My rabbit has had a head tilt for a while now. She is on medication for an ear infection. Until today she has been eating and taking her medicine really well. Today she has not really eaten and is fighting taking her medication. I lifted her head to check her eye that I on the bottom and it is looking very infected now. I got her an appointment in the morning, however I am very nervous and just don’t know when a right time to put her down. Has this happened to anyone else? When do you know it is time? She has also had blood work that has came back all normal. The next thing would be to do an MRI. She is an 8 1/2 year old lop.

Sometimes it is really hard to know. If she has been eating and drinking up until now, I would try to get some vet treatment to correct the problem. Head tilts can be tricky and can often get worse before they get better. Most importantly, talk to your vet about this. Together, you can decide what is best. (((vibes)))

I’m going to move this to Q and A.

How did the vet visit go?

What meds is she on? Did the vet do an ear culture? Head tilt can also be caused by E. Cuniculi and the tilt can be reversible depending on how soon treatment starts. Bunnies can live with head tilt and still have a good quality of life but it depends on how bad it is.

Unfortunately I had to put snuggles down yesterday. Sorry I didn’t respond. I had a very hard time. I did the E. Cuniculi testing and it came back normal. No the did not do an ear swab. I am not at home to see the medications, but they put her on an antibiotic, antiinflammatory, and motion sickness medication. All three twice a day. When we went in she had very little GI sounds. With everything going on we all together made the decision that she has had a very good life, and was suffering. Thank you everyone for your responses.
