So, haven’t been around the forums for a while, so busy with uni, preparing for a baby, bonding these damn rabbits and everything else that could possible get in the way of aimlessly browsing the internet! ![]()
But, with six weeks until the babies due date, getting out little cyclopse bun, Link out of the living room and into the girls room became a priority.
So, yesterday, I decided to do an all nighter in the bun room.
I had spent the past couple of months building up to bonding sessions in there anyway, so it wasn’t just the girls’ territory any more, it had Link’s smells in there, too.
So, around lunch time yesterday, I headed in, prepared myself with a little TV, a WiiU for Netflix and/or gaming and settled in for a long stretch. A stretch that turned out to be a very successful 26 and a half hours.
I’m exhausted, my back is killing me, but, it seems like Link is finally a rabbit again.
To start with, Link had himself a nice big flop. (After flicking his pee everywhere…)

I noticed that when the girls lie down, he started lying nearby, and always so they were on his left. (He sits with you on his right (blind side) when he’s annoyed with you or not interested
)

As it got later, Link was still enjoying bun company. Although he was clearly getting bored and wanted his living room back, but he already seems to be getting used to it!

He’s happily tolerating Daisy in what is/was his own cage. Didn’t budge as she shuffled around for hay.
Happily sitting side-by-side with Navi, too!!

They seem to be finding little spots they like for relaxing already, too!!

Have scavenged a video baby monitor for now, though. I was going mad in their room, 26 hours was enough. But now they’re getting on, I still want to keep an eye on them!

Picture quality isn’t amazing, but it’s enough so when combined with the mic, I have enough of a warning if there are any grumpy moments!

So, all in all, a very uneventful bond…
Yes, it took a year, but FINALLY, we got there.
If y’all remember, it took a year because of the E. Cuniculi flair up that cost Link his eye. So, this time, I’ve been taking it VERY slowly, moving only at Link’s pace and moving forward only when I felt he was ready…
There are still the odd nip, but he’s tolerating them being close and even seeking them out when it comes to relaxing. He won’t actually touch them, but the fact that he’s clearly wanting to be nearer to them is definitely a great sign!
Also, ignore the mess of the bun room, I basically filled the place with as much hay as I could muster so there was always something to much. The longer Link’s mouth was full, the less likely he was nip!
Congrats! I know you have had lots of issues with finally getting all the buns together. I am happy to see the pictures of them all living together. Also early congrats on the baby. I forgot about that. You definitely do have a lot going on.Best of luck!
This is GREAT news! So glad Link finally sees how nice it can be to have girlfriends! Best news I’ve heard in awhile!
So, congrats to you and Ouissie on the bunny bonding and on the upcoming arrival of the baby! Make some time for us RetroSquid — we want pics of the trio and the non-fur baby!!!!
So, left unsupervised, Link has still had a couple of little hissy-fits, but for the most part, everything is going great.
We’ve been in to check on them countless times, even though I have the baby monitor right in front of me, and twice now, we’ve caught Navi grooming Link and Daisy looking a little left out.
Almost as though Navi has her favourite back now, so isn’t so interested in Daisy
But it’s utterly fantastic that Link is letting Navi groom him! I thought we were going to take weeks of being together before he would let that happen!!!
And yes, JackRabbit, we most definitely will try to keep y’all upto date!!
So, not only has Navi given Link licks only a few hours after being left alone (Still watching on the baby monitor, though).
When I popped in to give them their breakfast today, Link actually approached Navi. this is most definitely a first and shows that he might actually think he’s a rabbit again! ![]()

Bun room is going to remain a bit of a mess until the weekend, then will start tidying it up again! ![]()
What an adorable little trio! Congrats! Very clever with the baby monitor. ![]()
So, yesterday, I noticed Link has a little bite on his ear. It’s nothing serious, but looks like it would’ve stung a bit and already looks like it’s on its way to healing. so it’s maybe a day old.
Link previously was always a horrible little so and so to the girls, but with his sudden behaviour change and being submissive to Navi, it seems like somebody has stood up to him, which has in turn showed him he’s not the boss in there.
Link was always #2 when it was him and Zelda, then again when it was him and Navi. He just isn’t suited to being the dominant bun, not with Navi around, and it looks like somebody has finally told him that.
Watching them on the monitor, now, and they’re all in the one cage, munching hay.
Feels great to have finally convinced him he’s a damn rabbit again!!! ![]()
Just a quick time-lapse clip of them demolishing pre-dinner!

Wow, that’s great. Marathon bonding. Maybe you can start a new trend!
It’s been so much work over the past year, building up to that marathon moment…
Lots of stress and frustration.
Some of which lead to Link losing his eye after what the vet believes was a stress induced flair up of E. Cuniculi.

Lots of trial and error with the girls, too.

Definitely started making progress last summer.

After that, is when I set about getting Link involved with the girls.
It was weeks of just 10-15 minutes in neutral space, upping the time and the available space when it seemed they were becoming more and more comfortable with each other.

Eventually, after a few months of all that, I managed to get Link into the girls room, but that last hurrah, I just had to take a TV and blanket and I was adamant I wasn’t leaving until I was satisfied they could be left alone…
It wasn’t stressful, but it was a dull 26+ hours…
I do feel like I’ve achieved something and almost like I could bond any buns, now, haha…
My patience definitely paid off!
Retrosquid, you just said the wrong thing! As soon as the vet gives the ok with Moshi, my three are coming to your house for bonding! Please return them as a happy trio!
Ha, I doubt you would cope with me taking your buns off you for a year while I plod through a very slow, but apparently very successful bonding technique!
Also don’t think they would cope with the air travel! ![]()
Yeah, you’re probably right. Guess you’ll just have to come over here . …! If you hurry, you might be able to do straight marathon bonding and get back before the baby arrives!
