said that was a big possibility with Butterscotch too. I told her I would rather not since he’s eating/drinking now and I don’t want to change that. And he’s only 4 going on 5 months old.
I’m just worried since the vet did tell me there was a chance we would have to do baytril after the 3 weeks of penicillin shots because baytril covers a broader spectrum of bacteria. I don’t know, this is all new to me. I dealt with it with a chinchilla but it was much different than with a rabbit. He seems completely okay other than his ever so slight head tilt.
Not sure if it matters, but he’s a Holland Lop and weights 2.73lb at 4 months old. He is not neutered yet but I plan on it as soon as he is 6 months old and the ear infection is gone.
