Hey everyone, I’m hoping you all can give me some advice on an imminent situation. My girl bunny, Asia, was recently diagnosed with Thymoma (a form of cancer). The treatments are incredibly expensive, and due to cost of the treatments, other health issues, and other factors, we have decided to keep Asia comfortable (fat and happy) for the next few months.
My main concern (besides her comfort, of course), is helping her mate, Ozzie, cope with the loss when the time comes. Based on your experiences, how long should I wait before attempting to find him a new mate? We still live near the rescue we got him from, and I plan on contacting them prior to the situation so that we don’t have to wait on the application process, but I don’t want to either push Ozzie too early or make him suffer alone (frankly he’s not a big people bun, he really just sees me as a giant treat giver, so I know he’ll be miserable alone).
Thank you for any help you all can give me! These two are my first buns, so this is my first time coping with this whole process.
