I’m not sure what I’ll be doing for Fourth of July! I’m just glad tomorrow is my Friday at work

I don’t think we’re doing anything, which is very disappointing seeing a how the fourth of July is my favorite holiday…living somewhere where you know no one really puts a damper on holidays

Yesterday was my birthday and it was a total bust, so I’m hoping the 4th plays out a little better, lol. At least I’m off work Friday! My husband is working, so I’m planning on taking the baby to my aunt’s house and spending the day by the pool. Swimming, sunning, snacking, and sending Rodan+Fields emails from the poolside. Sounds good to me.

I’m going to be gone for pretty much the next couple weeks.

We’re not doing anything, either. One exciting thing though, they legalized aerial fireworks here in Georgia today, can you believe it?! First they legalized alcohol sales on Sundays a couple of years ago, and now THIS?! They’re on a roll!!

I’m getting kind of tired of Ruby Tuesday’s. We went there the other day, we both had the salad bar. Neither one of us quite finished our second plates, we each had maybe three spoonfuls of food left. Was barely worth taking home, but we asked for to go boxes anyway. The waitress just looked at us, shocked, for a couple of seconds. You would have thought we had asked her for one of her kidneys. She finally turned around, reluctantly, to get us the boxes. I guess for some reason she thought because we had the salad bar we weren’t entitled to our mouthful of leftovers. I could have understood her reaction if we had stuffed ourselves, then loaded up two more plates to take home, but this was ridicules. She basically acted like we were trying to steal. This wasn’t the first time this happened, either. They would just throw it in the trash anyway, so what is their problem? Makes me not want to go back there.

Andi: Good luck with Blair’s appointment, I hope it all goes as planned!

Hazel, I don’t like that kind of attitude at restaurants! I used to work customer service and now I kind of have high expectations in terms of service now haha! I moved to a city where there are lots of small businesses/mom and pop restaurants. The service is really different and the food is really good.

I feel old here I wish I was 21 again lol

Hazel – the waitress just sounds like she was being a little cranky. Like you said, it’s not like you went and built two brand new salads to take home. Silly folks.

Does everybody else hate job-hunting as much as I do??? I despise my current job (all the stereotypes about crooked car salesmen? Pretty true)…I’m poking around, looking for another “real” job to work until my direct sales job really takes off, and I just haaaaate filling out loads of job applications. I just wanna be like, “Hush, I’m fabulous and you want me to work here. Hire me. Thank you”

ChaCha: That particular restaurant seems to have a bit of an attitude problem, anyway. Every time we go there, the hostess is almost rude, like we’re inconveniencing her by showing up. Kind of ironic, considering her job is to make people feel welcome… You’re right, it seems like little mom and pop places care much more about customer service.

BunsAndDolls: A different waitress there did the same thing, a while back. Makes me think they have some sort of policy regarding the salad bar and leftovers?! But that seems silly.

Hello, all! I just wanted to post and let everyone know that Tilly, Zoey, the hubby and I have not forgotten you. I admit that I have not kept up with or caught up with any of the forums… but I do miss you all. It’s been hard without Pete, but Tilly and Zoey are slowly starting to get along quite a bit better since our period of mourning. I’m not really in a position to be back yet, but will be back soon with lots of Tilly and Zoey to update you on.

Everyone kinda got off the 4th of july plans but I thought I’d still throw mine out there.  I have pretty bad social anxiety and hate going anywhere with lots of people. The 4th is my husbands favorite holiday.  I am contemplating surprising him by bucking up and going to Washington D.C. to see the fireworks (we are less than 40 minutes away).  I haven’t told him yet because I’m too afraid i’ll back out and let him down, I know he would understand but it stinks!  Otherwise we will probably buy some fireworks and let ’em rip right at home.

Hazel the ruby tuesdays we used to go to charged extra to take leftovers from the salad bar.  Maybe the waitress just doesn’t want to have to charge you extra but doesn’t want to get into trouble?  especially since its a small amount of food.

Yeah, that’s my usual method of attack, haha..  I personally can’t stand online applications.  It’s so impersonal.  It’s taken my husband FOREVER to find a new job because his work history makes it look like he can’t hold a job for more than a few years, but if they’d actually TALK to him, they’d realize there were valid reasons for him leaving…ya know, like, getting married and moving to a new country.  LOL – luckily, he got a new job today!  8-5, no more pizza delivery…yay!

Shannon, good luck with your fireworks…I’ve got a bit of social anxiety as well.  It kinda presents itself as claustrophobia when I get in large groups of people.  It’s taken me a LONG time to get around it.  I love going to Comic Conventions, and it was ROUGH at first, haha.  Hopefully y’all will make it to the fireworks, I’m sure it’s amazing!

Fourth of July… ugh, I have to work BECAUSE it is the Fourth that weekend. I hate not getting paid holidays. Everyone else where I work gets a 3 day weekend. I have to work, otherwise I will be shorted a day of pay.

Shannon, I don’t like crowds. They make me feel overwhelmed. I am kind of a homebody, but I like going to places.. as long as it isn’t too crowded. Last year, my boyfriend and I went to his parent’s house for a BBQ and just watched fireworks from the front. The neighbors were setting stuff off all around the neighborhood so it made it easy ;p

Koucha does super well with fireworks. The noise doesn’t freak her out, as well as barking dogs. She knows she is home safe ;p

She’s going to be 2 years old on August 7th. And my dog will be 4 on August 31st.

CT- Glad to hear you are back and everyone is holding up well. Cannot wait to hear some updates of the cat and Tilly!

Em of COURSE it’s your right to start a new Chat thread!! For the Fourth my sister and her family are staying with us from now through the weekend. Since fireworks are legal here, hubby had to go spend $50-60 on them today…but earlier kinda complained about the $100 I spent at the grocery store. Boys and their toys! Took forever to get rid of the majority of fur in Gus’ room, My bro-in-law isn’t used to animals in the house but Gus was drawn right to him like cats do to people who don’t like them. He also went around and had to lick everyone’s legs ha ha (Gus…not my BIL)

Applying for jobs sucks. I spent about 3-4 months applying, sending out resumes and cover letters and just never hearing anything back. And I have a strong resume! I finally got my current job through a random encounter. It is totally true that bypassing HR is the best way to go if you can. Also, I work for an excellent firm now, but I really hate my actual job and one of the things keeping me there is knowing that I don’t want to go through the search again! Plus, you know, money. And not wanting to look flaky on my resume.

No big plans for the 4th here. Have Friday off and am looking forward to relaxing a bit with my bf before he leaves next week for a little while. He has to work on the 4th, so I’ll probably go visit him there and we can watch fireworks and eat and stuff.

just a little update from the farm: my sis is getting married now on July 25 so we’ve been in a flurry of plans, sewing, and remodeling a house over here! and with 7 new calves to feed every day and 14 horses to care for (never mind the cattle) and 2 batches of kittens, a multitude of cats and 3 dogs and a dear little bunny chores arent scarce!
Harry has been doing quite well! ive taken to putting large ice cubes in the downstairs of his hutch, (in the dirt) for him to lie next to, he doesnt do much with it when im around but if i sneak up on him i catch him licking or nibbling on the ice. once the ice is melted, the dirt is cool still and its a favorite place to lay for him, with such hot days i usually have to put 2 or 3 in a day for him! i also put smaller ice cubes in his water witch melt quickly in the heat but keep the water cold for him. i dont know why he spends his time through out the hot days outside and not in his hutch but he still uses the restroom in his hutch witch makes me despair!!! but all in all he’s doing great!!!

Ugh, job searching is a sore subject. LOL

I agree that calling and following up on a job application is a good idea. Unless it is a government job. That is highly frowned upon and generally doesn’t get you anywhere (at least around here it doesn’t). But private companies seem to appreciate it when potential employees show some initiative.

Megabunny – Only $50 or $60? LOL People around here will easily spend hundreds of dollars on fireworks. o_O We haven’t bought fireworks in years though. It just isn’t fun anymore. You know, like it was when you’re a kid.

Happy July everyone! It was Canada day yesterday and how great was it to have a mid-week holiday? But I had way too much sun and I woke up with a headache today… boo. Meds should kick in soon though.

I’m down for a fitness thread! I don’t feel like a need to loose weight per se, but I need to get back in shape. Ever since my race that running has been off. I recently gone back to belly dance and now I’ve started a yoga challenge, so it would be great to keep motivated and share with others!

I’d totally participate in a weight loss thread…I had a baby 7 months ago, and I still feel like I’m the size of a house. I’m not a small person anyway, never have been, but I’m bigger now than I’ve EVER been (other than when 9 months pregnant, lol)…I’d happily take/give some motivation!

I wouldn’t mind a weight loss thread. I’ve been trying to eat healthier lately but I really should start exercising as well. I have motivation problems when it comes to psychical activity.

I need to start job hunting soon as well. My savings are looking a bit bare at the moment and I’d love to get a 2nd bunny this year.

July 4 for me should be pretty fun. Been bogged down in the books every week since the start of June, but my family as well as other families on the lake are getting a pretty Bad A** band to come play on our lake Friday night along with plenty of booze. And then Saturday theres a pretty sweet lake boat parade where everyone dresses their boats up in july 4 regalia, and then after that theres a big DJ as well as multiple parties. So I finally get a break, and am so pumped (although I can only imagine where my tolerance is now ).

LBJ if you start a fitness thread I will definitely join in on it and help out with tips and advice. As you know I am very into that type of thing being I have now lost 54lbs in a little over a year now. I was 153lbs on June 9th of last year and as of this past Monday I am not 99.6lbs.

LBJ— I would definitely join your thread. I started one last summer but nobody really joined in. But I think it would be a good idea because everybody on BB is so encouraging and nice to each other.

The job search! Argh! this is a particularly frustrating subject for me. I had to bypass HR to get my current job as a pediatric nurse. Now I want to move to another job but I have to wait until after my planned vacation in october because no one wants to give me any time off without the PTO built up. So frustrating. When I started at my current job in one year they had had one retirement and one resignation. Our manager left and in 6 months we have had 3 resignations with 2 more on the way. So I kinda need to get out while the getting is good!

LBJ- I would love a fitness thread. Haven’t looked yet to see if it’s been started. Does anyone have a fitbit or a pedometer? Maybe we could have a step challenge?

Also for those looking for general fitness I love the myfitnesspal app (no they don’t pay me to say that). I have tried weight watchers and ended up switching over and it was great.

Still on the subject of fireworks.. I miss living near Wisconsin. I guess in virginia they don’t allow lateral moving fireworks.. What the heck are we suppose to do then just stand around with sparklers? Guess so.

Had quite the scare last night. My poor husband has to get up for work at 4AM. As I work night shift I end up staying up until like 2 even when I’m not working. Last night around midnight a car came down our driveway parked for a minute and then went on its way. (not completely abnormal as we live near a major highway and speeders will sometimes duck down our road to avoid a ticket). About 20 minutes after the car left I swear i heard someone walk across our front porch. Poor goose was still out of his cage and he high tailed it back into his hutch. I ran upstairs and woke up my husband and he couldn’t find anyone. Needless to say I laid in bed for two hours wide awake.

OMG, Shannon, I wouldn’t have been able to go to sleep after that either. We live way off the highway, but there’s a lot of big truck traffic on our road because you can cut through to get to the interstate, so I normally don’t notice cars passing by or even driving right past our trailer because we live in a private park and there is one other family that lives behind us. One day last week though, someone pulled into the driveway and just sat right at the end of our house for like, 20 minutes before pulling on down and parking at the other house. It weirded me out a lot and the dog nearly lost his mind.

I’m going to have to download that app and give it a shot…and I REALLY WANT a fitbit. I have a pedometer, but I’d love to get access to the community and all the challenges with a fitbit.

Oh my, that would be scary! We actually saw some guys break into the car across the street, parked in the street. My husband was watching them and calling the police. But then they started walking up our driveway and trying the doors on my car, so he turned the light on and ran out there. They took off running, but still…. =\

These stupid new people who moved in were shooting off very LOUD fireworks last night. Like it sounded like an explosion and there was a bright flash of light that we could see through our closed curtains. It lit up like when lightening strikes. Oh and this was at 2:30 in the morning too.

I like the idea of stating goals and doing check-ins. There’s a minimum amount of daily steps people should take to be active, right? Maybe we can do that for the pedometer thing?

In regards to a Weight Loss/Fitness thread; count me in!! I’m down to about 5-10 pounds to lose but I’m full of great tips (exercise and eating) and would love the support as well. I work for Weight Watchers so I generally eat pretty healthy.

And about jobs…ugh. I don’t mind applying so much as I do interviewing! It’s so nerve wracking. I’m so stressed out at my job at the prison. Corrections just starts to wear on you. I really want to find a different job, but I work for the state and its such a stable, secure job…its hard to leave once you have some seniority. The vacation and benefits are really good too!! My husband works for the state as well so at least if I do ever leave, I could get on his benefits.

Finding a bunny babysitter is so stressful! We are lucky to have found a really great one and we are taking the buns there this weekend.

I’ll take a free ferret!! But only if it’s Bubbles!

Just got back from a long day of swimming and eating watermelon, LOL. And off to do it again tomorrow. I hope everybody is having a great long weekend!

Lot’s of fireworks in the neighborhood this year. These new people who moved in across the street are apparently planning quite the show tomorrow. They have everything wired up and it will all be controlled by a computer. Geez. o_O It’s times like these that make me thankful to have a deaf bunny. His non-reaction keeps Wooly calm. There have been explosions outside over the last few hours and he has actually been lounging in his usual spot.

I guess we will find out tomorrow how Toby feels about fireworks. We live directly across the street from the town’s new multi-purpose complex and they’re hosting a big show over there tomorrow night. Fingers crossed.

I’m so lucky that Tribble and Ox don’t seem to mind fireworks. It would make July so stressful seeing as Utah has 2 firework holidays. People in my neighborhood will set off fireworks every night until August. There’s a reason I’m a firework scrooge. Lol

Well things seem to be calming down outside now. *sigh* I have to get up early in the morning and it’s almost 1am here now. The poor dog managed to poop and pee in the house twice tonight because she was too scared to do anything outside. She wasn’t scared in the house. It was just when the new people across the street were exploding some illegal fireworks over our house. They were so LOUD. You felt the shock when you were outside too.

Leaving for camp today. I’ll be back Wednesday (thursday for Aussie’s).

Most the loud fireworks were done during the day hours here (which included a ton of loud firecrackers right outside our windows). The rabbits stayed under my feet, but seemed OK thinking my legs were shelter. lol I really dislike the 4th – drunk drivers everywhere, everything packed and fireworks all over. *sigh* And if you say you don’t like the holiday, people get all uppity about being unpatriotic… uh, no, just anti-loud noises until 1-2am, causing my pets to stress out and idiots driving when so drunk they can’t even walk straight. And, really, people being so rude with their fireworks and having to buy the loudest ones to shoot off over their neighbors house/at their windows hurts veterans with PTSD as well, so how is THAT patriotic? *grumbles*

Hope everyone has fun over their holiday weekend though.

I didn’t realize that Leopold was deaf!

Speaking of drunk drivers…my hubby was dd on Friday and got pulled over for speeding. They made him do the sobriety tests and pbt. He had 2 beers hours earlier so only blew a .01. Cop said the vehicle reeked like booze…well duh…the other 3 of us were drunk!

