Hi All, 

I am hoping to get some advice here on indoor rabbit caging (hutches in particular). I am seriously considering adopting a mini lop rabbit who is at the animal shelter I work at. I am a vet tech, but this will be my first bunny in my adult life, and I want to make sure I do things right. My biggest concern is housing, as I want to give this guy plenty of room. He will be allowed to free range most of the time, and I have a large and secure outdoor enclosure where he can spend some time during the day in the warmer months outside (he would never be out there when I wan’t home–and never left out overnight). 

That being said, I still want him to have a nice place to go to in my home where he can be put away but still happy. I am not interested in the classic rabbit hutch with one level, a tiny amount of space and a wire floor. I am not at all handy, so I am looking to purchase something. C and C cages do nothing for me, I want something the is super sturdy. An x-pen is an option, but again, I would like something sturdier. I have dogs (who are around my small birds and rats all of the time without issue, zero prey drive), but they do like to eat anything edible, so I am assuming that would include rabbit pellets, veggies and probably poop .

If they can get into it, they will. I am planning on introducing the bunny to my dogs slowly, to ensure I do not frighten the bun. 

I have been looking at different types of hutches, and I like the looks and the size of some of them. Most of them seem to have two floors and a decent amount of space. The reviews on some of the products are less than impressive, so I was hoping for some honest feedback here. I want something sturdy, spacious and practical. Of course, the most important thing is that the rabbit is happy with it! 

Most of the outdoor hutches with two levels have no floor on the bottom level, which is fine–I will cover my flooring with something appropriate on the bottom. 

So, does anyone use a “hutch” inside? Pros/cons of different commercially made hutches?
