Hey, everyone! I know I use to be on this forum a couple of years ago and, of course, I cannot remember my old username or email or anything, so I figured I would rejoin.
Months ago I made the hardest decision of my life and rehomed Loki, our dutch bunny. I cried all the way home and regretted it every day since. Well, two days ago, I was scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed and saw photos of a little dutch bunny on a local “pets for sale” site and thought, “Awh, that looks like Loki.” Imagine my surprise – it WAS Loki! I immediately messaged the woman who I had rehomed him to and asked her to let me come and pick him back up, which she did. I don’t believe this home was the right fit for him, after all, and the woman told me that he had not used his litter box for the entire stay at her home and “it was not working out” because he wasn’t cuddly with her seven year old daughter. Of course my face must have looked like
as she was telling me this, but I just nodded and left. I believe he was beyond stressed out and he was so petrified when he came back to our home. Now he’s bright eyed and eating well again and feeling very comfortable back where he belongs.
This morning, I took Loki to the vet who checked him out and said he looks just perfect. I schedule an appointment to have him neutered next week, something we had been putting off for a long time, being that he is going on 7 years. Does anyone know about neutering older bunnies? My vet stated that he looked very healthy for his age and he doesn’t foresee any issues with the actual surgery. Loki isn’t a habitual sprayer, I don’t believe. When he is in his “bunny room” he uses his litterbox just fine. But when he goes into other parts of the house for longer periods he will mark areas and try to hump the cat
haha. I’m hoping neutering him will quell these behaviors. Any thoughts on this?
