Hi all,
My Netherland dwarf, Bashful, is going to be 1 years old this month, and he was neutered 2 weeks ago… He has completely gone back to normal, as expected he was a little grumpy with me at first, but he’s binkying and zooming around and back to giving me kisses!
We sectioned off part of my room when he was young and built him a castle corner, rather than a store bought cage, and he gets let out of his castle every day for long periods of time to have free roam of my bedroom! I even made a little bunny play area with tunnels underneath my bed!
Anyway, it’s my 21st birthday and as an early present for both me and Bashful, my mum has bought me a beautiful 16 week old Netherland dwarf female! Now I know that it’s best to wait until she’s spayed and they’re both healed to start the bonding process, which I’m sure I will have lots of questions about when the time comes…
But my question is: even though she is unspayed, is it okay to have her store bought cage in my room, even though Bashful probably considers that space his? He has free roam of my bedroom so often that I’m sure he considers the entire room his cage and not just his castle! I can let them both out into my room one at a time but I am worried about him being able to approach her cage and feeling she is invading his home?
I know it is best to introduce them in a neutral place that neither of them have been, but I have no where else to keep her apart from my room, and I don’t want him to feel territorial? Once I start bunny play dates I can possibly use the bath tub, or persuade my mum to bunny proof downstairs! (I’ve nearly convinced her! The buns are taking over the house slowly but surely!)
Bashful was my first ever bunny and although I’ve had nearly a year of experience and a lot of help from all of you wonderful bunny experts, keeping and bonding two rabbits is a new experience for me!
(My mum didn’t know all of the struggles of bonding and just thought I would be able to put them into the same cage and they would instantly be friends…)