One of our neighbors were shooting these fireworks right towards our house. We’ve been having a drought so that was a bit nerve wracking. The pets were fine, Ox acts like they aren’t even there and he is definitely not deaf. I’m not complaining though! Also, some jerk decided that they’d set off fireworks at 4 am. It’s not like I’m trying to sleep or anything, mate. People around here haven’t been as bad this year as they have in the past but I’m still expecting some fireworks every night until August. Thanks Pioneer Day.

Yep, the vet is pretty sure Leopold was born that way. You could tell that Wooly was a little nervous when he would hear the really big and loud ones, but he would look over at Leopold and see him acting as if nothing had happened. LOL

Wow, I’m exhausted. I had to go pick up litter for work today, which meant I had to get up fairly early. I tried to get up at 7am, but it was hard to get going. Really hard. I came home at 1:30, had lunch, looked outside and saw that no one had even attempted to pick up their mess outside. So my husband (who is super sweet, BTW) went outside to sweep stuff up on our side even though it wasn’t ours (we didn’t shoot of any fireworks). There was stuff on out driveway, sidewalks, gutter/curb area, and all over in our lawn. We spent a couple of hours cleaning up what we could. Finally, we saw movement over there. By now it was 5:00 and they had just woken up! The neighbor that all of this stuff belonged to came outside and asked if we needed help. We said no, we got our side covered. They said they would clean up the stuff on their side a little better. We said that was great. We don’t mind the fireworks so much (except the insanely loud ones) as long as they clean up after themselves. It’s now 7:00 and I’m looking outside. No one has cleaned anything up over there yet. *sigh*

We live pretty far off the beaten path so our rabbits are used to random gunfire. I don’t think Goose even notices anymore.

been off the grid for a bit might as well check in me and rocket are fine. his bump on the head turned out to be nothing major, he’s as demanding as ever. me on the other hand, currently have an ear infection and have an appointment to get that looked at and get a specialist referral to see what’s wrong with my tailbone after slipping in January. wasn’t major, just never got better.

Ear infections hurt like anything!!!
My husband damaged his tailbone and I don’t think it got completely better for a year! But there was gradual improvement. Good luck with that!

I’m back from our little vacation. Super fun!
Everybody’s 4th of July plans sound like they were amazing. Doing fireworks yourself isn’t legal here, but they have a pretty nice show over the lake so we sat in the boat and watched from there. Didn’t actually take the boat out of the dock though, the lake was too crowded. LOL
LBJ-I think a fitness thread would be a good idea. I need a little motivation and accountability in that area. Hubby is no help, he’s just as bad as me!
I smacked my foot pretty good on a door (DOH!) and it’s all black and blue. Ugly!

So we finally got a gate for the door to where Laurana lives for right now ( until I get off my butt and start working on the actual bunny room), and she’s enjoying the fact that she now doesn’t have a pen. The carpet that the pen was is still in our den but there is no x-pen surrounding it anymore. I have not seen this bunny do this many binkies in quite a while. Our dog on the other hand is going but now I can’t get to the couch where I normally sleep, not fair mom. Because we have the dog, and I don’t feel comfy with the dog deciding that the bunny=food in his eyes, is the reason why she’s not completely free range that and with m fiancee’s mom being disabled as well, it not fair to either the bunny or her to have something small underfoot.

I don’t think Pippin and Fíli even notice the fireworks. We can hear them every night in the distance from Sea World, and there were no major shows closer to our house. We were out watching on the water, but they seemed fine when we got home. =)

Had a semi-promising bonding date this morning, I think. I let them fight it out a bit more than I usually do, because it was mostly nipping and not the really vicious boxing, biting and grabbing. They ran around the little area and finally Fíli managed to get on top. He didn’t mount, really, just laid there for a little bit, and then he got off and laid on the ground and kicked his legs out and was like “hmph, see, I’m clearly the boss”. I don’t like to see them fight, of course, but I do think that they need to hash it out or they’ll never make any more progress!

Glad most everyone seems to have had a good holiday! It rained ALL DAY here on Saturday, so no more pool for us. It did stop that night, and they were able to do the fireworks across the street. Toby seemed unaffected by the whole thing, but the dog was a nervous wreck all night. The baby slept through most of it, haha.

How have you all been?
I’ve finished my degree, graduating in a couple of weeks!

We’ve had really hot weather here

I decided to go 30 days alcohol-free starting yesterday. I work really hard at eating right and working out and alcohol just drags me down. I think my body will appreciate the sobriety. I only drink on weekends, so Fridays and Saturdays will be the toughest. I think I might even hit my goal weight by the end of the 30 days!

The air here has been crazy. I’m in MN and we are seeing a lot of smoke from the fires up in Canada. There’s actually air hazard warnings basically staying to stay inside. Do any of the Canadian BB’ers see the affects of the fires?

Hubby is home sick with flu symptoms so I’m steering clear!

Good for you for going alcohol free! I can’t remember the last time I had a drink. Oh wait, that was when we got Bubbles… I haven’t really missed it, but then again we weren’t drinking regularly to begin with.

We had a decent 4th of July, Oscar didn’t seem too bothered by the noise. The neighbors shot off fireworks around 2am though, which we weren’t too happy about. But I got back at them by cutting the grass early the next morning… I would have done it anyway, but it still felt good imagining waking them up early.

LBJ- Alcohol free I have tried. I honestly found it better to just go Gin and Tonics. When I go without alcohol I tend to over consume at parties on appetizers haha! The sword cannot get much more double edged.

Alcohol free.. I’ve never had to worry about that, as I have never touched the stuff to begin with. But, good luck in doing it.

I think the longest I’ve gone without drinking since I graduated from high school 11 years ago is not more than a couple of weeks. In college it was easily 4 or 5 days a week and then it slowed down to 2 or 3 and then when I got a “real” M-F job its on the weekends 1 or 2 nights. When I actually think about that and the toll its probably taken on my organs I cringe a little. I wish I could master the art of social drinking and only have one or two drinks but I’m kind of go big or go home. I don’t really see the point of having a drink if I’m not going to feel the affects–might as well have a pop or water then. My mom hasn’t drank since she got pregnant with my brother 33 years ago; however, I grew up in a bar with my dad.

I have a few friends who just aren’t going to understand and not be supportive. And I do really love a nice glass of red wine and an ice cold Orange Shandy and a delicious Vodka Cranberry….thank goodness its only Tuesday here lol!!!

Best of luck in your alcohol-free quest, LLH – I used to drink regularly in college (I worked in a bar, lol) but these days I really only drink when my best friend and I are having movie nights. We get together once a month and watch bad scary movies and drink girly drinks, hahaha. Even then, sometimes I’ll only have one drink – I guess i’m a social drinker? And not a very good one XD

I don’t drink because I don’t see the point =/ I’m not against the use of alcohol and I may have some glühwein for Christmas if I’m offered, so it’s not out of principle that I don’t drink.

Today I had to take Yohio to the vet and he’s still not ok. He wouldn’t eat this morning. Didn’t come around after simethicone and tummy rubs, later I cave him CC as well but no improvement. He even went and lied down in the shower, on the wet floor, something he has never ever done before.
The vet x-rayed his tummy and chest and gave him fluids, said to keep feeding him CC and keep him warm. He had a temp of 99,5 which is a bit low. They couldn’t say what it was. She checked his molars with an otoscope, he sat very still for that, but they looked fine and it’s only 6 weeks since he had them ground. If he’s not better in a couple of days they’ll do bloodwork. Please send him vibes if you like.

Bam I hope Yohio gets to feeling better. ((((((((Yohio)))))))

Ahh the drinking topic. LLH I wish you luck on your goal of being alcohol free. I didn’t drink until I was 26. I don’t drink regularly. I had a sip of a shot of tequila this past weekend. I just couldn’t drink. Its probably been a year since I had a real drink. I don’t like the way it makes me feel. It mainly just makes me tired. I hate being tired.

AaronJ I hope your ear infection clears up soon and the pain stops. I used to get those a lot and they were painful.

So I told everyone my husband said I could get chickens. I don’t think I am going to get them after all. Now he says you can have them but I didn’t say when. He keeps making up excuses and complains about the money its going to cost. I think I officially give up. The topical always goes back to the bunnies and how much damage they have caused around here and how I spend so much money on them. They ended up chewing the cord to our elliptical machine so we cant use it and have to buy a new ac adaptor for it. Maybe by the spring things will change.

I can see how it must seem pointless to you now to have lost weight WITHOUT gaining a free ferret. But you could always steal it from whoever wins it. Stealing pets is a BB tradition after all =)

Stickerbunny – I can’t go places where people are drinking. I become annoyed WAY too easily by drunk people. LOL This is especially true when we go out somewhere expecting to have a nice dinner. I remember years ago, my husband made reservations at a nice restaurant for New Year’s Eve. We were sat next to a table of very loud drunk people. There was roaring laughter, yelling, beating on the table… it really ruined our evening. But maybe that’s because we don’t drink ourselves? My husband will have A drink sometimes, but I rarely have anything. I have been pressured into drinking a glass of wine here and there for special occasions and it always makes me feel uncomfortable. =\

Well, I managed to do very little again today. I had some deliveries to make, so that took up some time. Then I wasted some more time at the lake taking samples. Then I sat in my office the rest of the time. I guess it doesn’t help that my boss wasn’t there all afternoon. I don’t know, after last weekend I just feel so burned out. Is that bad? o_O

LBJ – I’ve been told by drinkers they find drunk people annoying too… if they aren’t drunk themselves. lol Maybe that’s why people always push non-drinkers to drink?

Wow! I cannot keep up with everything lately. Life is super busy right now (our fiscal year-end at work) so I’ve been doing more lurking and less posting!

Thank you so much for the vibes! They must’ve helped because he’s much better today. Actually he had a sudden improvement around 3.30 pm, he started to move about and came to my foot and asked for pets and then he ate a pumpkin seed and then some leaves! Then I went to bed.

I’ve never seen him this miserable, he was much worse than when he had his dental problem. I hope it’s over now, but I won’t be leaving him today.

I’m so sorry. 

So I still haven’t looked at 95% of the forums, and I’m adamantly staying away from the rainbow bridge section for a while… but I am trying to get back to normal life!   Tilly and Zoey have been doing much better with each other, but Zoey still gets randomly freaked out by Tilly getting too close to her some times.  They are a work in progress… but it is progress.  They have taken to feeding each other, along the same lines that Pete and Zoey used to.  Zoey drops her food for the bunny, and Tilly tosses her hay wide around her bowl so that Zoey can get some without getting too close. *sigh*

In other news, I feel like I am going to make my husband angry/frustrated because I keep bouncing between being fine, crying over Pete, and now I have found a bun that I have little information on other than he needs a home and is already neutered; but I saw his picture and I just want to go get him.  I haven’t brought it up yet, because I’m trying to be good, but it’s hard.  I know that if I posted his picture here I would have at least a dozen or so enablers helping me!

4th of July plans were basically just take Zoey and Tilly to the country, away from fireworks, and to see family.  We went and saw my nephew and niece, too.   Nephew just turned 3 on Monday! He’s never gotten to meet Tilly, but has seen her over Skype and claims that she is “his bunny.”

CT- So glad you are getting back to your normal self and that the Tilly and Zoey are finally working at getting along. Also glad you got a relaxing weekend away from the fireworks for the 4th (Lilith had to sit and listen to a loud band and fireworks haha, so I am sure your buns are thankful!). 

Also don’t be so worried about crying and being fine. Its only natural after we have lost someone so dear to us!

Glad things are getting more back to normal. I agree with lawbun that it’s natural to cry/be fine/cry again etc. It will have to be like that for a while. It may sometimes be difficult for men to understand though. I’m thinking about when I lost my dog Nala, it was like that, I could just start crying over her and OH couldn’t quite get it even if he was so very sad over her too. Maybe it’s part frustration because they don’t want you to be so terribly unhappy and they can’t do anything to fix the situation. It just has to be how it is until eventually it gets better, and it does get better.

The Zooey-Tilly improvement sounds great. I can just imagine them =)

Cottontail — Your heart is too big not to share your love with another bunny needing a home. I’m sure Pete would be pleased if Zoey had two bunnies to keep in line again. Your hubby is wonderful and I know he would agree if it makes you happy. So go get that bunny!

Blah! I live in an apartment and have noisy neighbors across from me. I hear them having sex all the time. Their windows are wide open. I get it, I really do. But I don’t want to hear your business. I have the urge to pour bleach in my ears.

LCha-  You might leave a discreet note at their door letting them know that their neighbors can hear them, and suggest that they shut their windows for added privacy.  If they are not used to apartment life they may not realize their faux-pas.

JR – Just found out that the bunny-boy I’m trying to resist is a 6.6lb stray that was brought in.  I’m really tempted to go see him; but I know that if I do, I’m probably coming home with him.   They’ve had him neutered and he’s ready for a new home… I am so tempted that it’s not funny!

CT, how would your hubby react to a new bun? I’m thinking it perhaps would be good for you, for dealing with your grief. It often feels a lot better if you are able to do sth good for someone else, in your case a bunny who needs a loving home.

LoveCha, I’ve had neighbours like that too. Or, I still have the same neighbours but they’ve been together for a while now so the noisiest manifestations of physical love are a lot more infrequent nowadays =) 

Bam – I’m not sure; is that bad? I know he doesn’t want to jump into getting another pet and worries about the stress of a new addition on both me and the ladies (Zoey and Tilly), but he’s got a big heart, too. I know that I wouldn’t be able to go see the bunny at least until Friday or Saturday anyway, but I don’t know if I should pursue it or not. The bun is adorable, looks scared in his picture, and isn’t even listed as the right color; let alone the fact that they don’t have a clue on his possible breed. I just want to go get him and give him a nice big hidey box and room to run… not leave him stuck in that cage with people that mean well but are not bunny-savvy. :\

ChaCha: That’s unfortunate. I’d do what Cottontail suggested. It should embarrass them enough to keep it down in the future. This reminds me of when I was on vacation with my parents as a child. I was in the hotel room and started hearing banging and screaming next door. I was convinced someone was getting beaten up! It kind of ruined my vacation thinking we were living next to some violent psychopath… Realizing years later what was going on was pretty funny.

OMG OMG OMG!!! I got into BB!!! Lol! The day before yesterday was the worst – it let me log in, but as soon as I hit topic’s, it signed me out? So I was able to read, but not post – I’m starting to wonder if this is BB’s way of putting masking tape over my mouth to shut me up??? Ha ha ha ha ha……. So when I got in this morning I am posting straight away! I still need to go back and read as I’m sure another 2 pages has been added since then, lol!

But I did notice that Yohio needed vibes – here they are bam (((((((YOHIO))))))) I get awfully stressed when I hear one of our bunny’s aren’t well, sad face! I’m hoping when I go back to read the last couple of pages that there is an update that he is feeling better?

And before I submit this post, I HAVE to do it! Complain about how cold it is! I hate Winter!!! The ONLY thing Winter is good for is snuggling in bed – so if I can’t spend 6 weeks straight in bed, I’d rather give Winter a complete miss! I wish I could say I feel better now that I have complained, but I still don’t! Cause I’m still COLD! Lol…..

