  Went out Wed evening to close up my rabbits who have
  access to a grass yard during the day. Have 3 in the same setting but with 1
  fenced from the other two. The two together I found unable to use their back
  legs. Fine this morning. Have a med. to small Chinchilla cross and a flemish Giant. The chinchilla
  seems to be in worse shape / more stress and breathing labored. They ate and
  drink some of what I offered. Both have stools that look normal. ??
  
  Ok, took rabbits to vet.
  Thur morn Nothing in the blood, pee and poo normal. From the waist up they are
  normal and alert, affectionate. Eating and drinking. Vet questioned the
  environment they live, told her how it was and that I searched their area and
  found nothing. Vet doesn’t have a clue why both at the same time are weak and
  unable to stand from the waist back. She gave them a anti-inflammatory shot and
  sent me home with antibiotics. Its been 36 hrs and they are the same as I found
  them Wed eve. If you have any thoughts please
  tell me, your guess is as good as the vets right now.

  Don’t know where you live but have the vet check for botflies. That’s the problem with outdoor rabbits…you cannot know what they get into.

  Could they have got into a scuffle and both injured their backs?
  
  Or even if both startled and took off without good traction under foot could cause injury.

  I have had to deal with botflies before, so after your reply, even though I had checked them over very good and so did the vet, I did not see or feel anything. Didn’t get an xray , vet said the wait to see if there is any improvement, have xray scheduled for this afternoon since there has been no improvement.

  I am wondering if they are recovering from some sort of shock — birds of prey or other predatory animal could have scared them all? (Rabbits and other prey animals can literally be scared to death, but before then they can run around like crazy in a panic – possibly injuring themselves.
  
  Was anything new used on the grass? Any recent fertilizer or pesticide?
  
  There is a type of virus or parasite that is transferred from wild animals (raccoon, possums etc) via urine or feces on the grass. I forgot the name of it and the exact details. But if I remember right it can also cause lethargy, illness and paralyze and/or weakness. I will try to find the name of it, but at night, if an infected animal urinated on the grass your bunnies play in, then that is a possibility. Talk to your vet about that – -he/she should know more about that. It’s not common, but because of that many times it is something that is overlooked.

  back from the vets and xray shows nothing, vet says she has never seen anything like it when you consider there are 2 identical

  no ticks, no fert or pesticides used in or even near their area. none used anywhere else for months. vet has a call into a rabbit specialist, have no idea where, but she says this is definitely one for the books.
  
  someone out there has had to have this happen before, surely, Vet said she figures if she has spoken to the specialist and they can’t help she expects I will have to decide what to do.

  vet called and said she spoke with the specialist and said a lot that I cant remember with all the technical names but something to do with a stressor such as heat could trigger a condition born with to cause these symptoms and has oral med for me to pick up tomorrow. Let you know more tomorrow.

  there they are, getting ready for bed. Hope tomorrows meds leads to some improvement, I just don’t want them to die. Expecially the Flemish Giant, Percy, I visited him every day from birth until he come home with me at 5 weeks. He is very special to me, so special that he is named after my maternal grandfather. But I don’t want him to suffer either. Do you think they would suffer if I were to try and keep them if they don’t improve, as long as they didn’t get any worse.

  Many people have rabbits disabled like this (for what reason they’ve become this way) and they lead a happy life.

  Update on my rabbits. My third started showing upper respiratory gasping. So she went to vet, now she is now on antibiotics.
  First 2 of 3 ended up being treated for both E. Cuninli and Raccoon Roundworm, both infections show the same signs and both antibiotics for upper respiratory.
  As of this morning. The Flemish Giant, Percy is nearly back to normal, having use of all his legs. He hasn’t gotten the upper respiratory so had stopped the antibiotics, and have separated him. so now all 3 are separated.
  So the other 2, the 1 with the leg issues and upper respiratory has improved with her back legs and is hopping pretty good. But the respiratory doesn’t seem to be improving os easily. Have cleaned disinfected where I could.
  Its all a process to go thru that is changing everyday.
  Just hope everything continues to improve.
