I was not a good bunny mom, and am kicking myself repeatedly.
So those scented candle burners? I use them frequently. I love the smells, and the ease of them being electric. And it makes my apartment smell fabulous. Because of Speckles, I normally keep it on the coffee table, with the cord wrapped so she can’t get to it. Well…. Yesterday she decided that launching herself onto my coffee table was the best idea. She she launched herself directly into the wax burner.
My poor baby was soaked in the wax, mainly her ears and the back of her neck. She squealed, loud enough it almost sounded like a scream. We grabbed her, and immediately went to cool the area and begin to remove the wax. And because we cooled it first, to try and stop her from getting further burned, the wax hardened so we couldn’t get it off her ears. A friend came to grab us and we rushed to the vet.
She has some minor burns along her ears, and some serious skin irritation from the wax. Her poor ears are missing chunks of fur, and are bright red. The vet gave us some cream for her ears and anywhere else we may notice irritated skin, and a second cream for the burns to put on twice a day. She hates the creams, and it is a fight to apply them.
I’m kicking myself repeatedly because I should have been using the wax burner somewhere she can’t reach. She seems okay today other than red skin, and some small blistering along her ears.