PS – As soon as the hubby leaves for work I will put the heater on. I’d rather be cold for a couple of hours than listen to him whinge about the power bill! SIGH! If only I could set up a fire pit in my dining area??? Mmmm……… haha!

Andi, I’m there with you as far as the heater goes. lol My hubby and my Tilly love to keep it 70 degrees or less if they can… I love it a bit closer to 80, myself. Pete used to be my partner in crime and curl up next to the heater vent, but now I’m outnumbered! Zoey could care less what temperature it is as long as she gets fed, the little brat.

My night off and the hubby hurt himself at the gym so I sat in the ER waiting room with him for an hour. after waiting that long and still not being seen he sent me home. Of course i’ve been home for all of ten minutes and he’s been in a room and x-rayed. argh!

I should have probably mentioned he’s ok. He just waited until after the urgent cares were closed to say he thinks he can’t work tomorrow.

well, turns out I don’t have an ear infection. I have a large amount of backed up wax stuck in from over cleaning of the ear ironically enough.
oh and I no longer have doubts in the back of my mind about Rockets gender. definitely make. mister man’s goods and prizes have entered the building. and will exit said building within the next 2 weeks! already talked to the gang in at a vet locally that I just found out does bunnies. so glad we don’t have to travel though I wouldn’t mind taking my little buddy on a road trip

I am back!!! (for a couple of days)

I am SOO sun burnt! I went to the ocean yesterday. I got burned on my nose, shoulders, back, behind the knees and upper thighs. And I did wear sun block!

I remember the neighbors at our apartment (this was years ago). Very loud in the bedroom. LOL Bam, your comment is hilarious!

Good to see you CT! You know, there is no harm in seeing this bunny. If you feel it, then go for it. If you don’t, then I’m sure someone else will give him a loving home.

We finally went fishing today. We didn’t catch anything, but we didn’t have any live bait either. We just had lures, etc. Somehow my husband ended up sunburned a little. Not sure how that happened. I was okay, but I guess I had a hat on and sleeve that went down to my elbows. There were geese everywhere, which meant goose poop was everywhere. o_O

Oh and I was finally able to grab Leopold to cut is daggers. =D
He only tried to bite me 4 or 5 times. Oddly, he didn’t bite down like he normally does.

I was finally able to catch Binky to get his nails trimmed today too! Holy crap that is a pain, that bunny does not like to be man handled! Luckily he never tries to bite but his glare could kill someone! Surprisingly no thump afterward either!? I wish there was an easy way to do it!

LOL BM14! Yeah, I sort of have to manhandle Leopold. The tricky part is getting a hold of him in the first place though. Once he is caught, he usually gives up. We have practiced getting him used to being picked up by holding him and giving him treats, so that part isn’t too bad. But then I have to sit down with him somewhere and get him into a nail cutting position.

The whole ordeal is tough! The catching is the first pain, then after he’s caught he doesn’t give up! Finally after a tight bunny burrito he’s ok but then we have to try and get a foot out and he takes that opportunity to try and wiggle out

I’m glad my two are (mostly) behaved when it comes to nail trims. I sit them on the kitchen counter in a burrito and as I adjust to get feet they try to “climb” my shoulders (and wrap their legs around my neck haha). Only takes a few minutes to trim them though. And to catch, I just rattle a craisin bag and they come running! I swear they’d let me cut an ear off for a craisin, the addicts.

Chacha – Ugh. Maybe drop hints that you love the units, but every noise comes out of them when the windows are open? If you want to be subtle.

AH, Yohio seems to be doing fine. Hungry, cuddly, social, mobile.
I too hate cold and yes, it’s cold AND summer here. It’s hot indoors though because since Yohio was hypothermic at the vet, I haven’t dared open any windows. So it’s about 26 C (80F) in here and outside it’s 17 (62), a hard wind and rain and it seems like such a waste of summer =(

OMG Moxie – your back!!! When I read that you would be away for a couple of weeks I thought well that’s no fun….
I’m sorry you got sunburnt, that would take the fun out of a trip away. I remember back when I was a kid/teenager, getting sunburnt was the norm and we tolerated it like a grazed knee. I think back now and cringe! And I still have a body full of scars to remind me – especially my knees!

Nope! I still have to do the pat and grab with Henry Stickerbunny – no amount of craisin or even banana (HUH?) will convince Henry it’s a good exchange for a pick up. Especially if it is out of the blue – if I offer him a craisin at lunch time, he knows somethings up. Clever bunny!

Do you enjoy fishing LBJ? I often see people fishing and I couldn’t think of anything worse – especially when you don’t catch anything. The few people I have spoken to as I walk by and say hello, say they enjoy just sitting and the surrounding’s. I don’t get it, but I respect it.
Gosh, I had a hard enough time catching my gold fish in a cup when I had to clean out it’s tank – no wonder I don’t get the enjoyment of fishing, lol!

LOL Aaron! I love the way you described Rocket’s gender – I am going to be giggling about that all night, lol! Good one!

Oh, I meant to say this morning – how amazing we have lots of different and new member’s joining in on the chat thread, super excited!!! I will apologise now if I have left anything out, as it is, I need to post this and go back a page before I write more, I have forgotten everything I wanted to say – doh! Oh, but I did remember to say LOL bam at your comment about the bedroom noise, hahaha! Having never endured it, I never gave it any thought… till NOW! Thanks for that Cha! NOT! Ha ha ha ha…..

As soon as the hubby walked out CT, on came the heater! My Molly was just like your Pete – he laid so close to the heater, if he wasn’t a Poodle with his wooly coat I reckon he would have gone up in flames, hahaha! Seriously, you could touch us both and we would be burning hot and do you think either Molly or I moved – nope! Now it’s me against everyone too – no one else feels the cold like I do…..
And hey CT, only you know deep down in your gut if this is what you want and if your ready. When Molly passed after 15 years I said NO more pets, the heartbreak was unbearable! We ended up with Henry (that’s NOT a dog! HUH? Lol!) months later, hahaha! Even though my Molly took a piece of my heart with him when he left us – he left me enough to love again, I just didn’t know it till I overcame the grief. It would have been a shame not to share our love and home with another pet. All this time later, I still cry – but I can say I have finally found a happy place and Molly is never far from my mind even when enjoying Henry. By the way, Molly would have hated Henry, LOL! And I did laugh as I wrote that – and I love that I could.

26/27 degrees is my perfect weather here bam – warm without being hot or cold, yep PERFECT! I often say to the hubby that I need to live down South during Summer and up North for Winter. Why couldn’t I be rich and have 2 homes??? Ohhhh….. that’s right, I had kid’s, dog’s, other pets and a BUNNY! No wonder I am poor! Lol!

And I have to admit bam, I am one of those horrible people who eats meat and fish but couldn’t provide (hunt?) for themselves – I hate that about me, but it’s true! I know this doesn’t mean anything, but I am big on knowing that my meat, fish and chicken (AND egg’s!) are provided from humane produce. I know I have said this on BB before, but I stand by it – I am big on quality over quantity. If I know that my egg’s come from a chicken housed in a cage with barely any room to turn around, besides the egg being crap – I can’t enjoy it. Give me an egg that has been laid by a free roam chook in a paddock and it glows in yellow.
I have a friend who lived on a small farm – she had a bit of everything, cows, goats, chickens, etc., and treated them like pets. When she humanely killed a cow for meat I was mortified! And I shouldn’t have been – it had the BEST life! Again I know this will sound stupid…. I couldn’t eat him. It had a name and I patted it! Why should it matter that I knew this cow and not the other’s? And because he was so well looked after, my hubby and everyone said he was wonderful, better than any butcher or supermarket provided.
I don’t know….. I really annoy myself.

You may not be on now, but I can see that your logged in Steph – I have been thinking about and looking for you. How is your job hunting going? I imagine you haven’t been on cause you got snapped up quickly? I really hope so! I was just about to share with everyone concerned about Blair’s MRI that it went well – as you ALL said, I worried for nothing. They didn’t sedate him, and apparently he followed their instructions and they got some good shots of his heart. THANK YOU to everyone for getting me through that. I am still waiting on hearing the results of that and the other tests, but I assume no news is good news? If I don’t receive a letter, to come in and discuss the results by next Monday I will give the hospital a call – just to be safe. Honestly, thank you!

SUPER happy to know Yohio is feeling better bam – he worries us! I sort feel bad for replying/posting before reading back, now that I am/have I think I missed some posts that I shouldn’t have – SORRY! Now I wonder if I will make sense (if I ever have? Lol!) if I refer back to some now? Just reading about your Nala bam and CT’s concerns…. I think I have mentioned this before, but I cry all the time over my loses and my hubby just doesn’t get it – I try to hold back and wait till he isn’t home so I can have a good cry and SOB (loudly) without worrying that I’m upsetting or bothering him (stupid hey?), but I do! But I also admit I like to cry on my own anyway…. nothing worse for the person you are sharing your tears with and they don’t know how to make it better? Some times you just need to cry without someone telling you it will all be ok…. I usually end up feeling bad for the person trying to console me, and end up laughing at how silly I feel I am being…. lol! I give up – on me! Ha ha!

And Tessie – CONGRATS!!! I knew you would do it, I was just waiting for it to be official so I could congratulate you, so proud!!!

LBJ when it comes to the chickens I have decided to drop the subject and pick back up before next spring. I think it would be best to wait until then. I knew it was too good to be true when he said I could have them without a fight. hehe He does keep me in check. I would have a zoo here if he didn’t.

AH I am glad your son’s MRI went well. I hope he is in good health and everything turns out well with him. I hate winters too. I don’t like being cold. It always seems like during the winter I have to wear layers of clothes in the house even with the heat on. I have to have socks on and house shoes. I try to drink hot drinks to warm me. Then I will drink something cold and I will sit and freeze.

CT I would go and see the bunny. You will know when you see it if you really want to bring it home. I had a cat who died of cancer 3 years ago. I wasn’t planning on getting another cat. My other cat Puss would spend his night meowing up and down the halls at night. He wanted me to be up with him. I think he missed her and needed a companion. I knew I didn’t want a kitten so I went and looked at cats in shelters for awhile. I never saw a cat that I wanted to bring home until I saw Grimjow. I knew I had to have him. Moxie sunburns are the worst. I recently read that some sun protection products don’t actually work. I wonder if that was the case with what you used? I have been burnt and have sunscreen on at the time. That aloe sunburn relief stuff is helpful with relieve pain.

I really need to get my rabbit’s nails cut. Its a pain in the butt to try and cut theirs. I have to take them to the vet and its kind of inconvenient to have to drive 40 minutes to have their nails cut. I went to our dogs vet here in town once to have them cut. They said they have cut rabbits nails before. They didn’t even want me in the back while they were doing it. I insisted which I could tell they didn’t like. I didn’t like the way they handled them so I have never taken them back. I guess I will take them in next week. Its time for Kilala’s yearly check up. I got her 2 years ago on August 12th.

Everybody is so chatty! I can’t keep up, lol. On the subject of nail-trimmings, I really need to get a grip on Toby and trim his back feet…I got his front feet easily, but he doesn’t like being picked up AND his nails are black so I’m always nervous I’m going to trim too much.

I think Toby has started mourning for Hershey now…like maybe he just realized that he’s not coming back? He was doing fine for a while, and now he’s stopped eating as much. I checked his teeth and his face last night, but there’s no issue there. I think he’s just sad. I hope he comes out of it soon. I just spent last night sitting on the floor with him, so he could hop over and beg for pets if he wanted.

All this talk about heaters is making me sweat…it’s summer here and I think the high today is something like 93 degrees with 88% humidity, lol.

Koucha bun will be getting groomed tonight, as well as her body check. She had her nails trimmed last weekend and she wanted to kill her daddy (my bf) afterward. He holds her while I trim her claws! She hates pedicures!

This weekend will be super busy for me. I am backing 40 cupcakes on Friday after I get home from work and taking them to a friend’s memorial on Saturday. After the memorial, I am going to a Final Fantasy symphony concert downtime. On Sunday, I might be going to Seattle to eat at Veggie Grill as the funds from the meals will go to support Beagle Freedom Project, a great non-profit that saves beagles from animal testing.

I went to the dentist for a filling today and I survived!

I’m super scared of the dentist, last time I was there I cried (embarrassing, I know), anyway, I made it through today without crying, yay!

I’m the same, I’m afriad, I eat meat and eggs but I wan’t it to come from good places where the animals have good lives. I have a few good local suppliers that I buy from.

AH – The way you feel about meat is the reason I ended up giving it up completely, honestly. We had pet chickens, pet goats, pet turkeys and a pet pig and and I couldn’t stomach the idea of eating say, a turkey sandwich then going out and having my turkeys walk up and beg me to kiss their heads (they would walk over every time I came out and crowd my feet til I kissed them on the tops of their heads and gave them a little head rub). It just made all meat kind of repulsive to me to have such loving animals of the species. I don’t see how anyone can have them as pets and then eat them too… but it is the best way, if you’re going to eat them, at least treat them with love and respect first, instead of cruelly.

Tessie – I am scared of them too. They always hurt! lol Last time I went a kids dentist let me go to them, so she was used to really scared patients… glad you made it through OK

Be careful with harnesses, even those that do bun agility and have very well trained buns have lost theirs to harness injuries (snapped backs and such). And make sure the park is pesticide/fertilizer free.

Stickerbunny, you and me sound alike I have been vegan for 2 years. I love it and I am not lacking anything, am healthier, and have peace of mind because of it and I have Koucha to thank for that. I went to an animal sanctuary in December 2014. It was just one of the best places I’ve been to. If you’d like, I can post some photos of myself and the animals. They all remind me of Koucha. I see Koucha in every one of the animals. The cows were chasing me because I bought vegetables for them
  
How many times a week do you go to the store to buy veggies for your bun(s)? The mister and I shop on Sunday and we buy a lot of produce for ourselves and Koucha. The veggie crisper is always full! Koucha has taken a liking to brussels sprouts, so we give her one every few days. She likes when I hand feed it to her HAHA!

I’ve thought about going vegetarian…I couldn’t do vegan because OMG DAIRY PRODUCTS! LOL My husband would make that sooooo hard though. He eats like a teenager. All meat and junk food, all the time. And he weighs like, 100lbs less than me.

We generally go grocery shopping on Sundays as well and that’s when I usually stock up on veggies for me and the critters. Between me, toby, and 3 guinea pigs – we always have tons of produce in the house.

Always happy to see animal pictures, Chacha I love cows, they are so sweet! Like giant lazy dogs haha

I haven’t been able to go vegan because I live in an area with VERY FEW options for dairy alternatives. Like… they have almond and soy milk. But, no alternative cheeses in our stores. No alternative ice creams, or chocolates. No alternative frozen foods. No tempeh. Quinoa is over $1 an ounce. And our grocery stores have such a horribly limited fruit/veggie section. Like… one aisle for veggies, two for fruit (bananas, seasonal melons, plums, peaches, apples, grapes, raspberry, blueberry, oranges, lemons and limes). We have a local farm that sells “fruit” – apples and cherries. And the farmers market is mostly corn. Lots and lots of corn. With the occasional berry, cherry or apple stand. And some lettuce and arugula. But, want junk food or meat? You have a billion options! lol

We go shopping as needed. Since the store is so limited on what they carry, the buns don’t get too much of a variety. But, I mix it up when I can. To get herbs like mint, it’s $4 for a couple of sprigs, so I occasionally buy them some herbs as treats. A head of lettuce is $2.49 and they can eat the whole head in one sitting if I let them ha. They for once had carrots with the tops (usually it’s green giant baby carrots only), so I got some of those for them the other day.

