I got my most recent bunny spayed a few days ago, and my other bunny was neutered the month before, so as of yet I haven’t started the bonding process – Though both of their cages are in my room and as I let one out, they play through the cage bars, usually my male bunny hopping around her cage and my female bunny chasing him! That, or they occasionally lay either sides of their cages next to each other or sniff and kiss through the bars!

This morning, Binky was laying outside Bashfuls cage, him in the exact position on the other side, and she allowed me to stroke her for a little while… But as I put my finger into Bashfuls cage and let him kiss my finger, Binky lunged for my hand and started scratching at me?

She has only ever done this once before, when I first got her and was cleaning out her cage – but never since! She’s definitely not as loving as Bashful was when I got him, he took to me within days and was kissing me constantly, but I thought I was finally starting to bond with her over the past few months! Is this a hormone thing that’ll die down now that she is spayed, or is she always going to be like this when I try to pet my other bunny around her?

You should expect her hormones to be out of whack for a while now after the spay – that’s common and normal but often not super-nice since it could mean she gets aggressive and territorial etc. It’s not indicative of how she’ll behave once her hormones have died down though.

Wait like a month for her to “come to her senses”. She may have seen Bashful as an intruder when you let him lick your finger (after all, you are more closely bonded to her than he is), and since she couldn’t reach Bashful to put him in his place, you became the target for her anger. Or sth like that. Anyway, bear with her, she’s not herself right now.
