So someone told me they had a baby rabbit and wanted to know if i was interested in keeping it since i have a lot of pet experience. Well I wanna make sure it gets a good home and i am a sucker for rabbits… I don’t know anything about how large the cage should be, what they like to play with, or if their cages should have multiple levels going upwards. Do rabbits like to have den boxes? Like boxes filled with hay or some other material to burrow inside of like rats or gerbils? Also if i took him or her, it couldn’t roam free in my house because I’m so scared a dog may get him.. I’m good at keeping animals away when i play with my rats and such but i don’t trust my other house hold members. Any large free roam cage like things i could rig to the cage so he or she can go in and out and be safe?

First of all, rabbit cages need to be at least 2×4 feet of floor space, and while levels can be nice, they do not add to the floor space. If there are going to be dogs around unsupervised, make sure that the cage is very secure. A dog crate might be a good option.
Bunnies like to play with a lot of things. Try baby toys, anything made from willow, jingle balls, stuffed toys (be careful your bunny doesn’t chew), toilet roll tubes, and brown paper bags. Rabbits don’t need “den boxes” though they do like a place to hide, such as a cardboard box. If you do want to fill a box with hay, that is just fine, be aware the bunny may poop in it.
You can attach an xpen to the cage, but that’s probably not your safest option. Maybe try using an outdoor rabbit run inside?
