  Okay, so here’s my problem.
  
  Our family has a pet rabbit and we need to take care of it… which means we need to figure out a way to keep my rabbit cared for if we go on vacation.
  
  I’ve suggested pet sitters to my mom, and she said no to that… she doesn’t like the idea of a person coming in our house while we are gone, which is understandable. She said no to even having a friend or relative come over to care for him.
  
  Okay, next I thought maybe boarding him would be good, but no one in my family will pay for the expensive boarding fees and I read that boarding will stress out the rabbit.
  
  Our family doesn’t like airplanes, so that isn’t a problem so I figured bringing my bunny along in a car trip would be okay, but that would stress him out and my other family members do not think it’s a good idea because pet friendly hotels cost extra…
  
  Bringing him to a friends house is an option too, but that would stress out my rabbit a lot also.
  
  So what should I do?

  Generally bunnies get over the stress pretty quickly. If you think your bunny may be more prone to being stressed, how about you do a dry run where you let him spend a couple of nights at your friends house while you are home, so that if he does freak out and stop eating you are available to deal with it.

  My guys never minded riding in the car…I took two rabbits when I moved from Vermont to Mississippi (24 hours in the car, 2 hotel stays) and they were fine. Pet friendly hotels usually aren’t more expensive either…both hotels we stayed at, we just called ahead and said we had a rabbit, and they said it was fine. There would have been a fee if the rabbit messed anything up, but that’s all. I think it’s becoming more popular to travel with pets too – I actually read an article not too long ago about several hotel chains that were going pet-friendly at all their locations.

  You should give him a soft toy or a blankie that you’ve rubbed onto your own skin so he has your familiar scent with him on sth he can cuddle up to if he needs to. I would think boarding him with a friend would be the least stressful option for him. It’s better than boarding him in a pet hotel because that’s not home-like and it’s better than bringing him along because travelling is not really a bunny’s forte.

  I just recently went through this. Our friend that Mr. Binkins is very familiar with came over and stayed with him. So it would probably work out well if he boarded with a friend, if it’s someone who has spent a lot of time with him. That would probably make him a lot more comfortable with you being gone.
