  Any of your bunnies have a low appetite ? This started to happen in May this year. Moshu used to eat like a pig till March this year, then her appetite went down gradually. In May she stopped eating at all – I had to give her Cyproheptadine (Periactin) for a week or two. We got her checked – X-Ray to rule out any kidney stones, stool tests, got her ears and teeth checked. Everything was fine. The doctor suggested its just because of change in weather (start of summer and humidity). We kept her on an ayurvedic syrup (Its name is Liv.52) and gradually her appetite increased.
  
  However, if I still compare, she still doesnt eat as much as she used to last year. I sometimes give her yeast and other probiotic supplements (Anima Strath). She eats, but not as enthusiastically as she used to till the beginning of this year.
  
  Do some rabbits show a general decline in their appetite as they grow up ?

  I have heard mentions of bunnies eating less as they reach adulthood, and indeed a fully-grown bunny ideally should eat less than a growing youngster. But most bunnies I think keep a voracious appetite.
  
  How old is Moshu?
  
  I’d never heard of periactin as an appetite-stimulant, but looked it up now. Interesting! Didn’t it make her very drowsy? I remember having to take periactin for my cat- allergy as a kid when I was invited to friends who had cats. It invariably made me fall asleep.

  Moshu is about 1 year and 3 months old.
  
  Periactin has been very helpful in the past. I have used it during episodes of stasis as well. However the vet told me not to use it for more than a few days and use it only when she doesnt eat at all. She also said animals can get hooked to it and may have other side effects. Its been long I have given it to her. Moshu sleeps through most of the day. So I couldnt make out any difference after giving her periactin.

  I just thought I should check back on this thread. If Moshu wasn’t eating enough, she’d lose weight. If sth was really wrong with her, I’d think you’d see abnormal poop. Poop is kind of a guide to bunny health.
  I hope someone with more experience in rabbits with low appetite will see this thread.
