Hi! I just got my first bunny yesterday, Hazel, and have done a lot of research into bunnies. But there is one thing I didn’t think to consider, my daughter and I have a gluten allergy and our rabbit is on a high gluten pellet. I have been looking into any alternatives, and found one brand of pellet that is gluten free, Sherwood Forest. Does anyone know of other gluten free rabbit pellets? Has anyone tried the Sherwood Forest pellets and have an opinion on them?
Also, any opinions on flax seeds? I know seeds are generally bad for rabbits, but it is the only option I have found without gluten. And I have also considered that clay is generally considered bad for rabbits (in the litter) but pretty much all of the brands of rabbit pellet I have looked at the ingredient list includes sodium bentonite clay inside the pellets. So which one would be worse, the clay or flax seeds?
I know I need to take it slow, but I am honestly eager to get her off of the pellets with gluten in them. When can I start the transition and how long should the transition period take with an 8 week old bunny?
Any recommendations on going forward with a pellet free, or limited pellet diet after she matures?
Thank you for your advice!