I can’t wait to move so I can get real food – surrounded by farms and almost all our produce in the stores comes from Mexico or Brazil! And half the time I go to buy berries or grapes, they’re moldy / rotten. :s 

Aw man, I wish you lived on the West Coast! We have ALL THE FOODS HERE! XD I once bought Miyoko’s Kitchen cultured cashew cheese (IT’S AMAZING! and they ship nationwide!) over to my boyfriend’s house. His entire family loved the cheese on crackers. I love to cook and I love bringing food over to people that don’t expect veg food to be tasty You’re doing the best you can Sticker *high five* I’ll post the photos once I am home

I looked up that cheese and it looks interesting, but $30 min order and $17 shipping that’s an expensive way to taste test! I wish I lived on the west coast too, so much easier to get good food there! Or, anywhere else really. lol I went to visit my mom back in Florida and they had a vegan aisle in her grocery store, so I had vegan samosa and got vegan curry and I so want that aisle here!

@stickerbunny are harnesses that bad? you have me rethinking it now! I have an H shape harness, if I took him out I think I’d only take him around my yard because we don’t use any bad stuff on our lawn.
in other news, picked up 2 bags of kibble and some hay cubes. one of the regular stuff, the other a larger bag at better price. going to gradually switch him over. also found out what’s wrong with my truck. hanging wire to a sensor melted from touching my exhaust causing my air/fuel mixture to go all funky therefore making my truck run funky. it’s never a dull moment here guys!

Aaron – Rabbits are very fragile, so if they spook while on a harness, it’s very easy for them to break a bone. They will just jet at high speeds and the “snap” as they hit the threshold will often break something – legs, spines, etc. So your option is 1) let go and let the rabbit run away 2) hold on and risk broken bones and possibly death. They aren’t really meant to be walked on a leash. People who do agility and stuff do use them, but they also accept the risk (which has happened to some of them) that they might lose their rabbit by doing so. Some haven’t had a problem, but many have.

If you want to take him just out in your yard, you could always use an x-pen with a cover. You can make sure no toxic plants are in the area, he gets outside time and he’s secure in a pen even if a stray cat or something comes in to spook and / or try to attack him.

Shannon did you end up finding somewhere to board Goose? If I remember right you were struggling to locate somewhere?

I don’t mind fishing as long as someone baits my hook and takes the fish off the hook for me!!! haha I grew up fishing w/ my dad and brother. It’s more about relaxing and hanging out in my mind.

WOW, so much stuff today! LOL

For those of you asking about fishing, we don’t really do it that much. It’s more just for fun. If we caught something, we probably would have just let it go. I don’t think I would want to eat a fish from any of the lakes around here anyway. I don’t enjoy killing things, so you’ll never see me hunting. I have had to cut up some very strange things though, so the guts and stuff doesn’t really bother me so much. When you have to prepare food for predators, you get over it pretty fast. I do understand the whole not wanting to eat something that could be your pet thing. I always felt a little weird about the rabbits, but they were roadkill so I suppose that’s okay.

I could probably be a vegetarian, but for me it’s more of a resources thing. Americans eat WAY too much meat and corn-fed is the worst. Poor cows. They have to be pumped full of antibiotics because they develop stomach ulcers from eating all that corn. =( And poor people because nutrition-wise, corn-fed meat is worse than grass-fed. Grass-fed is lower in saturated fat and higher in Omegas. Unfortunately for me, my husband complains if there isn’t meat in his meal.

Andi – Glad Blair’s appointment went well. You’ll have to let us know how the results turn out.

Above is a pig named Splash. Splash escaped a slaughterhouse in Washington. She swam across a river into a person’s backyard. she knew exactly what was going on and her fate. Pigs have the intelligence of a 3 year old, equal to a dog. Splash is now at a sanctuary living peacefully with a handful of other pigs that will live their lives out peacefully. A lot of the animals are traumatized and are constantly cared for at this sanctuary, so it is a real eye opener. I wish everyone could visit one

Aww, those cows are so cute and I love pigs – used to have one when I was a kid, he would go the fence when we walked home from the store and beg cause he could smell the candy we bought. lol Smart Splash running away from there.

LBJ – My partner eats meat in his meals too (yesterday I walked in and his dinner was chicken, steak, ham and sausage… no veggies or anything at all!). Personally, I just bake him chicken (foil baked makes it more tender, plus you can get lots of juices for home made gravy that way) or pan sear a steak and serve it with whatever else I prepared. Takes an extra maybe 5 minutes of my time to add the one extra dish to what I am cooking. Or, he cooks his own. I stopped eating meat when I was 13, so got used to being meat-free in a house with meat eaters while growing up. The great thing about most legumes and stuff that you have to eat as your protein source as a veg is, they don’t really lose flavor if you cook enough to reheat later… so I can do say, a lentil burger really fast and it’s just as tasty as if I fresh prepared it, making it really just the side dishes I have to cook.

Plants contain saturated fat. Sorry, biologist talking.

I remember the cows where I used to work. They mooed a lot. They would follow you and moo. I think they wanted you to go away. LOL The cows at the dairy farm we visited with a summer “camp” I was working for a few years ago had some nice cows. They would let you pet them and they would take food from your hand. They can become pretty friendly when people pay attention to them all the time.

Stickerbunny – I suppose I should try to find some recipes where meat is optional. We normally have a meat item and side items like steamed vegetables, potatoes, or rice. That’s about all I know how to cook. LOL My mom never cooked much when I was growing up, so I think I cook more like a “man” (meaning the way my guy friends cooked when they were bachelors in their pads).

That sanctuary looks amazing, LCC! Those cows are adorable and it’s rare to see photos of a full grown pig. ♥♥ Those treats look delicious as well.

I finally went and saw Jurassic World. It was so good so intense! I saw Max as well but I thought that was pretty meh overall.

Ox is feeling very loving tonight since I got bunny snuggles and he’s chinning Tribble right now. Both of which he never does. Tribble seems to enjoy being chinned. Probably thinks he’s finally being useful and is giving her a rub. lol

Anyway, I need to catch up. I’ve been a semi-lurker the past few days.

LBJ I go days without eating meat sometimes. There’s times I think I could be a vegetarian…I eat a lot of veggies burgers!!! But I do love a good burger….

Can I just quickly say how much I hate bees/wasps/yellow jackets. While mowing the grass at my parent’s house this yesterday, I mowed over a yellow jacket underground nest (never even saw the holes), and I got bit 7 times. So now I can barely walk and with all of the meds I am on I can barely study for the bar. Lol I hope they enjoy all of the pesticide spray they received because of it!

Also, I cannot wait to see jurassic world! I have heard such great things, but just have not found time to go and see it. I would imagine its totally awesome (Chris Pratt really is a great actor i.e. Guardians of the Galaxy)

I’m one of those awful people that cannot give up meat.  I actually get sick if I don’t get my proteins and fats… I do try to eat mainly chicken and fish, but sometimes I crave red meat.  I’ve got virtually no cholesterol in my blood and  I think that may actually play a big part in my fluctuating hormones, vitamin D deficiency, and various digestive issues over the years.   It may sound odd, but I’ve come to recognize the specific sick feeling that can only be cured by meat-protein intake.  I’ve tried substituting nuts or beans but it doesn’t process the same way so I still feel sick.   I also discovered that I have a minor allergy to the stuff they make veggie-burgers out of (certain type of fungus/mushroom)… so yeah.  Not meant to be.

Law- I could only imagine!  I know how awful the red wasps are when you just get near them; let alone running over a whole nest of yellow jackets!    As for Jurassic World; great movie.  I went in with the expectation of it being about on par with the original or a bit worse for wear; but I really enjoyed the movie.  It was very well done in my opinion.  I won’t give you any spoilers!

On the subject of being vegetarian I am like LLH I eat that way a few times a week but I do still eat meat as well. I wish I could completely phase out meat all together but I would probably always still have dairy like cheese and yogurt and the occasional egg. I have already quit eating pork. I sometimes eat beef. I am sure if I get my chickens one day I will want to stop eating chicken as well. My husband always wants meat in our meals. Sometimes he doesn’t mind if I make something that doesn’t have meat in it. My lunches are where I will not have meat some days.

LoveChaCha I really like your pictures from the sanctuary! I think the carrot and cow pictures is funny. I wish I had a place like that to go to. I really love animals. The treats look yummy.

Law Bun stings can be so painful. I cringed when I read what you said. Its been years since I have been stung; they do like to get you when you are mowing. Yesterday I was dead heading some of my roses when a huge bumble bee mistook me for one of my roses. I was kind of scared I was going to get stung but bumble bees are not aggressive, at least that’s been my experience with them.

I am excited today we are taking my son and grandson out to celebrate their birthday a day early. I am also baking a cake. My son will be turning 23 but he always picks a funfetti cake with strawberry frosting out for me to make him. He enjoys shooting guns with his friends recreationally. He is not a crazy gun person. I know he likes them so I bought some molds that are for ice cubes but I am going to use fondant and make some revolvers for on top of his cake. I wanted to do something a little less boring.

Bumblebees aren’t aggressive. We used to freak kids out at my old job by petting them. It really takes a lot to get them to actually sting you.

Male bumblebees don’t have stingers. The diff between a male and a female bumblebee is that the females have a pointier butt. I haven’t tried to sex a bumblebee, though, I just read this in the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation’s magazine. It may be true or it may not.

I have been stung by bumblebees though. Way less painful than being stung by a wasp. Or many wasps. I stepped into a yellow jacket nest once and was stung so many times, I had wide shorts so they flew up and into the shorts and I tore them off and ran through the woods while the wasps stung me again and again. I looked like a watermelon after that. I don’t wear wide shorts in woods anymore. 

I like bumblebees a lot.

We used to love playing with bumbles! It takes ALOT to get them to sting you. We used to catch them and then release them a couple seconds later in a big patch of clovers. The only time I ever saw someone get stung was (as a kid) when they cupped them in their hands and shook the bee really hard! Naturally, he got stung but none of us felt sorry for him. We just felt sorry for the bee.

Cotton – I don’t consider meat eaters awful. lol So you’re OK

And getting proper protein does require 1) Your body can process it properly 2) You know how to mix your proteins. Plant proteins are INCOMPLETE so you can’t just eat one source and get your protein. You need to mix and match 2-3 sources that complete each other, that way you can get a full protein once your body processes. And some people can’t properly process the plant based ones. As for veggie burgers – the pre-made ones are nasty imo, make your own if you wanna try any!

My mom wanted to try and I actually told her not to, to just find a more humane source of meat instead. She is pickier than I am (which is bad!) and won’t eat much in the way of veggies and will not “hide” veggies she needs to eat either (I hide stuff I don’t like in soups or mashed potatoes so I can still get the nutrients without the taste). So, she would destroy her body if she gave up meat. You can do serious harm to yourself if you don’t do it properly – diabetes risk from overloading on carbs/sugars, deprive yourself of aminos/proteins, B12, iron etc and even destroy the lining of your stomach and cause digestive issues. RESEARCH is key if anyone wants to go vegetarian/vegan. It’s really easy to get all you need, but it takes a little more knowledge / planning than eating meat does. Too many people think you can just take meat out and eat like always, or replace it with rice/potatoes/pasta. Talked to too many that actually hurt themselves doing that. Also good to work with your doctor, to make sure you are digesting all the plant nutrients as you should. My cousin actually found out she can’t absorb ANY natural source of B12 and had to start getting shots, she can’t even get it from meat!

LBJ – Well, the rice/veggies could be like normal and then you could just make say, legume burgers and put them in the fridge for non-meat days for yourself, make the meal like normal and just sub in the legumes for meat on your plate. If you wanted. If not, you could probably find grass-fed humane farms to buy from, to settle the reason you have for not liking meat.

Law – Owwww. I’ve never been stung, but that sounds so painful. Hope it heals up quickly.

Yes we did find a place to take goose. When I called they said they have had other rabbits before. They are also connected to a vet (not our vet) that claims to see rabbits as well so we shall see. I ‘m sure he will be fine for a week and if this doesn’t workout we will find another for the next time.

*sigh* There are now a few more holes where you can see from the living room down into the basement. My husband was tearing out drywall again today, removing the built-in china hutch so there will be room for the ridiculously large fridge we bought.

I know what you’re thinking JR and I have no control over it! He does what he wants!

So, erm, I guess the question is… can you see the basement toilet through the holes yet? lol

I feel like the chat thread is very slow this month. And then first thing tomorrow I am going to another camp. I will be gone for a week.

MY rooster is starting to crow finally! My sister’s rooster still hasn’t yet, which is surprising because I was sure he was going to be the first.

I am loving having him in the house already.  I wish we hadn’t adopted him on a weekend because the vet is closed and I want to get his initial vet visit set up.  It’s probably best for him so that he can settle for a few days before another long car ride, but I’m impatient now.

In other news; I got to see 2 of my nieces and my nephew this month.   Getting to see family is a nice pick me up.

Moxie does your rooster crow a lot or just in the mornings? My friend missed having one and got one and have to give him away because he crowed day and night. I told her he was missing living in a flock and perhaps that’s why he crowed so much.

They are just vocal birds (depending on personality, some are quieter than others). We had a few roosters when I was little and they crowed all the time. It’s a dominance thing, an intruder alert thing, a communication thing, etc.

Since I was looking into getting chickens I seen that they sold anti crowing collars for them. I am going to guess its like a barking collar for dogs. I don’t know what to think about that.

Anti-crowing collars? :s That… sounds rather mean. That would be like trying to collar away my parrot’s flock calling. I mean, you can keep them occupied and train them and stuff so they don’t make as much noise. Or, if crowing is a problem, just not buy a rooster and stick with hens.

Anti-crowing collars sounds really mean imo. You don’t need a rooster to get eggs, so if you live close to other people you could skip having a rooster. Crowing is very important for roosters. Dogs that bark obsessively may benefit from training with an anti barking collar, but for roosters, crowing a lot is not a nervous obsession, it goes deeper than that.

Sindriona— When it is dark out chickens act pretty much dead. You can pick up the most aggressive rooster and he will just sit/lay there. But seconds after you walk into the light they will act like normal chickens again. So they really probably wouldn’t crow at night unless there was light. As for the day time, he isn’t loud enough to be heard from indoors. Some roos are quiet while some are noisy. Really it depends on their mood/asserting dominence ect. I’ve been out there all day before without a single crow and then some days I’ll walk out and he’ll crow 4 to 5 times in a row. We have several roosters, so I really think that when the others start to crow he will crow more, so that the ladies know that he’s the man.

We’re not allowed to have roosters in town here, only hens. I do remember a friend of mine that had a rooster at her grandparents’ farm. He crowed and crowed and crowed. It didn’t matter what time of day it was.

Stickerbunny – Not quite. These new holes are on the other side of the center wall (there is a block wall that runs down the center of the basement), so you can’t see the toilet. Yet.

