Hello everyone, I’ve been reading lots of threads about these issues and none have helped me understand my bunny’s problems. This is my first post, so I shall introduce you to my little bunny. She’s a netherland dwarf (though I think she doesn’t have the dwarf gene given her morphology) 5 months old named Sunny. She’s always eaten healthy and been treated well, but in the past and present she developed two heath issues that I’m going to explain:
About two months ago I noticed she had some dandruff and skin flaking (no hair loss), and when I looked very closely I saw two or three little yellow dots moving over her skin or hairs. It didn’t seem to bother her but I took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with lice. The vet gave her a treatment with Stronghold selamectin, but as I saw a severe flaking on the inoculation spot I decided to give her ivermectin a month later instead. At these days she still has a minor skin flaking all over her body but there’s no other sign of infestation, I don’t think it’s bothering her either. However she tends to scratch her ears often, but I see nothing in that area. From now and then I feel some rough spots on her skin but it’s just a dry flake or some human-like dry pimple (nothing to worry about, I think).
Moving on to the other subject haha in summary, she has smelly poops xD. This started about a month ago, after a vacation trip we did to the coast. Maybe it was caused by the stress, cause her diet didn’t change. I give her the Owbow’s young rabbit food and timothy hay, so she eats a lot of fibre. What I noticed is that after the trip she started eating too much pellets and less hay, and so the smelly poop problem began xD. I now restrict her the pellet intake so she eates more hay, but the problem continues… Sometimes (like twice a week) she doesn’t eat her cecotrophs, I don’t know why. She never had any diarrhea. Describing the poops… xD they are normal, hard rounded poops, with dark surface but clear brown insides. Normally they come with a thin layer of mucus that gives the dark brown coloration to the surface. I will try to upload some photos. I’ve given her different vegetables, tried to make her eat more hay and less pellets, but the poop won’t seem to go back to its normal non-smelling state xDD
For the rest, she’s a very playful and healthy bunny, that loves to be petted
Sorry if something was unclear, I’m not a native english speaker ^^”
