Hi all,
So Snowball had his neuter almost 3 weeks ago and two post op-checks in which everything was looking great. Last night however, I checked his wound as usual and noticed it was much more pink and possibly less ‘shriveled’ than usual. I also noticed he was way more jumpy about being checked down there whereas normally he’s pretty chill. He seemed to be eating and pooping fine but some poops looked more ‘moist’ than the usual dry pellets. So we saw the vet today and when he tried to feel the sack, Snow was NOT having it. So it does seem like he’s in pain.
Vet doesnt think there’s any swelling and that the pinkness could be a result of his licking down there, something he stopped doing a few days post-surgery but appears to be doing more of today. As for his dodgy-looking pellets, vet thinks they could be a leadup to diarrhea. Therefore he sent us away with the same routine as post-neuter: 3 days metacam (0.26ml) & fibreplex (x3/day).
I should add here that our usual vet was absent today and this guy did not appear to be at all rabbit-savvy. That said, I do think he has a point about going in with the metacam today as a preventative measure – Im just uneasy about pain meds for rabbits, being so sensitive as they are.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? Is metacam in that dosage generally safe to give? FYI, he’s a dwarf hotot of around 1kg in weight.
Any help would be hugely appreciated