Yea I thought the rooster collars sounded cruel as well. We cant have roosters here either only hens so I never plan to get a rooster. I was just curious if they crowed a lot like my friends did. I just the collar it as an item you could purchase.

*sigh* I don’t think Wooly is feeling well. I don’t know if it’s gas or the heat. We have the AC running, but it’s like an oven outside. He did not want his lettuce earlier and Leopold ended up eating it all. Granted, Wooly can be rather picky when it comes to veggies. I freshened up their hay, but it doesn’t look like he’s been eating that either. I offered him a banana treat and he snubbed that. He’s been lying around most of the day with his tummy stretched out. I found a tiny poop on the floor a little bit ago. So I decided to give his tummy a good rub and I gave him to simethicone to see if that helps. He was not happy about it. =\

CT Seeing family IS a good pick-me-up, which is why, when my daughter leaves on Wed. I’m going to crawl in bed and cry all day. I will have had 2 straight weeks of family, then nothing. I haven’t even seen a schedule for work come up. Maybe they don’t want me back.

He’s been mostly sitting and grooming himself on and off over the last 2 hours. I just went in there and I got down on the floor to pet him. He started sniffing me and then decided he needed a drink, so he went over to the water bottle. Hoping that means he feels a little better.

Okay, never mind. I decided to go ahead and put them to bed. I was putting pellets in their food bowl and Wooly came flying over to get some. I just shut their light off and they were both munching away. Silly rabbits.

So while the bunny is away my fiancee decided to add to the pet dog collection.  I am not happy, I take anxiety meds, and they aren’t working.  I feel like our other dog is stressed since usually he’s up my bum and isn’t, doesn’t want to go outside with the new dog.  And oh, the new dog is trying to herd and nip at him in the backyard.  Yeah I am not happy and overly anxious and really do not know how to tell my fiancee that I don’t want this dog around the rabbits.  Cause if he tries anything, this dog is gone from this house or me and the rabbits will be gone from the house until the dog is gone.  And yes, I love my fiancee even when its something like this.

SFB Boy, that’s tough. I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through all that but I hope you know that the meds can’t just fix everything and make you a “normal” person with NO anxieties. There will need to be give and take in any relationship and I’m sorry, (not really) but for someone to just go out and get a dog to add to the household without consulting the other half is showing no sensitivity. Anxiety aside, you don’t just go out and add to the pet population in a household. It’s a huge commitment to take on a new pet. Whether it’s a turtle that’s going to need special food and all the cleaning that goes with them, to a bird that will screech and throw seeds around, to a dog that is, well, doing what your dog is. There’s probably a reason that dog needed a home and what makes your fiancee think he should take that on? He needs to send it back and restore peace to your other dog as well as the rest of you. I know you love your fiancee and I’m not saying you shouldn’t. But communication is paramount in a relationship and this should have been a joint decision.

It was more of the thing, megabunny that if the rabbit got a companion, our dog got a companion which we had talked about beforehand several months before we went to the shelter for her companion. I just didn’t expect a puppy but more of a three or four year old since our dog is six years old, something out of the puppy stage. Needless to say, that the meds I take for anxiety work just since the introduction of a Australian Cattle Dog/Retriever mix to our household has caused it to go up majorly.

I feel for the dog but I personally can’t handle the dog by myself and know this since my fiancee works nights. I knew the dog was incoming, and said okay to it megabunny. I just wasn’t expecting the reaction to the dog from our other dog since the neutral ground meeting went well.

I can understand how you feel about the new dog So Fluffy Bunny. Puppies are A LOT of work. My two dogsare a lot of work. It also doesn’t help that your dog doesn’t seem to like it. My dog Suki didn’t like our other dog Mitzu when we were got him. She was terrified of him to be honest. he was a tiny 6 week old Shi Tzu. She is a Shi Tzu mix herself. She was also an older dog who was use to being the only dog. I hope that your current dog gets use to it. Ours did but it took a little while. I wish I had some great advice to give you. Its been 6 years since I got the second dog I cant remember what we did to make Suki more comfortable around Mitzu I think it was just time and soothing reassurance on our part. Mitzu was friendly of course which most puppies are so that helped.

hmmm. Well if you’re the one home during the day to care for the dog I feel really sorry for you. If it’s a youngster it probably has a good chance to still be adopted if you sent it back. My fear would Be to get an unknown adult dog and go through introducing them. Adults can be so unpredictable. I’m no dog expert but if my dog had been much younger we would have sent him back but he was 11 so we chose to keep him
And we’re glad we did. But he is the only dog. I’m old and tired and just see your situation as a difficult one especially if you are having to take care of everything for so much of the day. Please don’t do this to yourself if you can find any way to choose something different…that won’t stress your current dog as well

LBJ: I’m glad that Wooly is feeling better. I’ve been having the same problem with Oscar today. This morning he wouldn’t eat, then an hour later he was back to normal. Now he’s acting sick again, he looks pretty uncomfortable. I know it’s because he’s shedding, it always causes him to get stomach upsets even though I try to get as much loose fur off of him as possible. We’re about to give him some Simethicone.

LOL so I came downstairs to feed the joey at 1am and who is having a party in his pen……Silence haha, he is doing mini bunny 500 laps around his pen and otherwise being silly! So cute!

SFB – that sounds hard! The good news is a puppy is better for introducing to bunnies as you have a much better chance of them socialising well to the bunnies and living with them harmoniously, it just takes time and proper introductions. But I think if you are really struggling with your own anxiety, and your dog clearly doesn’t like the new comer (not unusual for an older dog to not ‘like’ a younger dog, they are boisterous and rude and your older dog is used to being alone) than it is worth while having a chat with your OH about it, you shouldn’t be feeling most anxious with a new family member.

Yes, I was quite relieved. Whatever it was (gas, I assume), my efforts must have done something to help. He also ate some lettuce today, so that’s good too. =) The weird thing is that Wooly is not normally the one with a tummy ache.

Lee and Megabunny- my OH and I had a hard, long talk about ownership of another dog. Our current dog understands that the bunnies are off limits to him, while we tried introducing laurana and troy to each other, they didn’t take to each other and that was okay it wasn’t something neither of us were going to force the dog to like the bunny. Just to be able to know that troy won’t bother her and her new companion ( coming home Wednesday) which troy watches the bunnies but doesn’t try to get into their room.

While we both like the new dog, we cannot have a dog who is trying to get into my other half’s mother lap since she is disabled and in a wheelchair and he doesn’t understand no about that. Plus he came through the window that has an air conditioning unit and destroyed a part and that was after only being outside fifteen minutes today. He also didn’t respect the fact that I have a baby gate up to where our bunnies will live and I cannot have a puppy that will try to terrorize our buns ( in fact he jumped it several times). We have given him since Saturday, he was great on neutral ground with our older dog but once we got home to our living area for our current dog and such, the whole attitude of the puppy changed into I run this show.

So sorry if I forgot anyone.
Not much has been going on lately for me, besides the normal busyness. :/

SFB – Sounds like a typical adolescent herding breed to me. They are energetic, rude and need a lot of mental and physical stimulation, not really the best breed to have with small animals unfortunately as they really do like herding. If you were to consider a 2nd dog again I would 100% recommend a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, they are small (5-9kgs tops), friendly, very rarely have behavioural issues, get along with just about anything dog human or otherwise, they are low maintenance except for some minor grooming, great little dogs and will be much easier to intergrate with the rabbits.

We are considering having a second dog again, as I told my OH who wants to rescue that we will have to watch the breed for strong prey drive and herding tendencies ( meaning to not have.. note to self try to make sense when half asleep!). He feels like we are giving up too quickly on Boomer ( name of the dog) but also realizes that my anxiety level should not be as high as it is even with being on medication. Also the last straw for him was coming through the screen to the side of the air conditioner in the kitchen, which he admits that while he wants another dog, the dog that we have right now ( and taking back in the morning since the shelter wasn’t open today) is not a dog for us, but a dog that needs work to do and we cannot provide that outlet since we live in a very small town in Tennessee. The breed is definitely more suited for a farm that needs a dog who has the herding instinct and wants to work which this dog does.

In fact, even though we are taking him back and will explain it nicely to the shelter by telling them that his instincts are more of the Australian Cattle Dog and not the Lab Retriever as they thought ( and that he is better off to be an only dog) and it just wasn’t worth the stress of our older dog having his tail completely tucked up to his stomach and not wanting to go outside or be inside when Boomer was inside or outside in the backyard.

Applying for jobs is so depressing! Many many rejections!

SFB Sounds like you guys are being smart about things. Yes, it sounds like that dog, as they say, needs a job. I would be terrible with that sort of dog because I’m not big on trying to train dogs to do anything, but that is what stimulates and exhausts them. Heck, my dog refused to learn to shake.

Tessie, I feel your pain, though I know we are on opposite ends of the spectrum age-wise and academically. But you’ve put so much hard work into your degree…and probably $…that it must be especially frustrating. I’m trying for basic jobs here and can’t even get an interview. Hang in there. My daughter said something about people graduating from the school she is planning on and graduates being employed in their field within a year and that was considered really good. It’s gotta be hard to keep your spirits up though

Tessie, what was your major? It is definitely frustrating applying for jobs post graduation (trust me I have been there :/), but the nice thing is once you land that initial spot there nowhere but up! Keep being positive, and pushing for interviews!

One the topic of puppies, I wholeheartedly agree they are a ton of work! Our family’s dog was AWFUL the first year and a half, but now 10 years later I think she would win dog of the year award haha. I think I would adopt and older dog if I ever personally looked into one.

Applying for jobs can be rough. There’s a job I want to apply for so badly, it’s pretty much what LBJ used to do. It’s a wildlife center and they’re looking for animal care technicians. Unfortunately we only have one functional vehicle right now. So even if I got the job I would have no way of getting to work.

I studied Religion, so it’s pretty general, I could do lots of things with it.

Last night, I saw “The Minions,” with the boyfriend. We loved it and the bf bought me and Koucha bun a Minion blanket One of the doctors that I work for loves Minions (and is near my age so she’s really fun) and childlish things lol!

On Fourth of July, a bunch of bugs bit me! After a week, I have two red bites on the back of my thigh, so I decided to do a virtual doctor visit. It was really cool and I got a steroid med for the inflammation. The areas are getting so much better, but dealing with the unpleasant side effect of being itchy (except where the bites are) is not pleasant  Meh. Stupid bugs!

LoveChaCha- chiggers? I got some when we went fishing. I have to put a piece of tape over them because even fabric touching them drives me batty.

Hubby and I took our 21 year old daughter to the Minions last night and I think my husband enjoyed it the most. It was funny! My daughter loves minions. We each have a minion window cling on our cars

Hazel that sounds so fun. I hope you can arrange things for that job and interview!

So Si got totally sassy and brave over night! So far this morning he has said hello to my dog through the play pen, binkied for the first time, played on his cat tower for the first time, nibbled on my clothes and jumped on my back also both firsts! He is so much more active and is keen to get out and explore! Yay he even let me pet him for a little while.

Hubby and I saw minions too. It was last night (Monday) so there was no one in the theater, we were pretty loud and we felt pretty silly but it was great fun! Cute movie.

Lee Si sounds a lot like Kilala after I brought her home. Has Si tried to bite you yet? Both mine went through that baby phase of tiny bites. Kilala liked to try and bite my toes. Usagi bit me on my finger once and then mainly liked to nibble my clothes. Kilala was a biter for a little bit. I bet it is so cute to see him playing.

LEL Hubby and I were in a theater once all by ourselves it was a lot of fun. It definitely sounds like a good time to me glad you had fun!

It sounds like I need to go and see this movie. My husband has some free movie tickets laying around. I will mention to him that you guys seem to like it perhaps we shall go see it. I am actually surprised he hasn’t wanted to go see any of the other big named movies that have come out recently. He has been bogged down with work though.

CT I know how you feel about trying to keep up with everything. I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

They were completely sold out for Minions yesterday. All times. We went to see Jurassic World (finally) last night and it was almost sold out too. I went to buy tickets at 5:30 for the 9:15 show and there weren’t too many seats left. I chose a pair in the back because most of the remaining seats were not next to another open seat.

Absolutely thrilled that we brought Duncan home; he’s not a kisser, but he nuzzles, chins and –of all things– will take your finger in his teeth and then pull-it/suck on it. It’s adorable and he’s very gentle. It’s also cute when he gets his little nose out of joint because he’s done snuggling. He hasn’t thumped, but he will huff off and sit in a corner, then look back at you over his shoulder before realizing he’s sitting next to food and stuffing his little face. lol

I wanted to see Minions, but will probably end up either waiting until it’s leaving theatres or when it’s on DVD. I’m sure my nephew will make sure I see it at least 20 times once he has a copy of it.

It would be an awesome job, that’s for sure!

I just had to rescue one of the mockingbird juveniles from our vegetable garden. They all love to get in there and eat the bugs, but this one guy keeps getting stuck in there, he can’t quite figure out how to get up and over the fence. Usually I let him work it out on his own, eventually he will make it out. But it was getting dark and I didn’t want him trapped in there over night. So I went out there and opened the fence. That wasn’t good enough. Then I went in there and tried to shoo him out, but he just kept trying to squish himself through the fence. So then I had to go get a shovel and gently move him out. He still managed to get himself stuck underneath the chicken wire that I had laid down on the grass, so I picked that up for him. Poor thing. He’s not the smartest bird in the tree…

It was nice of you to try and help him out Hazel. Young mockingbirds are not generally the brightest crayons.

I just went in to check on Duncan after dinner and discovered that he DESTROYED the NIC barrier that I built around the bed… I mean it was laying in pieces on the floor.. parts of it were only together due to the zip ties still being on. Meanwhile, he had taken some of his hay and brought it under the bed so that he could munch in peace. When I called him he looked at me, quickly finished munching his hay, then came out and did a string of binkies all the way across the room back to his cage! He’s going to be a handful! lol

Hazel – Reminds me of a catbird that had somehow managed to squeeze into the vulture enclosure and then couldn’t figure out how to get back out.

My wrist hurts. Well actually, it hurts in my thumb and down that side of my wrist. It hurts to type and when I try to straighten my fingers out. The weird thing is that it’s my left wrist and I’m right-handed. =\

Lee- fear not . I think everyone has that moment where they feel they have ruined their bond because of one thing or another. Lilith will still sulk for an hour or so after I groom her (she is shedding pretty badly haha), but she usually gets over it. My tip- treats , all bunny get over grudges for treats lol. I am pretty sure he is young correct? What I did when Lilith was between 3-4 months old was get Craisin’s and then chop one into like a fourth and give Lilith a fourth. It was a great way to acclimate her stomach and gave me bonus points!! Good luck, he is absolutely gorgeous haha.

It’s been such a crazy week, I haven’t been able to keep up with the chat! I have a teething baby, so if I’m not at work, I’m snuggling with the cranky little man.

Toby is still doing quite well being a lone bunny…I haven’t heard from my friend who wanted me to adopt her rabbit, which is kind of annoying. She contacted me about it, I agreed to take her, and now she won’t bring her to me. She keeps making plans to drop her off with all her stuff, so I go straight home after work, then she has some reason that she can’t make it.

