I brought home a bonded pair (Luke and Leia) for my girl, Pom. The pair started fighting as soon as they gathered up the courage to leave their carrier. I was devastated and stayed up all night separating them and then putting them back together. I couldn’t keep them separated because as soon as they calmed down from their fight, they would frantically start looking for each other for comfort.
After that first night, they seemed fine. Then every now and then they would start fighting. Pom was definitely stressing them out. It was more Leia wanting to be aggressive towards Pom and, being unable to, attacking Luke. Pom is free run and the pair are in a large hutch. So I barricaded the room so Pom couldn’t be near their hutch and then started switching their litter boxes about twice a week.
Luke and Leia immediately stopped fighting once Pom wasn’t near them. Now, Luke and Pom are in love. Leia and Luke are still bonded, but Leia still bullies Pom a bit, but mostly tolerates her. Pom is still free run and Luke and Leia are in their hutch while I’m at work and at night, but otherwise the three are quite content to hop around together.
While Luke and Leia fought a bit, they were never un-bonded. As I mentioned, they were very stressed when separated even though they’d just been Tasmanian devilling around their hutch. Separation was the best thing until they were all used to each other.
Since Cinna and Rizzo has such a quick/easy bond, they’re probably pretty solid. Just be sure to separate temporarily (a few minutes) and remove the new bun if they start fighting then watch them closely.
Notes on my bonding:
I wasn’t intending to bond Pom to Luke and Leia until after she was desexed, but Pom was so desperate for their attention I let them interact.
Luke and Leia still live in their hutch because A. They like it, but mostly B. They’re chewing monsters and I would literally have holes in my walls if I let them be free run.
