  My rabbit recently has a urine burn and from the side of her legs (both of them) theres some fur loss im afraid she will get a flystrike how can I treat her urine burn? also how can I prevent a flystrike? ive been giving her a butt bath to clean out the urine on her fur due to this site http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/buttbath.html

  A butt-bath is good. You can then put on a barrier cream to protect her from effects of urine on the skin. Then you need to find out why she gets urine burn. Could she have a urinary tract infection? Some kidney-problem?
  
  Is she housed outside? Fly-strike is a problem for buns housed outside. There are some insect-repellants you can use against fly-strike at least in the UK, but I don’t know about the USA. Here’s one type sold in the UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beaphar-Fly-Guard-Month-75ml/dp/B002GT4PMW

  We have actually put some cream to protect her skin from the urine burn she is housed outside but at the night we take her in but im still worried she might get a flystrike. Im going to take her to the vet soon so we can find out the problem and they’ll help her I dontt know why she got a urine burn but im thinking it could be a kidney problem or maybe something else im not sure I have another question to ask be she has been drinking a lot of water for the past few days now is this because of the urine burn?

  I would think she has some kind of health-problem, possibly a kidney/bladder-problem that’s causing her to drink more. So that it’s all connected. Not that she drinks more due to urine burn, but she drinks more for some reason, she pees more because she drinks more, and that makes her skin wet with urine, and that’s how she got the urine burn. That’s my thinking.
  
  Drinking a lot a lot and consequently peeing a lot (polydipsia and polyuria in medicine-speak) is an observandum in any animal. It may signify any number of health-problems ranging from minor to major. So I really think you should see a vet and bring a urine-sample (if you can get her to pee in an empty litter-box and then pour it into a clean glass jar f ex).
  
  Is she spayed? Uterine/ovarian problems may cause a bunny to drink and pee excessively.
  
  As for flystrike, you have to try and keep her clean and check her hind quarters very carefully every night. If she has any type of open sores it’s not safe for her outside since flies of course love to lay their eggs in open sores.

  She is spayed, I im always checking her bottom for right now were taking her in because outside its very hot and she can get a flystrike due to the hot weather that were having. She doesn’t have any open sores so that’s a relief for me. she growing fur on both of her legs that had fur loss due to the urine burn, we take her a butt bath and once her bottom is dry we put cream on it we don’t wash her everyday so she wont get stressed out. I have another question to ask but how to you clean out the urine stains on her fur or do we have to take her to the vet so they can figure out something to take off the urine stains on her fur?

  As for urine stains, I only find that you can spray the stained fur with a water/vinegar solution and then work cornstarch in until all the wetness from the water/vinegar is gone, then brush out the cornstarch. I don’t know if this is a safe method though. I’m hoping someone else here might know. It seems people who show white bunnies use this method but that doesn’t gurantee that it’s safe.