Anybody else here like to go to conventions? Comic conventions, anime conventions, etc? My husband and I are both huge con nerds (took the baby to his first comic-con when he was 6 weeks old…wore him in a sling the whole time), and we have a couple coming up soon. It’s always so much fun!

Lee, I wouldn’t worry too much. Bunnies are master sulkers but some treats and nose rubs will have you forgiven in no time.

B&D, I go to one anime convention every October. I need to figure out what cosplay I’m going to do this year. They are fun! I wish I could go to more, but the only other two cons I know about are FanX and Comic Con and their sizes are daunting to me.

MissGabbster – SDCC is my DREAM…I’ll make it one day, though the size IS terrifying, lol. We go to Wizard World in New Orleans every year, and we’re headed to Dragon Con in Atlanta this year for the first time. We do small little cons whenever they pop up, and we’re going to MechaCon in New Orleans on Sunday. I just love all the STUFF! hahaha

BunsandDolls I have never been to a convention but they do sound fun. If I was a younger woman I would love to go and dress up in some type of cosplay since I do like anime. I hope you get through the teething situation with you son. My grandson spends a lot of time at my house and I certainly know what that is like. Its definitely not fun. He just turned one last Saturday and have 8 teeth now. 4 on top and four on the bottom. He definitely was a cranky boy with multiplies coming in at once.

MissGabbster I totally agree with you that treats are way to a bun’s heart. Mine love craisins and dried bananas those most.

Lee, little did we know that when we brought Pumpkin home she had rabbit syphilis (there’s more technical term but I don’t remember it). Not only did I have to pick her up and look at her *ahem* private parts daily, I had to take her to the vet once a week for injections for what ended up being about 9 weeks. She HATED me on Wednesdays…I swear to you she knew! And it would take her a whole day to get over it! Everyone is right with the treats though…they do help!

Thanks for making me feel better! Im glad Im not the only one who has to upset their new bunny haha! He is only 9 weeks old…is it still ok to give him a teeny tiny bit of something delicious in these instances? Or best wait until after he is 12 weeks old…..
We are off to the vet for his Calici vaccination this morning, I think I can get him to go into the carrier on his own but obviously he will need to be picked up and held for vaccinations.
LLH – oh no! Poor Pumpkin and poor you!

BaD – I would totally love to do conventions, total nerd but alas we dont have them where I live! We rarely have them in Australia at all. Sounds like fun. Do you guys dress up at all?

Lee – we do usually dress up. We aren’t going to this weekend because it’s a last minute thing, but we’re dressing up all 3 days of Dragon Con. We’re going as Cas and Crowley from Supernatural on one day, Green Arrow and Black Canary on another, and Mulder and Scully from the X-Files on the last day.

LLL – OMG poor you and Pumpkin! That does not sound fun…I agree thought that they KNOW when something’s up. I used to do the tooth inspection on Toby every Sunday, but I’ve had to start mixing it up because he’d go hide in his den, like he knew what day it was!

JR – Luckily that surprise cuddle session has only happened once! I am hoping that it cuts down on his perimeter poops, though. He’s quite good at “building walls” with his little oniony bombs. When someone is sitting in with him he leaves most of them in his box… but left to his own devises he will line the gate with poops!

We haven’t told him yet that he’ll be coming home without the family jewels… Don’t tell him or he might not get in his carrier!

Poor Duncan. At least he’ll come home with a new nickname: Duncan Nonuts.

Buns – that is awesome!

So I finally blocked the gap under the couches so little Si could have some time to explore further. So happy ai did it. It has totally bought him out of his shell! At first he was a little tentative but once he realised nothing bad was going to happen he was so excited and adorable! Doing binky 500s and exploring! Now everytime he sees me he comes hopping out to his outer pen in anticipation of the freedom! He is so brave too, will hop up and sniff the dog through the pen, I havent let them meet without the pen between them yet. One step at a time.

Cottontail- Hah, at least he’s a cuddle bun.  Both of ours while will come to us every once in a while just loves to explore.  Not that I mind either of them exploring in the least. 

I’ve had a rough month, the new pup left its own mark on me.  I had a boil on the underside of my breast well while the puppy was here, it got scratched.  Needless to say it got infected and I went and had it drain.  Well yesterday was the day that the packing strip came out… and took the upper part of the skin with it. So now I have a wound that requires a wet to dry dressing change two to three times a day.  The saline hurts like a dickens but I am soldiering through it. 

On another note, Tanis is a brave and confidant bunny, he loves meeting our dog through the baby gate when both he and laurana are running free.  Also he loves the game of chase and binky as my fiancee found out last night while doing the litter box change.  We let them roam around while the litter box is being scooped and fresh hay being put in, needless to say that we have a bunny who loves to be a ham and make us laugh.

Oh my! I think I am in for it! Si is a total daredevil! I found him climbing multiple different things today, including the front of his travel crate, and into a bookshelf (up higher than himself! he pulled himself up with his front legs!).

BM14-Wow you are both going back to school?! Full or part time? Sounds stressful, but I know you guys can handle it!

My hubby is in charge of a huge softball tourney this weekend, so I’m going to head out there this afternoon. It’s inevitable that some of his umpires won’t show up and he’ll have to cover their games. So I’ll be there to take his phone and check his emails in case anyone needs anything. It’s supposed to be in the 90’s with high humidity so I’ll be the one reminder everyone to drink up!!!! I’m on day 13 of 30 of my No Alcohol vow…it’s going to be hard to not have a few beers!

I need to get in a quick venting session………..

My brother and sister-in-law took their kids to the County Fair and apparently got bunny fever. Long story short they have now brought home 3 bunnies. I’m certain the breeders they got them from did not fill them with valid bunny info and they are probably not fixed.

I’ve been trying to give advice sandwiched in between “oooh how cute” and “I bet the kids are excited.” 

I’m guessing they won’t get them fixed, the bunnies will pee everywhere, chew on everything, and dig everything. Now, I’ve told her this, but I guarantee you that she thinks she knows more than me. I also told her to NOT HOUSE THEM TOGETHER even if they are all boys (not sure if they are) because they will fight and potentially kill each other. I have NO IDEA where they are putting three bunnies in the house that they share with four kids, two cats, and a dog!

They told me they would be keeping them indoors, but I don’t necessarily believe them. The kids (ages 12, 10, and 8) are going to get bored.

I angry, annoyed, and frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then my sister-in-law tells me “I can get as many flemish giants as I want!!!”…….um, wait, why??? Are you going to breed now too? Honestly they are so irresponsible. 

I’m trying slip in as much info as I can to them without offended them. I told them to go the HRS website. Talking to my brother one on one won’t help because the sun rises and sets around his wife (which it should!!!!!!) and won’t believe she is doing anything wrong. Or he’s the type to just let her do it all wrong if it makes her happy. SIGH.

LLH: I’m sorry, what a sad situation. As I was reading your post I was thinking surely you could talk to your brother and he would listen (how could he be so irresponsible when you’re so wonderful with your pets), but I guess he just doesn’t see things the way you do. I guess trying to give advice here and there is all you can do, and you could tell them if they ever get tired of the rabbits you could take them if that’s a possibility.

You said you were planning to get a dog, maybe they would let you take theirs? They obviously don’t care much about it.

Goodness LLH, I can see how you would be frustrated with their way of keeping pets. Hard to offer advice though but maybe you could prepare for the future by looking up shelters and rescues that perhaps can take the bunnies in when the family tires of them. It’s not reasonable or perhaps not even possible that you should take 3 more rabbits and it would perhaps just encourage them to get even more pets.

I’ve been considering looking up rabbit savvy vets in their area to encourage them to get the bunnies fixed. I learned today that at least one of them is a girl. I’m certain they’ll be litter in their near future whether planned or not

Hazel I wish my brother would listen. There’s no way Jared would let me take in three rabbits…sadly looking into shelters is probably a better option. I could see them just setting them loose too….God I hope I’m wrong about that. I am going to make a point of calling my brother next week.

They live about 4.5 hours from me, so I won’t be able to see their set up until I visit in Sept.

Today she sent me a pick of one of the bunnies in a giant plastic tote filled with some kind of bedding/shaving. I asked her to please research as many of these are not good for bunnies’ respiratory issues. She said it’s only temporary until they are settled in. I also pointed out that having bedding will make it hard to litter box train.

We are all very rabbit savvy here on BB…maybe we weren’t when we first decided to get our buns, but we’ve been open to learning and doing better for our furry friends. Even with all of the knowledge I have about rabbits I couldn’t even IMAGINE deciding to bring home three new unaltered buns in the same week! It took months to decide to get Rocky after we got Pumpkin. 

Not to mention vet bills…that’ll be the next topic I sandwich into my texts with her…..

Yeah, finding a no kill shelter is probably the best option. That’s so sad about the two bunnies that died in their care. It seems like they wouldn’t get any more after that. I guess they figure they can always dump them somewhere if things don’t work out. I feel bad for their dog too.

For those who were wondering about Tucker (Manny….), he is doing really well! At his last vet visit (in June), he was actually diagnosed with OCD due to some of the behaviors he exhibits.  None of the herbal/holistic options were helping except the ThunderShirt I got him.  That was helping for stressful situations when he was in them but not in the normal situations where he would flip his lid.  So we started him on Xanax.  My vet discussed it with a bunch of specialists and asked for opinions and options from anyone who had experience treating rabbits.  All agreed Xanax was the best option.  He has been on it for weeks now and he’s doing SOOOOOO much better!  He’s not as jumpy & he actually appears to be enjoying life instead of being constantly on edge.  Last night I even caught him binkying!  And to honest, I can’t remember the last time I saw him binky.  I literally almost cried — I was THAT happy for him.  With that being said, getting a bunny to eat a pill twice a day is a pain in the A!  He will eat the banana and then spit out the pill.  Same thing with everything else I have tried to hide it in.  It is so dose specific that I worry about crushing it up and trying to add it to juice but I may end up needing to.  He’s smarter than I give him credit for!  HEHE.  PS.  Look how adorable he looks in his ThunderShirt!  It may be the cutest thing ever.  Squeaaaaal.

The bonding is a sore subject in our house as they are still not bonded b/c I wanted to get Tuckers anxiety issues worked out first.  I’m actually going to be starting the bonding process AGAIN tomorrow.   And now I have to spend the rest of my night cleaning b/c between work, school, and my blog, and bunnies….my house has turned into a disaster zone.  

I made myself a Home Management and Organization binder for my house and it’s worked WONDERS at helping my house stay clean and organized.  But this week I failed hard b/c my friend in the military visited us for a few days this week and threw my cleaning schedule ALL off.  BOOOOO.  

And WOW, LLH….that sounds absolutely HORRIBLE!

LLH – I am so sorry about your brother and SIL. I understand how frustrating that is, I have similar issues with my family, nothing that bad but when you know a fair bit about looking after a certain animal it is painful to watch your family not looking after their animals correctly.

Derp – I have a box under my work desk that has the cords in it from my laptop and is blocking off access to underneath the couch, so that Si can run around without me worrying. Anyways he just launched himself up to try and get onto the box but it is open so instead he fell into the box with all the cords, had to rescue him and of course he was very unhappy that I picked him up, silly bunbun.

LLH that is so sad and frustrating! I couldn’t imagine how you feel since obviously you are the bunny expert and they should be leaning on your every word when I comes to rabbit care. Unfortunately if they treat all their animals bad and not like part of the family I don’t see it changing for these buns

 My rabbit….so lazy! Just found him flopped out in his litter box, head resting on the edge, munching on some hay! OMG!

Moxie – I signed up for Kickboxing classes last term! Turns out they were Muay Thai, which was hard. I only did it 1.5h a week but it was seriously though. Really fun, but hard. I’m glad I signed up with a friend, or I probably would have dropped it. There’s a lot of work in pairs, and you actually get to kick/
punch the other person. Even with the safe guards I had tons of bruises every week. See if you can do a trial class and if you like it!

A couple of pages ago someone raised the subject of Conventions! I’ve only been to my town’s con, HalCon. I’ve been volunteering with them for 3 years and I’m on the guest team. Last year I actually got to help out with the guest room! It was so much fun and I got to meet Kristian Nairn and Mark Sheppard I wish I had the funds to actually go to more cons and cosplay. I’d love to go to DragonCon, with both the Geek & Sundry and with Sword and Laser crowd I’d have a blast!

Oh, oh!! And someone mentioned X-Files, right? You guys know they’re coming back to TV on January 2016? With the original actors!! I’m so excited

A brief update on the bunny situation at my brother’s. My 10 year niece called last night b/c she got back from the same summer camp I went to all my life. So she was calling to tell me all about camp. Of course the bunnies came up so I used this opportunity to ask HER questions to get a feel for the situation (sneaky? yes. necessary? yes). I learned there is one boy and two girls. They plan to breed two of them one time and apparently keep the babies (where are they going to put them???) and then get the BOY fixed so the other two girls don’t get pregnant. No mention on fixing the girls for their health, so I’ll bring this up to my brother when I talk to him this week.

My niece said something that made me cringe. She said that er bunny, Batman (who is all black with white paws), loves to be petted and brushed. I said “ooh that’s nice. Bunnies need to be brushed when they are shedding so that’s good!” and she said “yeah he just freezes up and doesn’t move when he sees the brush”…..awwwww gosh I’m sure he’s just terrified to death of all these ppl and animals, sigh. I even called and vented to my mom which I hardly ever do anymore. I said “I am not happy with brother’s family” and my mom said “I know Sis…I knew you’d be pissed” and she was actually really supportive which doesn’t always happen with my mom!

On another lovely note…our air conditioner broke yesterday…95 degrees and high humidity. YAY us. We have a window unit in our bedroom for some odd reason so the bunnies had a sleepover w/ us. Hubby’s brother is here but he had to fend for himself! hahaha those bunnies come first you know!

LLH – I think I’d have a sibling that wouldn’t talk to me anymore pretty quick if I were in your shoes. What do they plan on doing with the babies? They can’t possibly know if they’ll have 3 babies or 12! and then they’ll have to spay/neuter them, too! I don’t think they know what they are getting into. I wish you and your family sanity. ( I know you have it now, but by the end of this I feel you may need some extra; good luck!)
My brother in law has what they bought as a “mini pig” a while back, and he’s obviously a very large pot-belly (or some hybrid of it)… and I think they’re in over their heads with it. Whenever he comes up in conversation it’s immediate heart-ache as he doesn’t get the space or attention he deserves, and I do question his diet. They insist on keeping him instead of finding a better-suited home for him, but I hope that eventually they change their minds. He’s not a bad pig, but he needs a yard, more exercise, and so much more than what they can currently provide for him with everything else they’ve got going on, and with their other pets.

I almost feel obligated to make a little one-square cartoon labeled “Duncan Nonuts” now. lol My poor baby doesn’t know what’s awaiting him Tuesday!

In other news… Tilly finally managed to get hold of my coffee! The little stinker did major construction to the litter box this morning, so I had to put my cup down and re-scoop the box or Zoey wouldn’t use it and I’d have a constipated kitty. I get about half way through scooping and evening out the remaining clean litter and what do I hear? “Slurp! Slurp! Gargle! Slurp!” She waited until my back was turned and shoved her face full into my cup! I waited to see what kind of reaction she’d have to it but it appears to just make her nose go into hyper-drive and increase her want of licking and throwing everything in sight. lol She settled down next to the AC unit and then got busy chewing her timothy-carrot to bits!

