Hi and welcome to Binky Bunny. Some rabbits can be picky about hay so you might have to try some different varieties and brands before you find some that your rabbit likes. If she is a young rabbit, less than 7 or 8 months old, she can have alfalfa hay. That is a very fragrant hay that a lot of bunnies love. Or you could sprinkle a tiny bit on her Timothy hay to entice her to eat. Many rabbits love orchard grass because it is sweeter. Meadow hay is another hay that you could try. If she is an adult, close to 1 year old, her pellets should be limited according to her weight. If she is an adult, you may have to cut back on her pellets to make her eat hay.

I only got my bunny a week ago and I had the same problem. All my bunny seemed to be interested in was the treats, greens and pellets I was giving him and not the meadow hay I had down. Then I noticed his poop was very different and I started to worry about how many extra ‘treats’ I was feeding him. So I cut back on extras and was very strict about the other food I was giving him. I also went and bought Timothy hay and some other foliage hay to try him on that. All of a sudden he has started chopping away on the meadow hay. I am by far an expert but I found that we were filling him up on greens and pellets so he wasn’t interested in eating anything else. It’s just trial and error I guess. As long as u make sure it is available for your bunny all the time I’m sure she’ll find it soon

Just out of curiosity, what kind of pellets have you been feeding her and how much?

My newest bunny wouldn’t eat hay either. I was trying 1st and 2nd cut timothy, not interested. I tried orchard grass from the pet store, he wouldn’t touch it. I was stuffing empty toilet roll holders with hay as a chew toy, I changed the hay in his litterbox every day, but he would’t touch it. I tried 2nd cut orchard hay from the feed store, he started chomping on it 🙂 I’ve read about trying different toys/tricks to get the bunny to eat hay, but if he doesnt’ like the taste or doesnt’ think it is food-worthy, then toys/tricks might not work. Try a few types. A bale of hay is inexpensive – but large. So if he doesnt’ like it, then you have a large bale of hay that he won’t eat. Perhaps ask your local feed store for samples. I got a sample of alfalfa hay once. My bunnies all liked it.
You could also try fresh grass, and then start including hay in the fresh grass. But my bun wouldn’t eat grass… so it was only when I brought home a bale of 2nd cut orchard that he ate it. I figured if he didn’t eat it, my other buns would. Luckily he did 🙂 Keep trying.
