Most people will suggest letting them have their freedom, and I think I’m more on that side. Picking them up can frighten them and make them uncomfortable. I only pick mine up when its cage time.

To build comfort with a little one, a lot of people suggest letting them roam in their area outside of the cage that you block out for them (for example, my buns own the whole living room) and just kinda sitting/laying in the middle of the floor and letting them do their own thing. Eventually they will get curious and come up to you. Mine always nose-bump me then walk on my back like I’m a mountain, even when they were just little ones. This, of what Ive been told, shows you aren’t a threat. Then you can try to pet them Once mine got more comfortable with jumping and running, we moved to the couch and soon enough they began jumping on our laps when they were ready to calm down and would let them pet them til they fell asleep

My oldest one, Midnight, I did actually hold her quite a bit when she was little, which she didn’t like much and would start squirming. Buns do have fragile backs so squirming can definitely harm them. I quickly changed to only holding her when she allowed me or when she was really tired (buns aren’t going to fight when they want sleepy snuggles!)

Little buns can be like little children. You hold a little child all day and they will want to play play play!