TL – I love his little vest! But I don’t envy you giving him his meds. We had to give Zoey half her little blue pill twice daily for months… and if she got any of the pill in contact with her tongue she drooled horribly until we rinsed out her mouth. We had to wrap it good and tight in a treat and deposit it at the back of her mouth, hoping she didn’t manage to spit it back out or peel the treat off. Does Tucker have any issue with the pill itself? Other than not wanting to swallow?

CT–I hope it doesn’t come down to that, but I’m afraid at some point I’m going to get so mad that I totally lose it on them. To be completely honest, I haven’t slept well since I got the first text that they would be getting a bunny. I’ve been considering writing an email with my concerns and advice so that way I can make it come across as nice and rational rather than letting myself freak out on the phone and risk a fight. My family relationships in general have been pretty rocky over the years, but my brother and I have always managed to stay close (we’ve been through a lot of trauma together) and I would hate for this to cause a divide between us. But I’m not going to be able to sit back and keep my mouth shut. I’d rather not know what’s going on so that I can sleep at night. How sad is that?

We had pot-bellied pigs growing up! They were out at my dad’s friend’s farm. I looooved them! They were so cute! I have no idea about their care though. My dad’s friend took care of them, we just got to name them and call them “ours.”

LLH – Maybe you could put together a simple typed up Bunny-Basics guide for them in word; just a bit on care, how much room is recommended per bunny, how often to do regular maintenance to their claws/coats, etc… and of course health concerns to look out for (eyes, nose, genitals…) and the benefits of spaying/neutering on health and behaviour. You could present it to your brother as something that helped you out a lot when you got Pumpkin and as a friendly gift to help them out with their new additions. Maybe even bring over a bag of hay as a welcome bunny gift? That way you’re supporting their decision but sneakily showing them what they’re getting into.

As for the pig.. he needs his front hooves done, he needs his tusks trimmed, and he needs A LOT more exercise and water… I just keep praying that they find him a new home. I try not to think about it too much, but every time we talk to them I have to ask about the pig; otherwise it drives me nuts.

Cottontail, no other issue other than not wanting to swallow it! I have figured out (just last night actually) that if I mush up a banana and put it on the edge of a spoon w/ the pill buried in the middle, he seems to gobble it down rather than picking at the slice of banana. So I’m going to keep doing that until it doesnt work anymore…. LOL. Lord knows he’ll figure it out!!!

 I don’t know if anyone is into odd board games/card games, but I recently played Red Dragon Inn with my sister and some friends and absolutely loved it.  I played a wizard character named Zot that had a psychotic/alcoholic rabbit as a familiar… and then I found out that they made that rabbit into his own playable character, so I had to pick it up. Sadly, I now own the expansion for Pooky but I don’t own the core board game yet. Priorities. lol

That really sucks LLH. I know I would be upset too if it were my brother. Unfortunately, this might be one of those things where you’ll need to pick your battles. Perhaps you need to prioritize the things that are absolutely necessary and just let the other stuff go. I know that isn’t what you want to hear, but you will drive yourself crazy and drive a wedge between you and your brother (meaning he won’t be open to suggestions in the future). =\

My oven is sitting in the middle of the living room, along with the cupboards on that wall and their contents. There is no power in the kitchen and the wall separating the kitchen and the living room area is gone. So is the decorative shelving next to the stairs.

LBJ–your kitchen mess sounds like right after we moved in and hubby decided to fix an electrical issue on his own. Stove was in the middle of the kitchen, a big hole was cut in the wall, and we had no power to anything in the kitchen….it was not fun! And you might be right with your advice on my brother.

TL–Another great idea! Actually I will message your site to my sister in law now! I’m also going to send her BB’s Diet and Care info; I love the breakdown list of veggies and whatnot. I’m guessing they have no idea they should feed veggies!

Haha yes, CT Priorites!!! My brother in law bought us Killer Bunnies b/c he thought I would like that it has bunnies….but you literally kill bunnies in it…that’s the purpose of the game. Hmph.

Ok so I sent my sister in law some info on spaying and neutering as well as potential breeding and expressed my concerns about getting all buns fixed. Baby steps I guess.I’ll stop babbling about it but I’ll keep you all posted. Fingers, toes, arms, and legs crossed that something gets through to them!!!

I’m not as diplomatic as you, LLH. When my brother and his then girlfriend got a husky from her mom as a gift and they wanted to breed her (for money) – with no knowledge of breeding, or how to do it properly – I went off on them and made sure they knew if they were putting the dog at risk, I would report them for backyard breeding. They said they wouldn’t breed her. Which is good, because they couldn’t even train the dog, she had a horrible temperament (she latched onto my arm once with her teeth and would NOT let go, I had to pry her jaws open), an insane prey drive and they let her run all the place. She disappeared one day and never came back. I just hope someone took her in and gave her a proper home, she was a gorgeous dog. Though, more likely she broke in to someones chickens or something and got shot, because she would kill any animal she could get near. And they wanted to make her PREGNANT.. I don’t even think she made it to going in heat the first time. What would they have done with puppies…

Wow Stickerbunny that would be hard to. I really just don’t understand people, but I have such a soft spot for animals. These vunerable creatures who are forced to rely on us humans.

I went for a run this morning at 4:30 AM!! I am officially crazy. But I have to be to work by 7 to teach a group and my teaching partner called in sick so I’m on my own. It was already at 89% humidity at 4:30! Crazy!! Everyone have a good week!

Si gave me my first fright today! I opened up his pen so he could have some free run in the house, I walked past and he was sitting on his grass mat just inside his pen, about 1 minute later I walked back out and he was gone, and I couldnt see him, so I had a quick look around, no where obvious, looked over and the back door was open just a tad because my partner had just gone out to do something quickly. So I started looking a little harder, couldnt find him, started to freak out a little, pulled out his tunnel, box etc and couldnt find him in his pen, looked under my desk, in boxes, in the tv cabinet, all over the first floor of ur house, behind and under everything including the couch, not a single sign of him, not even any noise. Really freaked out at this stage, Im in tears, sure he has escaped and gotten outside. Partner is looking out the back, Im looking out the front. Back inside to look some more. Then I finally realised we have CCTV cameras in our loungeroom that would have seen him if he had headed towards the back door, so we pulled up the footage and nothing, you dont see him go anywhere. So I crawl back under the stairs, turn on a flash light and there he is, squished into a tiny corner, right under the bottom step, almost impossible to see. Little turd gave me a massive heart attack!

LLL – I’m late to the party, but OMG I hope everything works out with your brother and those poor bunnies. Hopefully they’ll listen to at least SOME of your advice!

We had such a blast at Mecha Con yesterday! We didn’t dress up or anything, since it was a last minute decision to go, but it was fun just to wander around and admire everyone else’s costumes and do some shopping.
BubblesJo – I am SO excited for the X-Files coming back! Even if it is just for a short run, it’s going to be amazing to have them back for a little while!

In other news, my friend who wanted me to take her rabbit FINALLY got in touch with me this weekend, so we have a new fuzzy butt in the house. While we were waiting for her to drop her off, I was having second (and third and fourth) thoughts about taking her in, but when she brought her in I was SO glad we decided to. The poor girl was filthy and her long hair was so matted up. I spent an hour on the floor with her, trimming her hair to try and get them all out. I finally had to stop because she got annoyed with all the attention and scratched at me. She seems to be doing well with us though. For right now, she has a cage in the corner, but it’s open and surrounded by a barricade, so she doesn’t have to actually stay in the cage…it is just a home base for her right now, with her food bowl and litterbox in it. I’m planning to get a big dog crate to put in the corner and attach her barricade around it to keep her contained, but give her plenty of room. She doesn’t seem to have the same fear of slick floors that Toby has, so it won’t be as easy as putting down a rug, LOL! She is eating fine (as long as my husband puts the food in the cage), and I actually caught her flopped on the floor of the cage this morning, so I think she’s going to come around. I’m going to call the vet and make an appointment for her this week just to get her nails trimmed and get her butt shaved to get the rest of the mats out – I’m scared to trim anymore of them because the ones that are left are too close to her skin.

We are switching Lily over to a different food, AGAIN. They just keep going up on the price, just like they did with her old food. Must be because it’s grain free. You never get jerked around with insane price increases when buying low quality food with a bunch of corn in it. I guess they figure since you care enough to buy a good quality food you’ll be willing to pay whatever. Or you have a pet with allergies and have no choice but to pay what they ask, like us. Luckily we found some decent grain free food at Tractor Supply at a good price. I swear, before long we’ll be buying all our pet supplies there. Wait, actually, now we do! Didn’t realize that until now! Wow.

KitKat is doing very well so far! She sat by me on the floor for a little while last night. I’m sure she’ll be mad at me again tonight because I took her to the vet today, but she’ll feel so much better with her hair and nails trimmed!

I wish we had a Tractor Supply closer to us…everyone is always talking about all the stuff they find there for their pets, but our closest one is quite a drive away.

My cat Puss throws up most cat foods even the expensive brands. Now I feed him Purina Gentle which is suppose to help with that. I started a month ago and am now on my second bag and he has only thrown up once thus far. I am please with it. Yea the expensive better brands seem to always go up in price. I am glad you found something at the Tractor Supply Hazel. They still have the best price on Carefresh here anyway. I noticed they added another brand of rabbit pellets the last time I was in but I didn’t take the time to check it out to see how good it was. When I go the next time I plan to look around a bit more at all the pet products.

This past weekend I bought some new glass storage bowls and the box had a cardboard insert inside that made a small tunnel and the box had some interesting edges on the flaps. I gave the box to the rabbits to play with. They found it to be very interesting. Usagi was chinning everything and Kilala was going around nibbling it here and there. She hopped around the box and then did a little binky. I left them for a second to get them some more water. I heard a bunch of noise coming from their room. I came back and they both scattered. I think they might have been fighting over the box. I stayed with them for awhile. I think they were both trying to claim it as their own. I have brought in a lot of boxes for them but none seemed as interesting as this one. Its definitely getting used by Kilala. She loves to chew on cardboard and I watch her play in and out of it. I am pleased they like it, mainly because it didn’t cost anything extra being I needed new storage bowls!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who just tosses random boxes to the rabbits, lol. I get excited when we buy a new piece of electronics, or something weirdly-shaped that has those recyclable formed-cardboard inserts in them. Toby loves those, hahaha. But I throw lots of boxes on the floor for him. Mac and Cheese for dinner? Here Toby, have a box. Emptied a box of Salitines? Box for Toby!

Sindriona: I’m sorry about your cat’s stomach issues. Some are just really sensitive. I’m glad he’s taking to the new food. We buy Tractor Supply’s store brand cat food, it’s called 4Health (they make dog food, too). Lily gets the grain free canned food and we buy the kibble for Bubbles. It’s good quality and actually cheaper than some of the bad brands with corn. I remember at first we bought Walmart’s ferret food for him, it had corn in it too and was more expensive than the 4Health. I didn’t notice they have Carefresh, we always buy the horse stall pellets. I’ll have to check out their rabbit food, too. I forgot about Oscar’s food in my previous post, we get that from petfooddirect. But I guess now that we won’t order the cat food with it anymore we won’t get free shipping.

OMG I had just finished writing my reply and webpage page was unresponsive. I was saying I remember seeing that clip on SNL. Its funny. I guess they are making fun of those Blue Buffalo commercials. My husband and I would love to feed our pets that but its so expensive. We get the canned stuff from the Tractor Supply from time to time as a treat. Our dogs eat Kibbles and Bits for small breed dogs but I would like to give them something else. I will check out that brand you mentioned. When I had my ferrets I fed them Mazuri I believe was the brand then Zupreem brand ferret food. Ferretuniverse.com has listed a couple of brands with 50% protein that is great! I couldn’t find food with protein that high in it back when I had mine. Ferret food is a lot like rabbit food there are a lot of food that has junk in them that’s not good for them.

I am sorry to hear Oscar likes wallpaper it makes me think of my drywall in the rabbit room….sigh

Sindriona, sometimes BB works better for me with Mozilla Firefox than Chrome or IE. What I also often do is mark (CTRL+A) the post I’ve just written – at least if it’s long and has a lot of info – and copy (CTRL+C) it before hitting submit. That way if the post disappears into cyberspace or the Internet goes down for a sec I can just paste (CTRL+V) it back in. It’s so FRUSTRATING when you lose what you’ve just written!

(That would work with a PC, I think Mac would have other commands)

Hi Pinky, the ThunderShirt gives off a really tight feeling! It is used a lot in cats/dogs. It creates a feeling of what they would have felt in the womb, that is what helps give them comfort. I’ve actually never seen it used for bunnies. I really had just run out of ideas, saw the ThunderShirt & thought “Hm, maybe this will work.” It was really a shot in the dark. It’s $40 so it’s rather expensive in the off chance it doesn’t work but it’s really helped Tucker in situations where he gets stressed out. The one thing you have to realize is that your animal HAS to be conditioned to the shirt. It doesn’t work immediately. You keep putting it on them in stressful situations. It helps teach them that the feeling it admits can help calm them down. It gets to the point where they LOOK for the shirt. I was actually surprised with Tucker. They say dogs will go to the drawer they know it is in — like during a thunder storm b/c they want it on. Tucker, every night before dinner with the others, he bends down & lets me put it on him willingly. Which is much different from the first few battles. He did catch on REALLY quickly. I wanna say it was about a week before he started becoming completely comfortable with the process.

I LOVE Tractor Supply! Haha there is one right down the road. I bought my blueberry bush there of all thing and it’s doing awesome. Also where we get our wood stove pellets for litter.

Speaking of boxes; when we had Boston for us it was toilet paper rolls. She would fling those things all over. Our living room would be covered in them lol!

I’m sure you are all just DYING to know this: Pumpkin is getting her butt shaved tomorrow She’s been having some poopy butt for awhile now and it’s not getting better. We tried a butt bath and tried to comb the clumps out but I could tell we were hurting her. Last night she stuck her frog legs out and I could see it stuck on on the backs of her legs too. I feel like a terrible bunny momma for letting it get this bad. The vet is going to do a check up and then a sanitary shave. I’m nervous for her!!!! Will she freak out? I’ll be bringing Shamrock for moral support of course. At least with a clean bum we can figure out what the issue is. I’m wondering if its the spring mix from the garden? Anyways, think about my baby tomorrow afternoon!

Sind- My Zoey has always had a sensitive stomach (creating ALL sorts of messes and upsets), and after a while her tummy will get upset from normal diet so we’ve done a good bit of experimenting over the years… Currently she’s been on Hills Science Diet (Rx) M/D for weight control and her stomach has never been better! Her anxiety has decreased to the point that she no longer needs her pills, and she’s actually lost a couple pounds after years of trying. Granted that it is pricy, and you need a vets approval for it, it seems to be the answer in our case. They have dry and wet foods with various blends for differing metabolisms and sensitivities… so that may be one thing to look into for your cat. We give her dry in the morning and half a can of wet at night and it really stretches out how long the cans last. Good luck with your kitty!

