In a way, I was a bit picky, though most of my pickiness was just convenience (no mega-long fur, larger size, nice temperament etc). With my first rabbit, Tossu, I knew I wanted a large rabbit (but not a giant), a male, and definitely a rabbit with uppy ears as they’re more traditionally “rabbit” to me. My main concerns were size and temperament, as I wanted a rabbit large enough to be easily noticeable on the floor so we’d be less likely to step on him.
A New Zealand Red ticked all the boxes, so I set out to find an NZR breeder, which I did – and that’s how I got Tossu!
With Sukka, my other rabbit, I was picky in regards to breed and gender, since I wanted a female to be Tossu’s girlfriend. I’ve wanted a French lop for years and years, so I decided to go make my dream come true and set out to find a French lop. While I was originally a little hesitant to get such a large rabbit, Tossu (who is around 4kg) seems so small to me now that a giant didn’t seem so big and scary after all. Sukka, in particular, was chosen because my boyfriend saw a picture of her and fell in love. We went to get her the very next week!
