I have been debating about getting a little sister for my neutered mini lop, Fatbit, for a couple of months now. I know I want to get a doe because I’ve heard and read that it’s more difficult having two bucks together, even if they’re neutered. A local shelter just put up two spayed mini lop does on their website and now I’m seriously thinking about adopting one. Tomorrow I might bring him out to meet them to see if he gets along with one of them. If all goes well, I would pick her up next week (I’m out of town this weekend). Now I have some questions about bonding (I already read the article).
I plan to have their bonding sessions out in the living room in an ex-pen, but I will need to have her cage next to Fatbit’s. They won’t be out in HIS territory (my bedroom) until they are bonded and I can trust them together. I want to do the “dummy” method with his scent and her scent on stuffed animals so they get used to each other. I guess my biggest concern is if either one will be upset if I have their cages next to each other while they’re in during the day. I can put a divider between them so they can’t see each other.
Has anyone else done it this way? Fatbit is my first bunny so I have no experience in bonding bunnies. Hoping it all goes smoothly!