My Duncan is home from the vet, and he is so pitiful! He’s eating, drinking, pooping, etc… just really playing up the pitiful baby routine and soaking up head rubs. He had to get a flea treatment like the others, but he was a good boy at the vet.

I am happy that I got to hang out with MB today. I even got GUS KISSES AND SNUGGLES! Such a big sweety! MB went with me to pick up Duncan, so she has finally met one of my fur-babies, even if he was somewhat out of it. lol He got some good pity points though.

I am so exhausted, I’m not even going to bother trying to catch up on what I have missed so far. The chat thread is very slow this month. I can’t believe it is already almost August. My babies will be 2 (Moxie) and 4 (Snickers). I could cry, how does time fly by so fast? I don’t want my babies to grow up. *sigh*

I’ve had such a long day. And tomorrow I need to set up a vet appointment for my dog. It’s about the time for her to get her shots. I think I’m going to make it a big to-do and buy her a new collar/leash set and get a new engraved tag for her. I might even have to buy her some treats afterward to make up for it. I’m really tired though so I just need to focus on getting some sleep right now! (It is currently 10:45 at night and I’ve been going since 6:30 this morning!)

Oh and yeah. For those of you who don’t know, I wear glasses. Well I officially broke them (sunday? it’s now tuesday), so I have kinda been slightly blind for the last couple of days (I only really need them for seeing stuff far away, or watching tv from across the room). I can’t get an eye appointment in until thursday, and then I’ll have to wait a week or two for the new glasses to be mailed over.
It’s hard getting used to wearing no glasses when you have for a while. I feel good like my face is getting a break, but I also feel a little bit more self conscious about my appearance. Like am I wearing too much make-up ect? (glasses tend to hide makeup unless it is very heavy) or just other blemishes.

So yeah that’s pretty much all that has happened with me recently.

Aw vibes for Pumpkin! Im sure she will feel much better with a clean bum, it can’t be nice having clumps of dried poop sticking the fur together.

Naw poor little Duncan Nonuts hehe.

For those with cats with sensitive stomachs have you tried feeding grain free foods? Or raw foods? Cats are carnivores and should be on a meat diet, unfortunately loads of dry foods are full of grains, additives, preservatives, corn etc that cats dont really need or process and in many cases are intolerant to.

I was so excited last night for the first time Si came out and sat with me on a towel and let me pat him for ages, he got a little skittish when my partner got up and moved from the couch but once he had gone away, Si came back over to me had a sniff and then laid down and let me pat him again! Yay!

Hey Lee we posted at the same time. I was gone to 2 summer camps. They were fun. We have a cat with a sensitive stomach and we feed her iams. We haven’t had any trouble since.

Aw cool I am glad you had fun Moxie! Even if it means you are exhausted afterwards! Bet all the critters are happy you are home now.

Wasn’t Blue Buffalo being sued for misleading people about the ingredients in the food? I thought I heard something about that. Anyway, we fed it to our dog a long time ago and I wasn’t impressed with it. She eats a mix of Nature’s Variety and Acana now (she’s old and this is the only thing that doesn’t upset her stomach).

Hazel (and Sindriona) – This isn’t a scarfing problem is it? My bridge kitty had serious issues with scarfing his food. Sometimes cats do that because they went without food for awhile so they think they need to eat their food as fast as they can in case it disappears. It sort of becomes a psychological thing. Anyway, my kitty would eat a bunch of food really fast and it would never reach his stomach. Instead it would ball up in his esophagus, so when he got up and walked away he would feel it in his throat and he would throw up. You can usually tell because it will just be a “log” of completely undigested food. Anyway, the vet said to buy the pate canned food and to smash it flat on the plate. If I gave him dry food, I had to put golf balls on top of it to slow him down.

Aww, poor Pumpkin. I’m sure she will do fine and she will feel better having an “airy” butt.

And poor Duncan! I guess he gets to live up to his name now, but you still feel bad. I’m sure he will bounce back though. It’s usually just that first day with boys and then they start getting back to themselves.

Welcome back Moxie! I didn’t know you wore glasses, but that sucks that they were broken. A new pair has to be mailed to you? I’ve never heard of that. Practically everywhere around here has same day service. I wear contacts and haven’t bought a pair of glasses in YEARS though.

Moxie, I had to wait like 12 days for my new glasses when I ordered them in May. Luckily I found my old ones or I’d have been blind as an idiotic bat all that time. I “only” need them for reading, but I really do need them for that. It sucks being without your glasses =( Glad you had a good time at camp =)

I think I may have figured out my favorite product for protecting those little bits of cord that can’t be behind barriers due to outlet location or location on the unit (be it a tv, portable ac, whatever). We picked up anti-lick strips out of desperation a while back when Pete kept tearing off his casts, but never opened them because the vet finally decided that Pete had had enough time in the cast that he didn’t need a 5th one. Well, long story short; Tilly tried to kill the portable AC we have in the bedroom and I had to repair the wire. After repair she started nibbling again so I had to do something; so I put the no-lick bandages on the length of wire coming off the back of the unit that she could reach (and on the rubbery drain plug!) She went to go nibble on it, chewed for a moment, licked her lips, then laid her ears back and huffed down on her vent; I haven’t seen her try it again since and it’s been several weeks! I highly recommend it if you’ve got a repeatedly repaired wire anywhere, or something that is chewed and hard to barricade off. They are a bit expensive, but it’s saved me my $300 unit.

CT those strips sound interesting glad they worked for you. I will have to get me some of those.

As for my cat’s upset stomach he would throw up anything he ate from different cat foods to meat. He wouldn’t throw up everytime but several times a week. I think some of it is gorging like LBJ was wondering. He would do that too but this food has stopped him from throwing up. I am pretty pleased about that. He is 11 years old and has always had this problem otherwise he is really healthy.

Just got finished making the vet appointment for my dog. It’s going to be about $150. o.O Guess she’s going to have to wait a week or two for her new leash and collar set with a special new ID tag… lol

LBJ— I got my last pair of glasses a year or two ago, and I had to wait about 2 weeks for them to be mailed to the eye doctor so that I could pick them up. (I don’t have any special needs glasses, that’s how everybody’s glasses are handled here)

Moxie, what vaccinations does your dog get? I’m just asking out of curiosity =) My dog gets parvo, parainfluenza, hepatitis and distemper + rabies now when we’re planning on going sailing with her. (We are so close to Denmark that we tend to end up there, Sweden is a rabies-free country but Denmark isn’t formally.)

Bam— My dog is going to be getting vaccines for Rabies, Distemper, Parvo, and then she is going to be tested for heart worms (we know she obviously doesn’t have any though) and then she’ll get a heart worm prevention chewable (it’s a monthly thing) and flea treated.

The Tractor Supply seems to be a topic lately but I was going to say I missed out on getting my pets vaccinated and micro chipped for $15. They had that going on at our store on the day of my son and grandson’s birthday and I forgot to take my pets up there to get their shots. Not everyone needed them but I cant believe I forgot to go. That is a million times cheaper than what it usually costs at our vets office. A check up alone is around $100.

Well the vet thinks either Pumpkin is getting too much veg, a veg that’s not agreeing, or potentially a parasite from the garden. He said she has some extra gas and poops built up. He’s going to give me a probiotic, we’ll done on veg and try to see if there is a problem veg, and if that doesn’t work he’s going to give us a dewormer to rule out a parasite. Her teeth are a little pointy so she needs less veg and more hay anyway.

The vet called Rocky a moose lol. He’s got a big belly. Oh and Pumpkin up to 3.8 pounds from 3.3 at her last shot. Yay!

Another problem could be that she eats so fast that she’s stealing Rockys share of veggies. We might do what JR does with Moshi and start hand feeding her veggies.

Sidenote…they were able to get her cleaned up without shaving. Yay!

Maybe I should deworm my buns =/ I give them lots of fresh leaves etc and always try to not get any earth on them or pick anything anywhere near where livestock graze, but you never know. Outdoors bunnies should be dewormed at least once a year they say. Have to ask my vet, thank you for making me think of this. Both my bunnies have had upset tummies lately, first Yohio, then Bam 10 days later.

My garden was doing great for a while, then came the Spanish slugs and end of story for all vegs outside the greenhouse =( I still have mint though, I’m drying lots for the winter-season.

Moxie, good luck with the vaccinations =) I was so afraid my Eph would have a reaction to the rabies shot since they say that’s not too uncommon , but she didn’t. We have heartworm here nowadays, but it’s still rare and not routinely treated. Btw, how are the chicks? Have they been missing you? I think they have.

Hello , I need to ask yall a question. How many times do I feed my Dwarf Bunnys a day, I usally give them; pellets vegtables, and hay in the mornings and imma start feeding them veggies in the afternoon. Is that right? ( PLEASE HELP )

bam I told the vet that I soak all my veggies for about 20 minutes and then rinse them off good but he said it could still be a parasite. He didn’t want to give them meds if they didn’t need them though. We got Bene-bac for Pumpkin’s tummy. She loves it!!! lol she kept trying to lick the syringe. We have the nicest vet techs too! They remembered Pumpkin from all of her shots and were excited to see her and see her weight go up. Vet says she’s still skinny though. You guys should have seen her when she came back from getting cleaned up. She looked pitiful!! Her whole back side made her look like a drowned rat! lol and the tech said she was super pissed; angry face, ears pinned back!! haha poor girl. She’s still avoiding me!

Well, the refrigerator is here. It’s sitting in the middle of the living room. Hopefully there isn’t anything wrong with it. We can’t plug it in for awhile. Boy did the delivery guys look at us weird. =\

Bam— I’m always a worry wart when it comes to anything medical. So I am kinda slightly nervous. My rooster is starting to crow a lot, especially when he hears people’s voices. I’m not sure if it’s him being aggressive or showing off or something. Our cross beak chick always comes for treats nowadays. (because she has problems eating with her beak how it is I hand feed her a lot of treats)

YAY!!! Moxie is back – super happy, jumping up and down whilst clapping my hands excitedly, lol! And LBJ was sorta right, hahaha…. I have been overwhelmed with the new kitchen, or should I say the stuff that we need to supply – who knew it would be so hard to get ‘stuff’ in black??? Your not going to believe this and I don’t blame you, but I have put the installation off for a week on the chance we can get our hands on a reasonably priced black sink that is due in next Monday. Hopefully! And I think we have had to go out every morning, meaning what I normally do in the mornings I’ve been doing in the afternoon’s taking up my precious social time – GASP! Then when I finally get to sit down at night I can’t think let alone type straight. Also waking up at 4am has been a killer – most nights I’m in bed asleep by 9pm – how embarrassing! Lol! I don’t know why I am waking up so early – it’s not me and I have a fridge magnet to prove it! “I don’t do morning’s!”, ha ha ha.
AND I am still having problems getting on BB – I do believe it is MY computer, but why only BB??? Even today I logged in and it wouldn’t let me into anything but after persisting I got into the chat thread and even though I wasn’t ready I didn’t touch anything so I could post later today. I worried that I might not get back in again. I can’t get into my PM’s or profile still either, sad face! I feel guilty that I have been on facebook – I even mentioned today that I felt awful for not being on BB. But (and this is why I don’t understand) I have no net problems with fb, it has been so easy and instant especially when I am up and down all afternoon trying to catch up on my mornings. And I can post a picture within second’s (I’m still the worst at posting picture’s on BB – I remember it took me 3 days and a lot of tears to post my very first picture, hahaha!), but I sorta feel like I am cheating and I ‘hate’ that I can’t keep up with everyone on BB. I hope no one needs to be told this… I miss you all desperately when I can’t got on. The only good thing about not being on for a while??? Before I posted this I got to sit back, relax and enjoy reading pages of what everyone is up too – loved it!
OH!!! And I should add… it’s been really COLD here (remember we QLDR’s don’t cope well with any temp under 20 degree’s, lol!), I may wake up at 4am but it’s been a real struggle to get out of bed let alone get motivated. And going to bed at 9pm??? Warm soft flannelette sheets, aahhhhhh! Lol!

I HAVE to say this before I forget AGAIN….. I was watching one of my American reno TV show’s “Leave it to Bryan” and the episode showed a toilet in the middle of a bare basement – I had to stop and rewind to see if it was LBJ!!! SERIOUS! Ha ha ha ha….. Btw, no, it wasn’t! Ha ha ha! So you can take comfort your NOT the ONLY one….. hahahahahaha!

Sorry Jersey – I know, it is so unlike me to be away for so long, not even I could believe it? I hope this doesn’t sound to strange, but some morning’s while laying in bed trying to get up and face the cold, lol! I think of all these things I want to share, but by the time we get home and I rush to cook lunch and then pack dinner to get the hubby off to work for afternoon/night shift, then do the washing that won’t dry when you hang it out at 1pm *sigh*! and I finally get to sit down for more than 2 minutes – whatever I was thinking that morning is well forgotten, hahaha! Why I made mention about LBJ’s toilet in my last post cause I knew I would forget again, hahaha!

Oh and Moxie I need to glasses to see at a distance (I’m short sighted) but I hate wearing them. I used to have to wear them to watch tv in bed and I hated that I couldn’t fall asleep comfortably with them on so bought a bigger tv for the bedroom, problem solved! Hahaha! BUT!!! I ‘need’ to wear them to drive at night – I often don’t think and jump in the car and get down the road and think ‘why can’t I see???’ lol! So I have 2 pairs – one in the car which I put on down the street (DOH!) and another pair in my bag for when we go to show’s and concerts – if I’m going to forget something on my way out to a show, it will be my glasses! And nothing WORSE than paying a lot of money for a show and I can’t see the dam thing! I still feel that I missed my daughter’s Uni graduation cause I forgot my glasses and she was a blur in the crowd, super SAD face! I’m sure the people sitting around her were wondering who’s that mad lady waving at us??? LOL!

Hey bam, you know how I recorded season 1 of True Detective and am now in the process of recording season 2??? Last Saturday I got the day off (WOW! I know! Lol!) and watched all of season 1 into the night and do you know I didn’t get it till episode 6??? Lol! Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed it, especially the acting – it was brilliant! But I didn’t get it till almost the end. Anyhow, I started watching season 2 when I go to bed each night and I DON’T get it! I ‘think’ I am up to episode 4 (or 5?) and I’m struggling – is that normal? Or am I THAT stupid??? LOL!

SORRY! I know I am boring everyone…. but I saw the previews for Wayward Pines with Matt Dillion (is that his name?) and I thought that looks cool…. I watched it and I have to be honest, if I knew what it was really about no way would I have recorded it. Guess what??? Bloody fantastic!!!

We did try to name Cottontail’s new bunny, but it turned out he didn’t choose any one of the names we suggested. He wanted to be called Duncan =)

I haven’t seen True Detective 2 yet, it will probably air here around Christmas or sth, I need to get HBO to see it. When I watched TD 1, there was just episode per week, so maybe you didn’t “get it” until the end because you watched it all in one sitting. I mean, perhaps it’s a show you need to digest some =)

Bam— I’m not sure exactly how common it is, but it isn’t too uncommon. It’s due to bad genetics, we wouldn’t want her in a breeding pool because her offspring would most likely have cross beak as well. Cross beak is when the top and bottom beak grow away from each other. Here is a picture of a very minor case for you to get the idea. It can become quite graphic.
