So Igloo is growing up nicely! At nine and half weeks, he weighs two pounds! Big boy. As a side note, I was wondering if it’s unusual for Hollands to grow to 5-6 pounds, because at this rate I think he’ll be a rather large bunny.
Any! He has now become comfortable enough to feel like he owns everything and everything is a toy. His currently mentality is “is this for me? No? It’s mine.” Haha! But, as happy as I am to see him exploring and playing, he has started to chew inappropriate things. Mainly, me. It’s not at all malicious, for instance, if I’m laying in the floor and he’s out for playtime, he’ll come up and lick my fingers. And then start nibbling them a little, and then a little harder. He’s never drawn blood, and he’s never bitten out of fear or anger. I’ve only experienced him do it when he’s out and excited. I’ve tried redirecting him with apple orchard chew sticks, and various other wooden chews, paper towel roles, and he has a few plastic cat toy balls (the kind with bells) that he knows he can pick up. I’m wondering if he would prefer something softer to chew on? The problems I see with this are that a soft toy won’t wear down his teeth, the ones I can think of are rubber (unsafe for rabbits?), and it may just encourage him to chew other soft things – like human flesh! Haha, I’m joking.

What do you guys think should be done?

At this age, the biting is just exploring – it’s normal for babies of any kind to explore with their mouth…

A holland lop should not get to 5+ pounds. Though individuals will often not perfectly match the breed standard, they rarely will deviate from it by 25%. Growth when young is very very fast, then it slows down.

The nibbling thing is normal, but you don’t want it to become habitual. I had a habitual nibbler, I got as an adult. He would do it to comfort himself, but it was painful for me.
